Both sides had a man sent off and eventually settled for a share of the spoils in an eventful 1-1 draw.

Shillong Lajong drew 1-1 at home to Mohun Bagan in a round 9 I-League encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday evening. A penalty from Cornell Glen and a strike from Zakeer Mundampara earned a point for each side.

Mohun Bagan started brightly but the Shillong kept pace with them in the opening exchanges. In the 17th minute, Yusa Katsumi went on one of his trademark runs from midfield and put in a dangerous cross for Sabeeth but Vinay Singh was on hand to clear the danger.

The Shillong keeper was called into action again 10 minutes later as a 30-yard free-kick from Katsumi demanded a diving save to turn it around for a corner. Just as Bagan were on the up, they were dragged back down in the 36th minute as they were reduced to ten men.

Uilliams made his way into the box but was brought down by Echezona Anyichie who was given his marching orders for a second bookable offense while the hosts were granted a penalty. Cornell Glen stepped up and placed his effort low to the keeper's right to give his side a 1-0 lead.

However, their lead didn't last long as Bagan struck back two minutes later. Manish Bhargav's cross found Sabeeth who played it into Zakeer Mundampara whose shot from 30 yards out caught the keeper off guard and leveled the tie.

In first half stoppage-time, a tussle between Glen and Jibon Singh resulted with the latter receiving a straight red while the former was only booked. Hence, the two teams went in at half-time with one goal and one sending-of each.

Ten minutes after the restart, Glen unleashed a long-range effort that had Shilton Paul diving to his right but ultimately missed the target. In the 65th minute, Uilliams struck the wall from a free-kick but Milan Singh fired the rebound at goal dangerously but his effort went just wide.

A few minutes later, Sabeeth latched onto a pass just outside the box but with Vinay rushing off his line, his shot clipped the keeper, taking it over the crossbar.

In the 73rd minute, Milan Singh played in Taisuke Matsugane on the edge of the box. The second half substitute dribbled past a couple of defenders and his shot forced the keeper into a brilliant save.

Towards the end of the game, the momentum was clearly with the home side and with ten minutes to go, Shilton Paul needed to make a great save to keep the scores level as denied Subash Singh's header from just 6 yards out.

Both sides failed to create more opportunities and had to settle for a draw at the final whistle. Shillong extend their unbeaten run to 5 games and move into 6th place in the table while Mohun Bagan remain in 9th after back-to-back draws.
