  • So, Schalke strengthen their Champions League push with that 2-1 victory and are now seven points off Dortmund. It's going to be a tight race to the finish line. Thanks for joining me on this Goal.com live commentary. Make sure to check out the match report, player ratings and reaction. Until next time, goodbye!
  • Jens Keller will be delighted with his side's performance although there are bound to be concerns over the fitness of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who had to leave on a stretcher during the second half.
  • A truly pulsating game of football and a wonderful advert for German football. How far can these sides go in the Champions League? Schalke face Galatasaray at the Veltins-Arena on Tuesday with the game poised nicely at 1-1 whilst Dortmund are already in the hat for the quarter-finals. Jurgen Klopp's side take on high-flying Freiburg next weekend.
  • FULL TIME: SCHALKE 2 - 1 DORTMUND. Jens Keller's side do the double over their arch-rivals with the same scoreline as the reverse fixture in October. First half goals from Julian Draxler and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar sealed the three points for the Miner's who did concede in the second half courtesy of Robert Lewandowski's 17th league goal of the season. In truth, the home side were worthy of the win and they spurned a series of glorious goalscoring opportunites late on. Bayer Leverkusen's 1-0 defeat to Mainz ensures Jurgen Klopp's side remain in second place although Schalke rise to fourth.
  • 90' + 3'
WONDERFUL GOALLINE CLEARANCE! Michel Bastos surges down the left flank and pulls the ball back for Pukki who plays it on to Kolasinac, but his effort is cleared excellently on the line by Schmelzer. Time is up...
  • 90' + 2'
Marco Hoger deservedly goes into the book for a rash challenge on Reus. However, Dortmund cannot take advantage from the resulting set-piece and Lewandowski heads wide. Have Dortmund got one more chance?
  • 90' + 1'
    Yellow Card Marco Höger
  • 90' + 1'
Schalke have the chance to seal the points when they launch another counterattack but Raffael cannot send Pukki free with his pass and Subotic makes a crucial last-ditch tackle.
  • 90'
Raffael's fresh legs look to cause the Dortmund defence problems but he cannot find the strike to match his mazy dribble and Weidenfeller watches the Brazilian drag his shot wide. Into three minutes of stoppage time.
  • 88'
THAT WAS THE CHANCE! Dortmund should be level when Blaszczykowski's pullback somehow misses everybody in the box and falls kindly for Lewandowski 12 yards out but the Pole's fierce effort is straight at Hildebrand. A yard either side and it would have been 2-2!
  • 87'
Dortmund are frantically throwing yellow shirts into the box and Farfan tracks back excellently to prevent Lewandowski from getting his shot away at goal. Three minutes remaining.
  • 85'
HOW DID SCHALKE NOT SCORE? Another glorious opportunity is spurned for the hosts as Farfan does brilliantly to get clear down the right and his low cross is somehow poked wide from a few yards out by Pukki. Bastos was steaming into the box as well and he must have put the striker off. Schalke should have wrapped up the points by now.
  • 83'
Marco Reus looks to bulldoze his way into the box, but the German international is thwarted by that man again, Matip, who clears upfield.
  • 82'
    Substitution Julian Draxler Raffael
Jens Keller makes his final change, replacing the impressive Draxler with on-loan Dynamo Kiev winger Raffael.
  • 82'
Into the final ten minutes at the Veltins-Arena, can Dortmund salvage an equaliser?
  • 79'
MISS OF THE SEASON? Matip produces another briliant interception to start a counterattack for Schalke and Bastos cuts the ball back for Draxler whose well-struck effort is parried by Weidenfeller into the path of Farfan who somehow blasts the ball over from a few yards out. How costly could that miss prove to be?
  • 77'
Marco Reus looks to send Lewandowski away with a neat through ball but Matip is there to produce a crucial interception. The Cameroonian defender has been impressive so far.
  • 76'
    Substitution Ilkay Gündogan Moritz Leitner
  • 75'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR SCHALKE! Julian Draxler leaves Subotic in his wake as he dashes past the Serbian defender before playing the ball right for Pukki, who looks to chip the ball past Weidenfeller one-on-one but is denied by a smart save from the goalkeeper. The Finnish striker should have done better.
