The Golden Eagles will look to build upon their opening win and thereby stay in contention to qualify for the semi-finals....
Dempo Sports Club will face United Sikkim in their second match of the Group D in the Federation Cup on Friday in the MDS Complex at Manjeri.
Fresh from a 2-1 win against Bhawanipore, Arthur Papas's men will be going out all guns blazing in search of a win, especially before a virtual quarter-final match against Mohammedan Sporting.
There is some good news for Dempo fans as Haroon Amiri and Tolgay Ozbey will be ready to take field on Friday in what will be their debut for the Goan side.
Dempo conceded first before coming back to score twice in the second half and win three points against the Kolkata outfit.
“I thought they scored a very good goal but we were too open defensively so then we thought if we give Beto a little bit more support and just have one holding midfielder, we could get into the game,” said Papas on his decision to bring on Alwyn George who came and changed the tide of the match.
On the other hand, the Snow Lions had to return empty-handed against Mohammedan in their first match and anything less than a win in this clash will be enough to mark their official exit from the tournament.
Once again, S. Adelaja, the Nigerian forward of the team will bear the primary responsibility of scoring, while the likes of Surkumar Singh and Sukhwinder Singh will be adding depth to the squad.
United Sikkim could count themselves unlucky in their last game where they hit the post and created a couple of decent opportunities which weren’t converted. If they amended their lapses from their previous tie, there is a good chance they would give Dempo a tough fight.
Lukram James Singh, another experienced campaigner was left on the bench in the last match and it remains to be seen whether he will be employed from the scratch by the United Sikkim management.
