The tenacious Mediterranean Knights forced the Sparrow Hawks to settle for a 1-1 draw on Sunday in the 2014 World Cup qualifying played in Lome, with both goals scored early on

Togo were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Libya in 2014 World Cup qualifying played at the Kegue Stadium in Lome on Sunday.

Lille striker Kalen Damessi opened the scoring for Togo five minutes from time but the lead was levelled five minutes later by Ahmed Zoway of Tunisian club CA Bizertin.

Deprived of the services of their captain Emmanuel Adebayor and goalkeeper Kossi Agassa, both of whom pulled out of the squad after denouncing disorganisation within the set up, the Sparrow Hawks could not live up to expectation before their home fans, as they exhibited poor coordination and lack of rage to overcome their visitors.

Libya looked much like the host team, as they were in control almost throughout the session, forcing the Hawks to be on the defensive.

The west Africans, however, got the upper hand in the last quarter of the game, but their sloppy passes and poor finishing hindered them from sealing a win.

With one point from their away fixture, Libya are now second in the group behind Cameroon, who defeated DR Congo 1-0 on Saturday.
