6 January 2013
• Stadio Communale Friuli, Udine
Referee: A. Giannoccaro
• Attendance: 17000
A. Di Natale 63', 79'
L. Muriel 75'
While the first half was a forgettable affair, the second half was great entertainment. Inter held the upper hand after the break but they really paid the ultimate price for not taking their chances. Inter have not lost four in a row on the road while Udinese extend their unbeaten home run. Thanks for joining me today and until next time, arrivederci.
And that is game over. The referee blows the whistle. A great win for Udinese as goals from Di Natale and Muriel give the hosts a 3-0 win over a disappointing Inter who were reduced to ten men.
90' + 1'
Another yellow card for diving. This time it goes to Maicosuel and it has to be said, that was slightly unjust from the referee.
For Udinese it is just matter of seeing out these final minutes here. Inter to their credit are not completely lying down and win a corner in the final minute of normal play.
Antonio Di Natale
And to a rapturous applause Di Natale is brought off and replaced by Ranegie. The captain has been fantastic today, leading by example with his brace.
What drama we have seen in this second half. Inter started the better but Udinese have really won away with this one.
With the introduction of Silverstre, Strama is going for damage control here. He knows the points are lost but he certainly does not want to concede a fourth as his substitution shows.
And they just cannot score today. Palacio is sent through one-on-one but the Argentine does not even get a shot off as he takes his time and allows Udinese to recover and steal the ball from him.
GoalAntonio Di Natale
AND THAT IS THREE. Udinese go three to the good and it is Di Natale again. Another assist from Lazzari and Di Natale scores his 12th goal of the season and that is Game, Set, Match, as I like to say.
And indeed Rocchi is brought on to make his debut and in the most trying of circumstances too, it must be said. Can the 34-year-old help get his side back into the game. We have 14 minutes to find out.
ANOTHER GOAL FOR UDINESE. The hosts double their lead after a nice pass from Basta sends Muriel through and the Brazilian makes it 2-0. Strama looking rather forlorn at the moment.
A little strange Stramaccioni's decision to bring on Alfred Duncan for Walter Gargano. The Ghanaian is just 19-years-old with little experience. Not sure if he can bring his side back into the game.
What was that Guarin? The Columbian has time to look up and play a pass but goes for a wayward lofted pass that goes straight into the hands of Brkic.
Di Natale almost with a second there. Inter commit another error in defence and Di Natale nearly gets to the ball before Handanovic who does superbly to keep his side in the tie.
Credit has to go to Andrea Lazzari for the goal. His pass to play in his captain was top draw. It really is an uphill battle here now for Inter. Down a goal and down a man though there is still a little over 20 minutes to play. They have time.
RED CARD TO INTER. The match has been turned on its head here. One minute Inter go a goal down, the next they go down to ten men as Juan Jesus receives a second yellow card and off he goes.
That goal is certainly against the run of play. Inter had been dominating but they did not take their chances and have paid the price for it. How many times does it happen like this!
GoalAntonio Di Natale
GOAL TO UDINESE. And just like that, the Zebrette go ahead through Di Natale....who else? A lovely first-time shot there and he beats his former teammate in goal to put his side ahead.
And Palacio again. The Argentine seemed to have lost his footing as his tests Brkic yet again.
Cassano's free-kick causes havoc in the box but Brkic does well again. The Serbian is fast becoming Udinese's best player this afternoon and that says a lot.
Palacio is making a real menace of himself. This time he blocks a long ball from Domizzi and almost latches on to the loose ball before Brkic again comes to the rescue. It is a nervy spell here for the hosts.
Great save by Brkic. Palacio sends in strong effort but the Serbian is equal to it as Inter win the corner. Strama's men are really going for it now.
Inter definitely on top here though an error at the back almost sends Di Natale through clean on goal but Handanovic is alert to the danger and comes out of his box swiftly.
Inter have started the better of the two sides here as Pereira takes the corner kick that Udinese clear to safety with ease.
SO SO CLOSE FOR INTER. Some great work from Cassano as he stole into the box and the ball falls to Jonathan who from yards out cannot hit the target. An absolute howler really.
That is a harsh yellow card. Allan barely saw the ball before it hit his arm. Free-kick to Inter.
