That's all from today, folks. In the end, Roberto Martinez got his tactics spot on, while Brad Friedel's costly error may be just the excuse AVB will need to begin the transitional process towards handing Hugo Lloris the Number One shirt. Three points for Wigan today, until next time!
This is only Wigan's second ever Premier League win at White Hart Lane and it was fully deserved. It has turned into a nightmare week for Andre Villas-Boas as he has had to endure his side's demise against Norwich in the Capital One Cup and now a home defeat to Wigan in the league.
The Boos absolutely ring out at the Lane as Wigan complete a sensational 1-0 win away to the side that currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League.
90' + 5'
Game, set and match! Wigan will leave London with three points in the bag tonight!
90' + 4'
Spurs not offering much and Wigan prepared to capitalise on it. That's the story of injury time folks - and the match as a whole.
90' + 2'
Wigan attack once more and Gomez is stopped only by a last-ditch tackle from the Spurs back line.
90' + 1'
In fact, there will be Five.
Injury time now - and there will be more than a minute, that's for sure.
Kone whips a cross across the box for Wigan but it isn't met. Why is it that the visitings - who have the lead - seem more willing to attack than Spurs in the 90th minute?
And Bale breaks free once more, only to be denied yet again by the on-song Al Habsi. These two are acting out a two-man play at the minute.
Spurs break down the left but Bale's delivery is uncharacteristically weak and is dealt with easily by the Latics back line.
Caulker now denied by Al Habsi. Spurs continue to press but are not showing anywhere near enough cutting edge...
Another cross played in from the right for Spurs but Al Habsi comes out and collects, taking a hit while doing it to earn himself a free kick in the process.
CHANCE! Smashing drive from Figueroa towards the top right corner of the goal. Just over but a few inches lower and that would have broken the net.
Wigan free-kick deep into the Spurs half. Can they grab a second? Surely not...
More appeals for handball from the Spurs fans but the referee is having none of it, while Kone is seeing a lot of joy while breaking down the right hand side.
Did Villas-Boas miss an opportunity in taking the on-form Defoe off instead of pairing him up with Adebayor? Adebayor wins a free kick for Tottenham down the left side after being felled by Figueroa.
Beausejour goes off for treatment after coming off worse in a group collision. Meanwhile, Carroll has replaced Walker for the home side.
You can't fault Spurs' deliveries into the box today. Cross after cross has been whipped in from left, right and centre. But there is no one - not even the big Adebayor - getting on the end of them for the hosts.
Mooted appeals for a Wigan handball in the box, but it signals Spurs' desperation at the moment as it was not a strong appeal by any stretch.
A calm few minutes as Spurs fail to create anything of note. Wigan are now comfortable with sitting back and defending. What a win it would be for the Latics if they could hold on to this scoreline.
Franco Di Santo
Spurs now definitely knocking on the door. Martinez looks to respond with a change as Franco Di Santo comes off and Jordi Gomez is introduced.
CHANCE! As McCarthy heads off the line. Kyle Walker had got himself onto the end of an in-swinging corner and his far-post header was cleared off the line!
Vertonghen smashes a ferocious curling cross across the box from the left flank and Spurs get a corner from the result.
Since the goal, the atmosphere and energy has really lifted. But will it be enough to see AVB's side get themselves back into contention for the points?
Ball whipped in well but defended and now a battle for possession ensues and ends in Al Habsi punching away a Bale drive from distance.
And into the wall from Walker... but a corner now.
Dangerous free kick for Spurs - a foul was committed on the edge of the area. No less than three players surround the ball...
The home fans attempt to Spur Tottenham on (pardon the pun). Free kick to Spurs now
Watson's strike was his first in a year in the Premier League. It is all that separates the two sides at the minute.
Gallas down after a clash with Kone.
Far from the 9-1 of three years ago, Wigan don't look in any danger today. If the Latics hold on, it will be only their second win at White Hart Lane.
The boos ring around White Hart Lane as Adebayor comes on for Defoe. The Tottenham faithful are right to question such a cautious move when Spurs are losing to a side placed 15th in the league.
Brad Friedel makes a huge error from Shaun Maloney's corner and an unmarked Ben Watson capitalises on acres of space to give the visitors a shock lead!
And Wigan SCORE!!
Corner kick to Wigan, who are slowly edging forward as they did in the first period against the hosts.
It is very much a case of Wigan's back three isolating Spurs' front one as Defoe has hardly had a sniff today - in stark contrast to his 11 goals in 10 games against Wigan prior to today.
Admirable defending from Wigan once again as Sigurdsson is forced into conceding a goal kick when a corner looked a certainty.
It has been a flat performance from the home side today, who are arguably missing their key man in Moussa Dembele. Credit to Wigan where it is due though, they have restricted the hosts very effectively so far.
Home fans chanting for Adebayor. Will AVB introduce the Togolese forward?
