Sporting Goa - Salgaocar FC Preview: Who will emerge victorious in this bottom of the table clash?

Sporting Goa - Salgaocar FC Preview: Who will emerge victorious in this bottom of the table clash?

David Booth and Co. will be looking to continue their winning form against the Flaming Oranje in this awaited Goan derby at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa..

Sporting Clube de Goa

Samananda, Matthew, Lourenco, Borges;
Freiman, Kalu, Shirodkar, Peixote;
Victorino, Sugishita
Salgaocar FC

Nicolau, Augustin, Sobrosa, Rahul;
Francis, Wilkinson, Rocus, Gilbert;
Josimar, Milagres

With just one win from their last 5 games, Oscar Bruzon and his side would like to return to winning ways and what better time to do it than in the Goan derby. His side managed to grab a point against Pune FC away from home after being reduced to ten men.

The Flaming Oranje will be relying on their Nigerian midfielder Ogba Kalu Nnanna to produce one of his best performances, who also happens to be their leading goal scorer with 7 to his name.

On the other hand, Salgaocar come into this fixture with a win in their bags against Mohun Bagan. However, the Men in Green have had a few problems this season in front of goalmouth. They have scored just 15 goals in the 16 games they have played, thier top scorers being Milagres Gonsalves and Augustin Fernandes with 3 goals each.

Both clubs will be looking to steer clear of the relegation zone and will go all guns blazing in what looks to be yet another great Goan derby.

Sporting Clube de Goa: Rovan Pereira and Jovel Martins will miss the game due to suspensions for the home side. However, Samanada Singh and Rowllin Borges are set to come back into the side.

Salgaocar FC: Luciano Sobrosa, the Brazilian defender, who was suffering from a hamstring injury could return after having started training and would be a likely replacement for defender Fulganco Cardoza who will miss out on this tie due to a suspension. Gabriel Obatola will start from the bench should Booth prefer solidity in his defence by including Sobrosa.

  • This is their first encounter in the I-League this season between these two sides; the last match was played on Feb 12, 2012 where Salgaocar beat the Flaming Oranje 2-1
  • Both clubs have the same figures in the competition (W-3, D-5, L-8); only difference being Salgaocar's higher goal difference