  • 73'
    Substitution Roman Neustädter Christian Fuchs
  • 73'
OUCH! That one has to hurt! There's mayhem in the Schalke box and Lewandowski unleashes a strike at goal which manages to strike the unfortunate Gotze in his private regions.
  • 72'
Schalke launch a rare second half attack when Bastos surges down the left wing, but his shot is deflected behind for a corner. Howedes' header from the resulting set-piece is comfortably saved by Weidenfeller.
  • 71'
DORTMUND ARE GETTING CLOSER! Kuba and Reus exchange some neat passes around the Schalke box but the German does not make good connection with his strike and the home side eventually clear their lines.
  • 70'
Gotze delivers a deep cross into the Schalke box which Lewandowski rises highest to meet, but his header glances over Hildebrand's crossbar.
  • 68'
Kuba looks to join Uchida on two assists when he spots the run of Lewandowski, but he cannot find his international compatriot with his through ball this time and Hildebrand claims.
  • 66'
Schalke just cannot get hold of possession in the Dortmund half at the moment. Bastos and Farfan were superb on the wings in the first half but they have hardly been involved since the break. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Dortmund equaliser at this rate.
  • 64'
Jens Keller may look to make a change here. Those Dortmund half-time substitutions have really changed the dynamic of this match. Can the home side regain their two-goal cushion?
  • 62'
SO CLOSE TO 2-2! Dortmund nearly snatch another goal in quick succession when Nuri Sahin drills in a fierce low freekick which is somehow deflected wide by Lewandowski from a few yards out. The net should have been bulging there!
  • 61'
    Yellow Card Sead Kolasinac
Sead Kolasinac is the first Schalke man in the book after he hauls down Kuba. Good freekick position for Dortmund here.
  • 59'
    Assist Jakub Blaszczykowski
  • 59'
    Goal Robert Lewandowski
LEWANDOWSKI PULLS ONE BACK! The Polish striker has not had too much service today but he notches his 17th Bundesliga goal of the season when he latches onto Jakub Blaszczykowski's incise through ball and fires past the advancing Hildebrand with composure. Game on, 2-1!!
  • 58'
Dortmund are slightly on top at the moment and are probing for a goal. However, the Schalke defence is yet to be breached.
  • 56'
This doesn't look good for Schalke as Huntelaar cannot walk and is stretched into the dressing room. Jens Keller will be praying his talisman is fit for the Champions League clash against Galatasaray on Tuesday.
  • 54'
    Substitution Klaas-Jan Huntelaar Teemu Pukki
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar picked up an injury in that scramble and the Dutch striker cannot continue. Finnish striker Teemu Pukki comes on to replace him.
  • 53'
GOAL DISALLOWED FOR DORTMUND! Subotic heads Kuba's set-piece across goal where Bender is there to poke in from close range, but the holding midfielder is penalised for a push on Howedes.
  • 51'
ANOTHER CHANCE GOES BEGGING FOR DORTMUND! Reus has made a real difference for the visitors and he slips an inch-perfect pass behind the Schalke backline for Piszczek who looks to play the pass when he really ought to have shot, allowing Hildebrand to smother the ball.
  • 49'
GOOD CHANCE FOR DORTMUND! Marco Reus nearly makes an instant impact when he cuts the ball back inside the box for Gotze, but the German international leans back and balloons his effort over the crossbar.
  • 48'
Dortmund lump a freekick into the Schalke penalty area and it is cleared to the edge of the box for Kuba, whose low strike is well blocked by a wall of blue shirts.
  • 47'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR SCHALKE! Farfan has caused the Dortmund defence problems all day with his dribbling and he collects Huntelaar's pass excellently before cutting inside Schmelzer and firing weakly at Weidenfeller. The Peruvian really should have done better there.
  • 46'
    Substitution Kevin Großkreutz Marco Reus
  • 46'
    Substitution Mats Hummels Nuri Sahin
  • 46'
Second half is underway at the Veltins-Arena. Can Dortmund snatch an early goal?
  • 46'
Double change from Jurgen Klopp as he looks to turn this game on its head. Mats Hummels and Kevin Grosskreutz are the players making way, with Nuri Sahin and Marco Reus looking to add some attacking impetus.
