The Reds of the North-east ended their two match losing streak as they shared the spoils with the Purple Brigade from Kolkata...Shillong Lajong held United Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in a round five encounter of the I-League 2013-14 that took place at the the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Meghalaya, on Saturday evening. Eric Brown had given the away side a lead three minutes into the second half. However the lead lasted just for a couple of minutes as Cornell Glen won a point for his team.
Thangboi Singto made two changes to his side as C. Lallawmzuala and Subhash Singh replaced Milan Singh and Seikhohao Tuboi in the first eleven, while there was only one change for the away side with M.D.Rafique replacing Souvik Chakraborty.
The match began at a high tempo with Lajong making the initial inroads but United SC gradually settled down and began to press their opponents.
Boithang Haokip was the first to miss a chance for the home side as he saw his free-kick sail over the bar in the fourth minute. The midfielder was again in the thick of action minutes later when his inch perfect cross from the left was headed wide by Seikhohao Tuboi from inside the box.
United SC too had their set of chances when Dhanachandra Singh's powerful volley was blocked by the Lajong defence.
Ranti Martins and Eric Brown combined well and breached the Lajong defence on many occasions but couldn't convert their opportunities, the closest of which was when the Nigerian striker dodged two defenders and passed it to Brown, whose left footer missed the target by a whisker in the 35th minute.
Crossing over, Brown scored off a through pass from Dhanachandra from the center as he outpaced a defender and placed the ball home in the 48th minute.
Just two minutes later, Tuboi's long throw was misread in the air by United SC defender Rasaq as Glen overjumped all others in the box to head in the equaliser.
The visitors threw their men all out in attack in the final minutes of the game. However the scoreline remained the same until the end.
The point keeps Lajong FC on the eighth spot, while Eelco Schattorie's outfit are third at least momentarily with eight points in their kitty.