Yellow CardMaynor Figueroa
Spurs pushing forward. Bale plays in Dempsey and the American turns to fire a low shot towards the left. Al Habsi equal to it on this occasion.
Yellow CardClint Dempsey
Back underway here at the Lane and there have been no substitutions at half-time.
At the break, both sides have four shots each. Will AVB ring the changes or inspire a second half akin to that against Chelsea when Spurs grabbed two quick goals from the off?
At half-time, Spurs and Wigan are yet to break the deadlock and Roberto Martinez will no doubt be the happier of the two managers.
Half-time at the break and its goal-less.
Still no breakthrough here and it is Wigan who are doing the attacking
And Wigan threaten again at the near-post. Friedel looks on sound enough form to prevent an upset all by himself though.
A long shot fired into the stands sums up the home fans' frustrations so far. Spurs looked on course just a week ago against Southampton. But a disjointed performance so far coupled with their mid-week defeat to Norwich certainly makes for nervy watching for Tottenham fans...
The home fans are audibly disgruntled here. Maynor Figueroa is lucky to escape a caution after crunching through the back of Jermain Defoe.
Friedel saves Spurs again! Wigan are definitely in the ascendancy now and are carving the hosts open. Maloney drifts between two defenders and is found by Kone but the American rushes out and closes the angles well and saves the Scot's effort.
Wigan build up a decent attack, initially on the right wing before the ball is swung out to Figueroa on the opposite flank. The Honduran finds Kone but the Wigan No.2 is crowded out and Spurs clear.
Di Santo gets clattered by Huddlestone and is down on the floor, with Spurs putting the ball out so the striker, who was called up to Argentina's squad this week, can receive treatment.
Great chance for Wigan! Kone picks the ball up 35 yards out and surges towards goal, playing a one-two with Maloney that frees him up on the edge of the box, but his left-footed effort is straight at Friedel and the keeper parries away with ease.
Friedel's weak kick almost puts his side into trouble, but with Wigan looking to get in on goal, Caulker steps up and intercepts Maloney's pass.
A recurring thigh injury is seemingly what has forced Sandro off. Potentially worrying news for Spurs fans.
Wigan attack down the right but Maloney's delivery is poor and Spurs look to break down the right, but McCarthy tackles Walker well and the ball runs out. Spurs are being forced into an early change, with Gylfi Sigurdsson replacing Sandro, who has picked up a knock.
Bale floats a corner in that Watson heads to the edge of the area. Vertonghen is lurking and hits a great right-footed volley on the turn. Al Habsi stands strong, though, and catches the ball comfortably.
The atmosphere is incredibly flat at White Hart Lane, neither side are doing much to lift it, it has to be said.
Another long ball attempted by Huddlestone and he finds Bale but the Welshman was too quick off the mark, and is flagged offside.
Spurs are enjoying the large majority of possession, but Wigan's back three are proving difficult to penetrate.
Kyle Walker gets forward for the first time but is attempted cross is deflected behind and Huddlestone's corner is too long.
Quiet start so far but Dempsey looks the most likely to make something happen, he hits an effort from the edge of the area but it skips behind with the American's pleas for a corner falling on deaf ears.
A backpass into Friedel almost has the American under pressure with Kone sprinting towards him but the keeper just gets there first and clears away.
Spurs have started comfortably, but a lacking a touch in midfield, Huddlestone launches a ball out towards bale on the left but it is overhit and goes out of play.
Early chance for Spurs as Clint Dempsey pounces on Ben Watson's loose pass and bursts down the right before crossing to Defoe, but the striker's effort is deflected away for a corner.
Tottenham get the game going, kicking from left to right.
Friedel forced into a save once again and Wigan proving they aren't here just to make up the numbers!
Friedel forced into his first save of the day from a fierce Kone shot. Good link up play from the Wigan attack but Friedel showed just why he is keeping the France number one of the Spurs side at the minute.
Meanwhile, Wigan, who lie 15th, are still without Antolin Alcaraz and Albert Crusat, while Ryo Miyaichi is still short of fitness. The Latics line up today consists of: Al Habsi, Caldwell, Boyce, Ramis, Figueroa, McCarthy, Watson, Maloney, Beausejour, Kone, Di Santo. Subs bench: Pollitt, Stam, Lopez, Jones, Gomez, McManaman, Boselli
Villas-Boas has picked a stellar side today, although he is still without the talismanic Scott Parker and Moussa Dembele. Tottenham team: Friedel, Vertonghen, Gallas, Caulker, Walker. Huddlestone, Sandro, Lennon, Bale, Dempsey. Defoe. Subs: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Sigurdsson, Falque, Carroll, Adebayor.
Spurs won 9-1 in the same fixture three years ago and Jermain Defoe scored five. By those odds, there might be the odd goal here today.
Spurs have moved up to fourth after nine games with 17 points. Can Andre Villas-Boas continue the North London side's momentum so far with a win against Roberto Martinez's men today? Or will there be a surprise on the cards...
