Shots on Target
An entertaining match to kick-off the weekend then, unless you are a Schalke fan! Stick around on Goal.com for all the match reaction for this clash, and match coverage of all the other big games today and tomorrow!
The full-time whistle blows! Bayern Munich have swept Schalke aside with a clinical second half display to win 2-0. Kroos and Muller scored a poacher's goal and a super solo strike respectively. Die Konigsblauen just weren't able to match the Bundesliga giants and only the most deluded and devout Schalke fan would argue they deserve even a draw.
Two minutes is the answer!
How much time will the fourth official add on?
The home side don't shoot, instead spreading it out wide. The whipped ball in falls perfectly onto Papadopoulous' head, but the defender's nodded shot bounces straight into Neuer's stomach for his to smother.
Affelay and Fuchs try to pry a gap open down the left. Gustavo fouls Aaffelay and Schalke have a free-kick 30-35 yards out in front of goal....
A shocking Schalke comeback would certainly be exciting but - and sorry Konigsblauen fans - it just isn't going to happen for them on home soil this afternoon.
Robben leaves the field of play with a bit of a niggle. No point forcing him to play on with the game in the bag I guess.
If Schalke come alive at the end of this half like they did at the end of the first they might have a chance of grabbing a goal. Farfan forces a save from Neuer from distance, but his strike just isn't good enough.
A chunky pause in play as Robben receives treatment around the halfway line.
Yellow Card Joel Matip
Martinez is incredibly unlucky not to see his contact with the ball see the net rustle from Robben low, driven free-kick from the right which Unnerstall can only palm across his goal line.
Yellow Card Christian Fuchs
On goal difference, Bayern will sit atop the Bundesliga table tonight. Unless Schalke pull off a miraculous recovery, that is.
Papadopoulos somehow wins a free-kick after charging into Badstuber rashly. I guess the ref's feeling sorry for the hosts...
Side-to-side, back and forth - Bayern's passing and possession play is simply too much for Schalke.
It will take an almighty flurry to salvage anything from this game for Schalke. The hosts remain on the back foot and look no closer to scoring, or even getting a shot on target anymore!
Super save from Unnerstall to prevent the game going 3-0 in Bayern's favour! Robben was one-on-one with the goalkeeper and looked certain to score the team's third of the match, but the Schalke shot-stopper reacts to his lobbed shot and forcing the ball away from danger!
Shots of €40 million man Javi Martinez warming up on the sidelines.
Bayern have eased their foot off the gas with that two-goal cushion. Schalke, on the other hand, are frantically trying to up their pace and get back into this clash.
This match is rapidly slipping through Schalke's fingers now. Will this tie finish 2-0 once again?
Goal Thomas Müller
GOAL!! A quickfire double! Muller nutmegs Fuchs from the right and sprints into the box, burying the ball into the bottom right past Unnerstall. A quality goal and Fuchs has egg all over his face! 2-0 to Bayern Munich.
Assist Thomas Müller
Goal Toni Kroos
GOAL!! Below-par defending from Schalke and they're made to pay. Muller slips the ball through the static centre-backs and Kroos nudges ahead of his marker to put Bayern Munich 1-0 ahead with a curling strike into the corner!
Muller with a header six yards from goal!! Oh, it's gone just wide! The ball bounces by the right upright after the attacke leapt the highest in the area and left Unnerstall stumped. Schalke get away with one there.
Jones gets a pat on the head and a friendly shove from Robben after an unfair tackle on the Dutch winger.
Chance for the host! Huntelaar found himself free baring down on goal but Bayern's defenders got back to block his path. Badstuber gets the ball on the right edge of the box and squares for Holtby, who lumps it well wide of the left post.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Mandzukic has a little tackling scuffle which gives Schalke a free-kick in their own half. They've been at each other all match have those two.
Schalke have only beaten Bayern on home soil once in the last seven years! Can Die Koonigblauen buck the trend today?
And we're off!! No subs at half-time, by the way.
The players are back out on the pitch and we're seconds from recommencing. Seconds, I tell you!
Right on the 45-minute mark, the referee blows for half-time! Both sides have had their fair share of dominance in this entertaining but goalless Bundesliga clash. Bayern began the better side and Mandzukic should have scored a simple header midway through the first half. At the other end, Jones, Huntelaar and Farfan have all threatened to open the scoring but are struggling to make it through the visitors' defence and past the safe hands of Neuer. Schalke 0-0 Bayern Munich it remains!