  • There is still hope for Dortmund though and Schalke fans will remember all too vividly back in September 2008 when die Schwarzgelben fought back from three goals down in the final 21 minutes to snatch a 3-3 draw. Can they salvage something from this match? Let me know your thoughts via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
  • HALF TIME: SCHALKE 2 - 0 DORTMUND. Goals from Marco Hoger and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar have given Jens Keller's side a deserved lead at the break. The German champions have looked shaky in defence and have twice been exposed down their left side by Atsuto Uchida. Gotze has showed glimpses of promise but the Borussians are yet to seriously test Timo Hildebrand. Lots to ponder at the break for Jurgen Klopp.
  • 44'
Schalke launch a 4-on-3 counterattack with Draxler switching the ball out wide to Bastos, but the Brazilian had just strayed offside and a promising move breaks down. Schalke have been good value for their 2-0 lead.
  • 42'
Jurgen Klopp is remonstrating animatedly on the touchlines. He will not be happy with his side's first-half performance. Perhaps we will see Nuri Sahin or Marco Reus after the break.
  • 41'
Mario Gotze produces a neat turn and burst of acceleration to race past Neustaedter but his skidding low drive is well saved by Hildebrand. Can Dortmund find a goal before the break?
  • 39'
DORTMUND HAVE THE BALL IN THE NET...BUT IT'S OFFSIDE! Mario Gotze clips a neat pass behind Howedes for Lewandowski and the Polish international coolly slots the ball into the bottom corner, only to be denied by the linesman's raised flag. That was a close call, it must have been marginal.
  • 37'
Dortmund look rattled at the moment and Schalke nearly make it three when Bastos attempts to play a ball behind the defence for Huntelaar, but the Dutch striker is denied a route to goal by a last-ditch sliding interception from Hummels.
  • 35'
    Assist Atsuto Uchida
  • 35'
    Goal Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
2-0 SCHALKE! WHERE WAS THE MARKING? Atsuto Uchida is the architect again as he swings an inviting cross into the Dortmund box where Huntelaar is allowed to coast in, unmarked, and nod past Weidenfeller from close range. Shocking defending from Jurgen Klopp's side.
  • 32'
    Yellow Card Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is the first man in the referee's notebook after leaning in with his elbow to beat Sven Bender to an aerial duel.
  • 30'
IT SHOULD BE 2-0! Jefferson Farfan takes on three Dortmund players with his mazy dribble before Huntelaar squares the ball across the box for Draxler who only has the goalkeeper to beat, but the 19-year-old can only strike his shot straight at Weidenfeller. In truth, the goalkeeper spread himself well but that was a huge let-off for Dortmund. What a half-hour in Gelsenkirchen!
  • 28'
Ilkay Gundogan looks to restore parity for the visitors when he jinks his way past his marker but his goalbound effort is deflected behind for a corner.
  • 26'
OFF THE LINE! Mario Gotze is the saviour for Dortmund as he produces a splendid goalline clearance to prevent Matip's thumping header from finding the back of the net. I feel there are more goals to come in this one.
  • 25'
Schalke are looking for a second here and they nearly find it when Farfan floats a cross into the box but Neustaedter's header is deflected behind for a corner.
  • 23'
Mats Hummels is looking a little shakey on his return from injury and the Dortmund centre-back is fortunate that no Schalke player is there to profit from his wild mis-kicked clearance from Farfan's cross.
  • 21'
Dortmund are beginning to find their rhythm here and they go close again when Grosskreutz's cross is half-cleared by the Schalke defence before Kuba's half-volley is well blocked by Matip. The Cameroonian defender saved his side from what seemed a certain goal there.
  • 19'
DORTMUND GO CLOSE! Lukasz Piszczek is proving a good outlet from right-back and he slips a neat pass behind the Schalke defence for Kuba, whose shot across goal creeps inches past the post. Let-off for the home side there.
  • 18'
Some off-field news for you as Schalke's official Twitter account have just confirmed that Howedes has extended his contract with the club until 2017.
  • 16'
Bastos has enjoyed a fine start to his Schalke career since joining from Lyon in January and the Brazilian goes close when his effort from just outside the box swerves narrowly off target.
  • 14'
THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOME GOAL! Michel Bastos pings an inch-perfect diagonal pass over the Dortmund defence for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar who hits the ball on the volley first time, forcing Weidenfeller into a smart low stop.
  • 13'
Dortmund almost find an instant response when Kuba and Gotze exchange neat passes on the edge of the Schalke box, but the Polish winger is denied when his shot is blocked brilliantly by the head of Howedes.
