Spoils shared as the clash between Salgaocar FC and United SC ended in a 0-0 draw...
Francis Fernandes returned to the starting eleven for the Goans after starting on the bench against Dempo SC while Rahul Kumar missed the tie due to an injury.
Meanwhile, Subrata Bhattacharya made three changes to his side with Biswajit Biswas, Sukhen Dey and Abhijit Das coming in place of Anupam Sarkar, Asif Kotayil and Hasan Al Moustafa.
A good shot by Biswajit Biswas from the left side of the Salgaocar box saw an equally good save by Karanjit Singh who had to dive to his left in the eighth minute.
The visitor's second chance came in the 13th minute as Waheed Adekunle sidesteped his marker to find Biswajit in the box, but the latter's shot on target was blocked by a sliding tackle by Matthew Foschini.
In the next minute, the first real chance for the home side had Darryl Duffy released in the box by a crisp pass. However, United SC goalkeeper Abhijit Das came off his line to deflect the Scot's shot wide.
Karanjit Singh displayed some top class goalkeeping to deny Mohammed Rafique and Eric Brown in the following minutes. Abhijit Das also effected a save against a shot on the turn by Duffy who received a pass in the box by Bikash Jairu as both sides failed to convert their chances in the first half.
The first chance of the second half came in the 52nd minute as Dudu Omagbemi managed to shrug off his marker and whip a cross in, but Duffy's header was directed straight into the hands of Abhijit Das.
It was a scappy affair as both teams struggled to create any clear cut chances.
In the 75th minute, it was disappointing from Rosario Mendes again, as all he had to do was to find a team-mate in the rival team's goalmouth, but failed to do so.
Abhijit Das was called into action in the 83rd minute as he had to dive low to his right in order to ward off Chika Wali's header from a Freiman Peixoto free-kick.
The scoreline remain unchanged from the start as the game ended 0-0. Following the result, Salgaocar will remain second with 34 points from 20 matches while United Sports Club will have 21 points from 20 matches alongside Rangdajied United and Mohun Bagan.
