The Goan outfits have suffered a loss in their last game and will hope to bounce back on Sunday...Three teams, namely Pune FC, Bengaluru FC and Salgaocar FC, are currently tied on 18 points ahead of round 12 fixtures.
The Green and Whites lost to Bengaluru FC in the last match in a dramatic fashion and prior to that, they were unlucky to have only picked up a point against Pune FC with the visitors winning a contentious penalty.
"We had a good sessions for the last two days. We have a recovery training the day after the match. Usually, I used to give them an off, but this time we had a video analysis session as there are things that I want my style and system to get reinforced with some players," he said.
"Ups and downs in a long league happens. You have to keep patience and keep working hard. What is more important is the performance. Even if you perform well, sometimes you don't get the results, but in the long run you benefit."
Salgaocar started off as one of the best defensive outfits but have conceded seven of their 11 goals in their last five encounters as compared to letting in only four goals in their first five games. On the other hand, having scored at least four more goals than any other team, they are the highest goalscoring outfit with top scorer Darryl Duffy vying for his 100th career goal.
Meanwhile, Sporting Clube de Goa were edged out in a thrilling five-goal encounter in their last match by Churchill Brothers SC who got their first win in 10 matches, but not before coming back from their 1-3 loss to Mohammedan Sporting to hand Pune FC with their first defeat and hold the likes of East Bengal and Bengaluru FC to a draw each.
Interestingly, had Sporting won against Churchill Brothers on Thursday, they too would have joined the top three clubs with 18 points.
The Flaming Oranje coach, Oscar Bruzon Barreras, hence hopes for another good Goan derby on Sunday while admitting that Salgaocar FC are a stronger team as compared to last season.
"In 2013, we have defeated Salgaocar five times - I-League and Goa League - drew once and lost none. Therefore, all of us have a good reason to be optimistic and face the game with a winning attitude and mentality.
"Although, it's fair recognising that Salgaocar has become a stronger and more competitive side since Derrick [Pereira] is there. I anticipate it is going be a very disputed and tough game for both sides. I really hope to witness a huge Goan derby counting on the support and assistance of a big crowd of Goan footballers. It definetely will be worth it."
Sporting midfielders Stephene Barreto, Joseph Pereira or Mackroy Peixoto have not yet recovered from their niggles while striker Dawson Fernandes, who is on a long way to recovery, is expected to go under the knife to treat the injury to his right knee in the coming week.