Robben is called up on a raised boot in a challenge on Roman Neustadter. No cards, sensibly.
Jones fluffs a shot inside the box. Promising midfield movement though from Die Konigsblauen.
Bayern have won the last two clashes against Schalke 2-0. At this rate, that scoreline isn't too unrealistic though we're witnessing quite a flurry of activity from the hosts right now!
Holtby is forced to make a loose pass by the pressing Bayern defence. The Schalke attacking attempts are completely luckless at the moment.
Best chance yet for Schalke! Farfan shoots 12 yards from gol and forces a quality save from Neuer to his top left-hand corner, conceding a corner but preventing a goal.
Germany head coach Joachim Low is in the crowd, surveying this enticing Bundesliga clash the stands. I wonder who's catching his eye today...
Jones made a right meal of an incident 25 yards from the Bayern goal, going down like he's been shot after he was the one who accidentlally kicked the visitors' defender!
Muller hoofs it into the crowd much to his team-mate's disappointed, after an inch-perfect pass into the tip of the box and a tidy lay-off from Kroos.
Luis Gustavo has been solid in the middle of the park for the visitors thus far, blocking and intercepting any attacks through the middle for Die Roten.
This is end-to-end stuff, very entertaining. Muller is caught offside at one end less than 30 seconds after Huntelaar was able to adjust his body to head in the direction of the goal after a speedy cross from the Schalke right.
The Veltins Arena is still echoing with chants from the home fans but there's a bit of frustration seeping in. The hosts have so far been unable to find gaps in Bayern's defence.
Schalke passing it around their defence again, but on the halfway line this time at least.
Huntelaar is a bit greedy here: the striker runs inside the box on the right and, instead of squaring for Jones who was in a better position, he goes for the glory and shoots into the side netting.
How did he not score?! Arjen Robben has been limited on the left wing so far this afternoon but he bursts free towards the byline just inside the box and whips a perfect ball for Mandzukic at the back post, but the Bayern striker somehow heads over from four or five yards! It remains 0-0!
Excellent passing between the Schalke players. Matip is the player to break the routine but he had run half the length of the pitch with the ball before finally knocking the ball out of his possession.
The whipped set-piece is punched clear confidently by Unnerstall. It's a good job too because a couple of Bayern attackers were lurking behind him at the back post unmarked!
Schalke defender Joel Matip is penalised for bundling into the back of Kroos 40 yards out on the right wing. Free-kick to Bayern now...
Schweinsteiger's diagonal pass from the centre to the right is intercepted as Bayern continue to press, with middling results.
Jermaine Jones protests with the referee to punish Arjen Robben more heavily for a tiny touch on Lewis Holtby. The ref's having none of it, but Die Konigsblauen do have a free-kick 50 yards from goal.
Bayern have had 54% of the possession so far, the stats are showing, but that stat is deceiving as the visitors have spent far more time in the opposite half with the ball than the home team.
Mario Mandzukic finds himself unexpectedly past the Schalke back-four but he stumbles as he rushes to shoot after realising he's been gifted the opportunity 20 yards out. The feeble effort, as a result, dribbles back towards Unnerstall.
Bayern are undisputedly in the ascendancy in this Bundesliga clash. Plenty of possession for Jupp Heynckes' men early on.
The visitors go close! The ball is whipped in from the right for Schweinsteiger, who heads goalwards towards Toni Kroos. The Bayern attacker can't nudge the neck-height ball past Schalke goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall.
Thomas Muller gives the ball away in attack on the right but the hosts' attempt at getting out of their own half is feeble and Bayern are back in posession.
Jefferson Farfan powers towards the 18-yard box from just before the halfway into acres of space and fires a 25-yard shot at Neuer. It'sstraight at the German goalkeeper but the early effort pleases the majority of the Veltins Arena.
Julian Draxler gets hold on the ball on the left and drives in the box but he slips and his cross for the waiting Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is inadequate and Bayern can clear their lines.
Far louder boos are reserved for Manuel Neuer when the ball trickles back to the Bayern box, who made the move from Die Konigsblauen last summer to Die Roten.
A foul by Toni Kroos on the Schalke left brings about universal booing from the home attendance.
And we're off! Schalke get us started in blue tees and white shorts, against the all red kit of Bayern.
A magnificent torrent of blue and white flags inside the Veltins Arena. Only a couple of minutes until kick-off now...
