• White Hart Lane, London
Referee: N. Swarbrick
• Attendance: 36005
So Tottenham join Chelsea and Liverpool on six points at the top of the table after two weeks of the Premier League season. Swansea still without a point. I've been Tom Maston, and thanks for joining me.
The penalty incident will be looked at again and again, though with the spot kick that wasn't given in the first half it was no more than Andre Villas Boas' men deserved. For Swansea, it's two defeats from two admittedly difficult opening fixtures.
And there it is. Neil Swarbrick blows the final whistle and Spurs hold out for their second 1-0 win in as many weeks. It was again a Roberto Soldado penalty that sealed the points for the North London outfit.
90' + 3'
Spurs now have everyone in their own half defending this narrow lead. Rangel absolutley livid with the referee as a free-kick is given to the hosts. One minute to go.
90' + 1'
Spurs almost wrap it up as Paulinho breaks through but can't chip Vorm before flashing the rebound over. Swansea throwing everyone forward in search of an equaliser.
Tottenham in possession and keeping the ball in the corner. For a side as good as their's that's a bit defensive but three points are three points at the end of the day. Four minutes added time to come.
Townsend, whose fall in the box will dominate the headlines, is the man withdrawn for Sandro. Two minutes left of normal time.
Sandro being readied to help the Spurs defensive effort as Swansea keep pushing but with no end product. Time running out for Laudrup's men.
Swansea still looking for that killer ball over the top but with Shelvey now off the field they are struggling to find it. Need to try get Hernandez on the ball as much as possible as he has been their brightest spark in the second half.
Swansea looking the more likely in the last ten minutes, but can't quite find that clear sight of goal. Spurs looking to hit on the counter now.
de Guzman looks for Bony at the back post but the striker can't control his header and the ball trickles out for a goal kick.
Before that is taken, though, there is a standing ovation for goalscorer Soldado as he is replaced by Defoe.
Free-kick to Swansea on the left as Walker brings down Hernandez. Chance for Swansea to throw some men forward.
Townsend and Walker again combine down the right and it's only a good tackle from Hernandez that denies the right-back a chance of getting in another cross. The English pair have been excellent this afternoon.
Yellow Card Roberto Soldado
First Spurs booking as Soldado brings down Pozuelo after some lovely trickery in midfield. Free-kick comes to nothing despite Bony's presence.
Brilliance from Hernandez gets him past Walker, and the Spaniard gets a sight of goal as he continues his run. His shot is blocked, but ricochets back off him and almost over Lloris' head. Goalkeeper does well to catch.
Yellow Card Ashley Williams
Some great hold-up play by Soldado eventually draws a foul from Williams, with the defender picking up Swansea's fourth booking of the afternoon.
That man Bony wins a free-kick, and after it is taken short, Hernandez swings over a cross to Chico at the back post. The defender unleashes a ferocious volley that Lloris does well to tip over the bar.
Swansea have certainly been much better since the goal, and the introduction of Bony should give them some more bite up front.
Better from Swansea as Shelvey and Hernandez combine before the latter tries to bend one around Lloris but sees his effort go just wide. That was Shelvey's last action as record signing Bony replaces the midfielder.
Townsend's original free-kick is blocked by the wall, and in trying to redeem himself he slices a shot high and wide of Vorm's goal. Into the final quarter in North London.
Williams penalised as Vertonghen somehow ends up on the right wing and is brought down by the Swansea skipper. Chance for Spurs to get bodies into the box.
Superb break from Townsend, who has been a real threat for Spurs this afternoon. Good challenge from Chico stops him in his path. Sigurdsson now on in place of Dembele.
You can't say Spurs haven't deserved that goal, but the decision to award the penalty was a poor one from referee Swarbrick. Former Swansea man Sigurdsson being readied on the Spurs bench.
Change for Swansea on the back of conceding that goal as Pozuelo replaces Routledge. Bony still waits on the bench.
Penalty Goal Roberto Soldado
GOAL!!! For the second week running, Soldado has made no mistake from 12 yards. Placing the ball to Vorm's left, the goalkeeper went the wrong way. Spurs should have had a penalty in the first half, but probably shouldn't have had one in the second. Nevertheless, Spurs 1-0 up.
