Powerless to stop Umtiti's powerful strike that flew into the top corner, but was otherwise assured and dealt with most danger.
Combined well with Lennon down the right flank, overloading Lyon with sheer speed. Hit the by-line and played a superb cross which should have been converted by Bale. A constant source of joy for the home side.
Fortunate not to have conceded a penalty for a clumsy tackle on Gomis, but grew into the match. Frequently bailed out Assou-Ekotto and matched the pace of Gomis well.
The French centre-back gave a solid performance, bringing experience and calmness to the defence. Marshalled the backline well and made several important headed clearances.
Got forward well in patches but not at all assured defensively, with much of Lyon's threat coming down the right. Struggled to track Laczette and couldn't contain the overlapping runs of Reveillere.
Brought a bit more forward emphasis to the Tottenham midfield, dribbling forward and threading passes. Played a delightful ball behind the Lyon defence for Adebayor. Often outnumbered in midfield though.
It didn't look like his day initially, struggling to find space and missing an open goal. But the Welshman's class shone through with two stunning, dipping free-kicks. Yet again, it was 'the Gareth Bale' show at White Hart Lane.
Was Tottenham's principle threat in the first half, bursting down the right flank with frightening pace. Won his side a number of dangerous free-kicks and corners, but was occasionally let down by his final ball. Subbed with ten minutes remaining.
The veteran midfielder gave a characteristic performance brimming with tenacity and work rate. His shirt was the muddiest on the pitch, having launched into tackles and thrown his body in the way of shots.
Struggled to make an impact on the match, especially when fielded on the left flank in the early stages of the match. Was let down by poor close control and was largely anonymous. Unsurprisingly, he was subbed after an hour.
Lacked energy and tempo and was flagged offside far too often. Snatched at a good chance in the first half and should have at least hit the target. Regularly let down by his first touch.
Perhaps could have done better for both of Bale's free-kicks, but many better keepers would have been deceived by the venomous dip. Punched balls he could have caught, which occasionally put his side under pressure.
Was a towering presence at the back for Lyon, rising highest to clear the ball on numerous occasions. Powerful, strong and dominant in the air, he also contained the lacklustre Adebayor with ease.
Gave a very solid, competent performance. Rarely, if ever, beaten down the line and dealt with the threats of both Dempsey and Bale with relative comfort. Very intelligent defensive display and used the ball well going forward too.
Struggled to contain the pace of Tottenham's right flank, with Lennon and Walker routinely speeding past, and picked up a yellow card after just 20 minutes. But, on a rare foray forward, struck an incredible, thunderbolt of a shot into the top corner that two keepers wouldn't have stopped.
Often looked troubled by the pace of Adebayor, but anticipated the danger well to snuff out any problems before they occurred. Formed a solid wall with Lovren that was rarely breached.
Showed all of his 33-years, appearing lethargic and off the pace in midfield. Struggled to match the intensity of Tottenham, or his midfield team-mates, but was a calm presence on the ball. Replaced by Grenier.
An industrious and adventurous performance. Matched steel with craft, pressing and harassing Tottenham while posing a threat to Friedel's goal. Used the ball intelligently and granted Parker and Dembele little time on the ball.
The Lyon captain led by example, tackling hard in midfield and closing down with verve. Powerful and robust off the ball, always offering a release for his team-mates.
Worked hard up front, running the channels and putting a lot of pressure on Gallas and Vertonghen. Was unlucky not to win his side a penalty after being felled inside the box. Received little supply to feed off.
Regularly got the better of Assou-Ekotto, tricking his way past the Tottenham full-back and accelerating towards goal. His final product was very hit/miss, and perhaps he could have exploited the space behind Spurs' Cameroonian left-back more often.
