A late goal by John Coutinho denied Oscar Bruzon's side full points, which leaves the Goans at sixth place depending on Salgaocar's result on Sunday...

Sporting Clube de Goa have collected 35 points from all their matches of the current I-League campaign after drawing 2-2 with Mumbai FC at the Tilak Maidan, on Saturday.

With this result, Khalid Jamil's side will have to be content with an eighth place finish, on 32 points.

Yusif Yakubu converted a penalty to put Mumbai FC ahead in the 36th minute, while Dawson Fernandes (53') and Victorino Fernandes (75') scored for the home side; but John Coutinho equalised (90+2') late in injury time to earn his side another away point.

Sporting were without two regular starters - defenders Joyner Lourenco and Samananda Singh who were ruled out due to injuries - and Dawson Fernandes paired with Juanfri in attack.

Mumbai FC missed the services of Abhishek Yadav due to suspension, with Evans Quao playing second fiddle to Ghanian countryman Yusif Yakubu.

The visitors failed to capitalise on the empty patches in the Sporting half in the initial minutes of the match-up, while Juanfri was almost sent clear against the approaching Mumbai FC keeper K. Sharath in the sixth minute after being released by Joseph Pereira.

Six minutes later Justin Stephen brushed off John Coutinho's free-kick, but wasn't able to get enough power behind the header.

Both the sides were losing the ball a bit too easily in midfield in the following minutes before Ogba Kalu created an opening for Dawson in the 23rd minute, but the latter sent his left-footer wide of the left near post.

S.S.C.B. referee A. Rowan pointed to the spot after Kalu was deemed to have brought down Rohit Mirza inside the Sporting box in the 35th minute. Yusif Yakubu stepped up to convert the resultant penalty in the next minute.

Sporting's Stephene Barreto slipped into the opponent's penalty area a few seconds after play resumed, but rival defender Stephen effected a vital interception, while on the other side, Peter Costa missed a sitter as he rocketed a goalmouth cross from John Coutinho into the stands.

Good vision by Joseph Clement released Dawson Fernandes into space and the Sporting striker calmly placed the ball past Sharath to bring his side on level terms in the 53rd minute.

S. Kuttymani scored a goal in vein for Mumbai FC as his team-mate Yakubu was pulled for a foul in the Sporting box off a set-piece in the 70th minute.

Four minutes later, Sporting substitute Victorino Fernandes crossed from the right to set up Dawson around six yards from the goal, but the latter still managed to miss the target, shooting above the bar.

The very next minute, Dawson played Victorino through, and the latter charged ahead before beating goalkeeper Sharath in his goal.

Mumbai FC were unlucky not to equalise in the 82nd minute, when midfielder Jayesh Rane's long range effort came off the post, but ten minutes later, John Coutinho made sure of the same when he latched on to a long ball before slotting it past Sporting keeper Bruno Coutinho.
