Whitehead tries to atone for his error in the goal, but shoots straight at Mignolet. The ball is cleared, but only as far as Charlie Adam. He tries to lob the goalkeeper from distance, but he gets it all wrong.
  • 71'
As it stands, Sunderland jump above Norwich and their rivals Newcastle into 15th. This could prove to be an absolutely vital point if they hold on. In fact, they could even get all three.

This game has really opened up following that equaliser. Sunderland are playing like they have 11 men, never mind 10. They are showing great courage.

  • Stoke on the other hand will be elated with that first half showing. It has been a typical away performance from Tony Pulis' men. An early goal and astute defence display so far.

  • 1'
We're underway at the Stadium of Light.
  • The players are out on the pitch, and kick-off is moments away.
  • It is not all bad news for Tony Pulis' men. They are currently on the longest winning run of any team in the Premier League. Their back-to-back wins against QPR and Norwich see them on a run of two consecutive wins.
  • Stoke have drawn a blank in front of goal in their previous four matches at the Stadium of Light, and they have only hit the target with 38% of their shots this season - the worst record of any club this campaign.
  • Sunderland have not won in 17 Monday night Premier League matches, a run that stretches back to April 2002.
  • A few stats coming up for you.
  • Tony Pulis makes two changes from the side that beat Norwich. Dean Whitehead and Marc Wilson start ahead of Glenn Whelan and Andy Wilkinson.
  • Paolo Di Canio makes two changes from the side that were beaten 6-1 last Monday night. Jack Colback starts ahead of Phil Bardsley at right-back, whilst James McClean comes in for the suspended Stephane Sessegnon.
  • Big game this one tonight. If Sunderland win, they could move as high as 11th in the league. If Stoke win, they could all but secure Premier League safety. A draw would leave the Black Cats still in trouble.
