An instrumental performance from Cajetan Fernandes helped the host to a convincing win over the I-League minnows...
Oscar Bruzon made only one change from the side that beat Mohun Bagan by bringing in Deepak Devrani in place of Joyner Lourenco while Santosh Kashyap fielded Pratik Chowdhury and Sandesh Gadkari in place of Edmar Figueira and Nagen Tamang.
The Flaming Oranje started well in attack early on as a Jovel Martins cross from the left had found Boima Karpeh who was in a great position to head home the opener but the striker sent his effort wide from the edge of the six-yard area.
Following that opportunity, the Rangdajied goalkeeper Surjay Kumar Pariyar made a double save to deny another header by Karpeh and Ogba Kalu's follow-up shot with Martins creating the chance once more.
Rangdajied United's defense finally crumbled when Cajetan Fernandes' corner from the left was headed down by Rowllin Borges, into the path of Kalu who nudged it past Suriyar in the 13th minute to put the hosts 1-0 up.
In the 19th minute, David Ngaite caught the Sporting keeper by suprise as Ravi Kumar initially anticipated a cross and then dived just in time to keep the ball from entering his goal. At the other end of the pitch, Cajetan's powerful right-footed shot could only find the side netting 10 minutes later.
Deepak Devrani rose high from an unmarked position to head the ball into the far corner off another corner-kick taken by Cajetan Fernandes from the left to double his side's advantage in the 31st minute.
Karpeh saw a couple of half-chances come his way before half-time but couldn't take advantage and the sides went into the break with Sporting leading 2-0.
The second half initially lacked goal-mouth action at either end and an opportunity only came around in the 66th minute when Kalu sent his header wide. Moments later however, Cajetan got his third assist of the match when he released Karpeh. The Liberian born Australian cut past onrushing Pariyar before slotting the ball home to make it 3-0 in the 71st minute.
Victorino Fernandes wasted a golden opportunity in the 82nd minute after being played through by Devrani. The Sporting substitute attempted to square the ball to Karpeh and though Thomas Saikhom's clearance almost rolled into his own net, Pariyar was on hand to keep it out and did well to parry Victorino's shot on the rebound.
With this victory, Sporting now have 10 points from five matches to move into the top four as Rangdajied United have rooted themselves to the foot of the table with only two points to show from six outings so far.
