Oscar Bruzon's troops sneaked a narrow win at home to Dempo in what was a drab affair with neither side creating many chances

Sporting Clube de Goa beat Dempo SC 1-0 in a round 13 I-League encounter on Saturday afternoon at the Duler stadium in Mapusa, Goa. A Boima Karpeh penalty in the 49th minute was the difference between the two sides.

Both line-ups included just one change each. Mauricio Afonso, who took charge of Dempo as head coach Arthur Papas is in Australia, fielded Jewel Raja as Peter Carvalho dropped to the bench while Oscar Bruzon brought in Rojen Singh in place of Rowllin Borges for the hosts.

The first goal scoring opportunity of the match fell to Dempo's Holicharan Narzary who headed wide in the 10th minute.

The opening period lacked intent from both sides to find the back of the net until Gonzalo Neila headed in a free-kick by Arturo Garcia. However, the Sporting defender was ruled off-side by the referee's assistant before Rojen Singh shot wide.

Beto came close to breaking the deadlock through a 39th minute free-kick but saw his shot fly wide of the left post while Alwyn George and Narzary tested the Sporting goalkeeper Ravi Kumar on a few occasions. However, an uneventful first-half deservedly ended 0-0.

Three minutes after the restart, Debabrata Roy handled the ball inside the area which prompted the referee Rahul D'Sa to award Sporting Goa a penalty. Boima Karpeh stepped up and made it 1-0 to the home side.

Two minutes later, the away side threatened to restore parity. Ravi Kumar in the Sporting goal couldn't hold on to Beto's shot from 30 yards out but did well to recover in time to get rid of it before Dempo substitute Jeje Lalpekhua could arrive.

Pratesh Shirodkar sent in a good cross in the 66th minute but Karpeh's first touch let him down when he was in a good position to double his tally and put his side 2-0 up. The game failed to produce more chances and ultimately ended 1-0 to the hosts.