PENALTY! Shelvey on Townsend again, and this time Swarbrick points to the spot. Great break from the winger but it looks like the contact was minimal. Soldado to step up...
Swansea playing some nice stuff as de Guzman looks for Hernandez breaking through. Vertonghen gets back though and clears the danger.
Swansea bring it forward through Hernandez before finding Michu advancing on goal. The striker looks set to fire in on goal when Dawson comes across and makes an excellent tackle. Opportunity missed for Laudrup's side.
SO CLOSE! He scored a superb goal in Europe on Thursday, and Townsend almost had another one there as he cut onto his left foot and let fly from distance. Vorm was struggling and the ball flew just over the top, thankfully for the Dutch goalkeeper.
Quieter opening to the second half compared to the pace of the opening 45 minutes. Rose tries to get Soldado in over the top but the ball skips away from him and into Vorm's waiting arms. Swansea holding firm.
Vertonghen gets into a bit of a mess at the heart of Tottenham's defence, but Swansea can't find the killer pass to make him pay. Let off for the big Belgian.
Walker is again giving Davies a torrid time as he gets in behind the left-back yet again. Williams is there though to clear his low cross.
Swansea get us back underway here with the game remaining goalless.
Players making their way back out onto the pitch in North London. All eyes on referee Neil Swarbrick after his poor decision just before the break.
Not long now until we are back underway at White Hart Lane. The deadlock is yet to be broken but Tottenham couldn't have done much more to take the lead. Lloris has made a couple of good saves at the other end, but Spurs will be happy with the way they went about their business in the first period.
So, after that first half, you would be a brave man to bet against Tottenham eventually finding the back of the net. Michel Vorm has been inspired in the Swansea goal and will need to keep up his great form if Swansea are to come away with anything. I'll be back for the second half in ten minutes time.
Walker's low free-kick is easily cleared and Swansea see out the sole minute of stoppage time with relative ease. Spurs well on top and should have had a penalty. Swansea look dangerous but have been second-best for much of the opening 45 minutes.
Appeals for a penalty as Townsend is brought down by Shelvey. The foul is clearly inside the box but the referee only awards a free-kick on the edge of the are. Contentious one.
Townsend cuts inside from the right and has options in the area. He only has eyes for goal, though, and fires a weak effort straight at Vorm.
Villas-Boas' side still on top though Swansea holding firm in the middle of the park. Can they find the breakthrough before half-time?
Yellow Card Michu
Michu gives away a free-kick halfway into the Swansea half and is booked for his troubles. Big striker looking very frustrated so far this afternoon.
At the other end de Guzman breaks from midfield and shoots from around 25 yards. A slight deflection takes it wide, though the referee signals for a goal kick, much to Swansea's frustration.
Walker is proving a real threat down the right as yet another cross is palmed away by Vorm. The ball eventually falls for Chadli on the left, and his centre is volleyed into the ground by Paulinho and just over the bar. Spurs doing everything but score.
GREAT SAVE! Vorm again to the rescue as Walker again gets to the byline before finding Dembele at the back post. The midfielder aims for the top corner but the goalkeeper tips his curling effort over the bar. Dawson heads over from the resulting corner.
Finally a minute to breath as Spurs play the ball around in midfield. Been a frantic first-half.
Great skill by Paulinho gets him past Shelvey before he fires in another shot from distance which rolls harmlessly wide. Brazilian midfielder showing great promise.
Yellow Card Michel Vorm
A pass sells Shelvey short and the midfielder trips Soldado, though he may have got some of the ball. Vorm booked for dissent towards the referee as Spurs get another chance to create something.
Townsend whips in the free-kick and Capoue beats Davies in the air. His header is only a flick-on though and it bounces wide of Vorm's right-hand post.
Routledge is freed down the right but he loses his footing and Spurs can clear his weak cross looking for Michu. Big Spaniard not really been involved as yet.
Spurs switch off from a throw-in and Shelvey can cut in from the left. His low effort is deflected and Lloris tips it behind. The resulting corner is cleared but Tottenham have to be careful despite their dominance.
