Salgaocar FC - Rangdajied United Preview: The Greens look to close gap at the top

Following a draw between Bengaluru and Pune, Derrick Pereira's men will be eager to notch up another home victory.

Salgaocar FC will look to strengthen their title-bid by bagging all three points when they face a relegation-threatened Rangdajied United FC in an I-League encounter at the Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Saturday.

Derrick Pereira’s men have recovered brilliantly from a mid-season slump that saw them go winless in seven consecutive matches. However, the team has garnered 16 points in their last 6 matches and the inclusion of Dudu Omagbemi in the winter transfer window has provided the team with the impetus they have been craving for long.

The Greens now have 34 points from 20 matches and a win in this fixture will put them only a point behind chart-toppers Bengaluru FC.

Nicolau Colaco hasn’t recovered from his injury and is expected to miss the tie.

“Our boys have worked hard during the winter break especially on the defense not to concede goals and this has helped the team to win matches.

“We need to remain more focused and win our next four matches and see that top team loses couple of matches which will help us to win the title for the second time,” said Pereira.

Rangdajied were on a winning spree before their last match when East Bengal put a full-stop to their three match winning run. The hill side failed to cope up with the humidity in Kolkata and may face similar problems in Goa as well.

The pair of Ranti Martins and Kim Song Yong will bear the primary responsibility of scoring while the likes of Eugeneson Lyngdoh and Steven Dias will have important roles to play in the build-up of each attack.

Ranti has scored four goals in as many matches after securing a transfer to the new I-League side. Gouramangi Singh and Lamine Tamba will pair up in the central defense and look to stifle the prolific pair of Dudu and Darryl Duffy.

Rangdajied have 21 points from their 20 matches and are placed ninth in the table and have two home matches left, one of them being a Shillong derby.

A draw for them would be a good result considering the form Salgaocar are in.