After Lazio's win last night, Inter really do need to collect all three points here if they are to keep the title hopes alive. Perhaps they will call on new signing Tommaso Rocchi if they continue to struggle to break the deadlock here.
And the second half begins...
Not the best half of football that is for sure, however, the game has had its entertaining spells and both teams did go for it before the break. Inter can consider themselves lucky after Di Natale hit the woodwork while they will grieve the ref's decision to book Palacio when it could have well been a penalty and a red card to Domizzi.
And that is half-time as the referee blows the whistle.
Inter enjoy a decent spell of possession in the Udinese half but fail to conjure up a chance on goal as the hosts break forward through Pasquale on the counter attack.
Good spell he from Udinese. Di Natale gets in a shot that results in a corner before Pasquale breaks forward and tries a rather ambitious effort from long range.
Di Natale goes for a curling shot but his effort fails to hit the target.
Yellow CardJuan Jesus
A mazing run by Muriel before the Colombian is brought down by Juan Jesus who is given a yellow card. Free-kick to Udinese with Di Natale looking to go one better with this one.
More questions from visitors. First it is Zanetti who surges in from the right to cause panic at the back before Cassano's pass is too close to Brkic.
This time Inter get forward with Cassano. The ball falls to Guarin who tries to pick out Palacio in the box but his cross is too deep.
Another corner after Pereya breaks forward. Di Natale plays it short and Handanovic punches clear as Basta sends in a cross.
Guarin lines up a shot but the wall does its job.
That's a foul. Free kick for Inter outside the box.
Well, the game has sprung into life here all of a sudden as Inter survive a real scare. Game on.
OFF THE WOODWORK. Di Natale with a cracking free-kick that smashes off the cross bar.
Yellow CardRodrigo Palacio
No, Palacio receives a yellow card after he is adjudged to have dived. A big call from the ref as there seemed to be contact between Domizzi and Palacio.
Is that a penalty? Palacio goes down in the box and Inter plead for a red card.
The match certainly is not capturing the imagination. No goals, few chances and neither team at their best.
Pasquale links up with Basta on the right flank but his low cross is easily dealt with by the visitors.
The Nerazzurri are starting to ask questions here. This time its Palacio who is played into the box but Brkic does well to sweep up the ball.
A storming run from Palacio before Guarin breaks into the box but Udinese defend well and clear for a corner.
Inter still have yet to create a chance on goal with a quarter of an hour played.
The first real chance of the day falls to Udinese. Muriel is played in behind the Inter defence and he tests Handanovic with a decent effort from just inside the box.
Inter are undefeated in their first match of the New Year for the last 14 years.
Some nice interchanges there as Udinese launch a counter attack but a hand ball from Di Natale brings it to a halt. Free kick to Inter.
Yellow CardÁ. Pereira
Not even a minute after a stern talk from the ref, Pereira commits another foul and goes into the book. First yellow of the day.
Not a good sign. Seven minutes in and Di Natale is already needing some medical attention.
First corner of the match goes to the hosts and Di Natale runs over to take it.
Inter have settled into the match now and enjoy a brief spell of possession in their opponent's half.
Inter go forward with Cassano but his lofted pass is too much for Palacio.
Udinese down the right and a cross comes in from Muriel but it does not find anyone in the box.
Inter have no less than seven players injured for this encounter while Ranocchia is suspended and the Sneijder saga continues.
And we are under way here.
Stat attack: While Udinese have struggled in the Serie A this season, they are undefeated in their last home matches in the league.
Stat attack: While Inter won their first six away games of the season, including their 3-1 triumph of Juventus, they have now lost their last three on the trot.
Inter: 1 Handanovic; 25 Samuel, 19 Cambiasso, 40 Juan Jesus; 42 Jonathan, 4 Zanetti, 21 Gargano, 14 Guarin, 31 Pereira; 99 Cassano, 8 Palacio.
Today's lineups starting with the home side. Udinese: 1 Brkic; 75 Heurtaux, 5 Danilo, 11 Domizzi; 8 Basta, 37 Pereyra, 3 Allan, 21 Lazzari, 26 Pasquale; 24 Muriel, 10 Di Natale.