Walker just fails to lay in Townsend down the right. Closer viewing of that Paulinho effort shows Williams blocked the effort on the line before Vorm grasped at the ball.
All Tottenham as Rose gets in down the left-hand side and fires in a low cross. A deflection sends into the waiting arms of Vorm though and the danger is gone, for now.
OFF THE POST! Ashley Williams gets away with one as he heads Walker's driven cross against his own goal frame. The ball then falls for Paulinho, but Vorm somehow hangs onto his rasping drive. Spurs the better side here.
Shelvey looking to play diagonal balls at every opportunity for Laudrup's side, and he pings another delightful pass towards Routledge on the left. The former Spurs man is, alas, offside. Still goalless.
Yellow Card Ben Davies
Sloppy defending from Rangel gives it away to Townsend on the edge of the area. He is then brought down by Davies, who is booked, and Spurs have a chance from a dead ball.
Three Tottenham men standing over it, but it's Chadli who strikes it. Not a bad effort from the Belgium international but he can't get enough dip and Vorm is untroubled.
Paulinho and Capoue already forming a dynamic partnership in midfield. The former this time is at the centre of things as he wins a free-kick inside the centre circle.
Swansea aren't here just to defend. Rangel tries to get in behind after ball over the top but Lloris is out quickly to collect the ball.
Shots starting to rain in now Capoue again wins the ball in midfield before marauding forward and shooting from fully 40 yards. Vorm right behind the low effort.
GREAT SAVE! Some neat interplay from Swansea gets in Michu in behind, and though Walker gets back, Hernandez forces Lloris into a good parried stop from just outside the area.
Paulinho looking bright in the opening stages, and after Capoue wins the ball in midfield, the Brazilian gets in a low shot which doesn't have enough power to really trouble Vorm in the Swansea goal.
Our first sighting of Paulinho sees him winning the ball and driving forward. Swansea get back in numbers though and extinguish the danger.
As is Swansea's way , they are looking to keep the ball in the middle of the pitch. Plenty of pressing from Tottenham early on as they look to disrupt their visitors.
A pair of early corners for Tottenham who look to gain some initiative from the off. Easily cleared by the Welsh outfit though.
After a slight delay waiting for the referee, we are underway.
We are all set here for kick-off. Tottenham will be kicking-off in their traditional white shirts and dark shorts. Swansea in blue and yellow.
Great reception for the two sides as they enter the arena at White Hart Lane. The obligatory handshakes pass by without incident, and we are just moments from getting underway.
The teams are in the tunnel in London as Tottenham look to make it two wins on the bounce to start the campaign. Swansea on the other hand aiming to pick up their first points of the new season.
Of course there is no Gareth Bale for the hosts today as his protracted move to Real Madrid moves ever closer. Spurs were efficent if not at their best against Crystal Palace last week, and how they perform today could be an indication as to how they will cope without the Welsh wizard. Just under ten minutes till kick-off now.
Both these sides are returning to domestic matters after European exploits in midweek, and after both found the net no less than five times, both attacks are certainly on form. Defenders will certainly have to be on their toes from minute one at White Hart Lane.
After their 4-1 defeat to Manchester United, Michael Laudrup recalls Jonathan de Guzman and Pablo Hernandez in place of Leon Britton and Nathan Dyer. Wilfried Bony must again sit on the bench despite his strike last week.
Andre Villas-Boas hands a first Premier League start to Etienne Capoue while Andros Townsend comes in on the right wing. Gylfi Sigurdsson and Aaron Lennon are those replaced.
Swansea: Vorm, Rangel, Chico, Williams, Davies, Routledge, Shelvey, de Guzman, Hernandez, Michu, Canas.Subs: Tremmel, Amat, Britton, Pozuelo, Richards, Bony, Lamah.
Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose, Capoue, Paulinho, Dembele, Townsend, Chadli, Soldado.Subs: Friedel, Kaboul, Naughton, Sigurdsson, Carroll, Sandro, Defoe.
The teams are in, with both sides making two changes from their last domestic outings. Those line-ups in full are as follows...