  • 12'
    Assist Atsuto Uchida
  • 12'
    Goal Julian Draxler
1-0 SCHALKE!! The home side claim an early lead when Marco Hoger slips a incise pass into the path of Atsuto Uchida and the Japanese wing-back cuts the ball back excellently for Julian Draxler who strikes the ball first time across Weidenfeller and into the far corner. Wonderful finish from the 19-year-old!
  • 10'
Mario Gotze is looking sharp and the nippy attacker controls Grosskreutz's cross with a deft first touch before his shot is closed down brilliantly by Matip. Entertaining first ten minutes here.
  • 8'
The home crowd scream for a penalty when Neven Subotic's wild clearance appears to strike the hand of Sven Bender in the box. However, the referee is not interested in the appeals and waves on.
  • 7'
GOOD CHANCE FOR DORTMUND! Jakub Blaszczykowski chests Schmelzer's diagonal ball perfectly into the path of Gotze and with options left and right, the 20-year-old opts to go alone but can only drag his shot wide of Hildebrand's goal.
  • 5'
Schalke work the ball from left to right excellently and Farfan's teasing cross is punched to the edge of the box by Weidenfeller, who is fortunate to watch Hoger's follow-up drift just wide of his right-hand post.
  • 3'
First shot of the match goes to Schalke as Michel Bastos' effort from outside the box slices wide of Roman Weidenfeller's goal.
  • 2'
Marcel Schmelzer makes an early dash down the left for the Borussians and he plays a ball towards Mario Gotze, but the German international cannot wriggle his way past Benedikt Howedes and Schalke clear.
  • 1'
The referee blows his whistle and Dortmund get the ball rolling. Are we set for a derby classic? Let's find out...
  • Schalke have not beaten their arch-rivals on this ground in the Bundesliga since February 2010. Can Dortmund continue that record with victory today and keep the pressure on Bayer Leverkusen who are hot on their heels. Remember, you can let me know your thoughts and predictions throughout the match via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
  • A truly fantastic atmosphere at the Veltins-Arena with the home crowd already bouncing in unison and waving large blue flags. There's a good turnout from the away supporters too with a large section of one stand a wave of black and yellow.
  • With Dortmund already through to the Champions League quarter-finals and Bayern Munich holding a strong advantage over Arsenal, Germany could have three representatives in the last eight if Schalke make home advantage count against Galatasaray this week. The Bundesliga is certainly becoming one of the best and most competitive leagues in Europe.
  • Jurgen Klopp makes two changes to the side which defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 in the Champions League in midweek. Mats Hummels returns from injury to replace Felipe Santana in the heart of defence whilst Kevin Grosskreutz is preferred to the out-of-form Marco Reus.
  • Jens Keller makes one forced change from the side that thumped Wolfsburg 4-1 last week. Jermaine Jones picked up his fifth caution of the season and is suspended, meaning Marco Hoger moves from central defence into midfield. Atsuto Uchida starts at right-back. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar leads the attack after scoring his first goal since November last weekend.
  • DORTMUND (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Hummels, Subotic, Schmelzer; Bender, Gundogan; Blaszczykowski, Gotze, Grosskreutz; Lewandowski.
  • SCHALKE (4-2-3-1): Hildebrand; Uchida, Howedes, Matip, Kolasinac; Hoger, Neustaedter; Farfan, Draxler, Bastos; Huntelaar.
  • Let's bring you up to speed with the line-ups as both sides field 4-2-3-1 formations.
  • In the 141 previous meetings between the sides, Schalke have the most wins (56). Dortmund have emerged victorious on 48 occasions with 37 draws. The Miners secured the bragging rights earlier in the season when goals from Ibrahim Afellay and Marco Hoger secured an impressive 2-1 victory at Westfalenstadion.
  • Prepare for the next chapter of Germany's biggest derby as Jens Keller's Schalke look to do the double over their fierce rivals Dortmund. Jurgen Klopp's side have more or less watched their Bundesliga title slip back into the hands of Bayern Munich but victory today could put a serious dent in Schalke's Champions League aspirations for next season. Bringing you all the action from the Revierderby at the Veltins-Arena, my name is Max Bentley. Feel free to let me know your thoughts on the game via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
