Salgaocar FC - ONGC FC Preview: Who will triumph in this bottom-table clash?

Salgaocar FC - ONGC FC Preview: Who will triumph in this bottom-table clash?

Anselm Noronha

The Goans suffered a 2-0 defeat to Pune FC at home and make up the foot of the I-League table along with ONGC FC as David Booth searches for his first win in-charge of the club..

Nicolau, Augustin, Rahul, Brian, Collin;
Gilbert, Randeep, Jacobs, Rocus, Francis;

Minz, Gurung, Odeola, Gawas;
Brown, Sangha, Katsumi, Joel;
Lalrinuamana, Keniston

David Booth must be wondering just what he has to do to get three points. The Greens are on a horrible run of form that sees them without a win for 6 games. The Goans are currently on 6 points from 10 games played and lie 13th in the table.

Booth's side have been woeful defensively and anonymous in attack. The release of Australian striker Sean Rooney and the international commitments of Phillipines striker Angel Guirado have severly dented any scoring threat the Goans carried before. Booth's men now face I-League's basement club ONGC who have their own share of problems.

The match, which is one of four home games for the Goans, will be Booth's best chance of garnering some much-needed points or risk being embroiled in a relegation battle.

Ask ONGC how it feels to drop two points after leading by two goals

ONGC FC will be kicking themselves for squandering a two goal lead against Sporting Clube de Goa in Round 10 of the I-League. The Oilmen had raced ahead thanks to goals from Keniston and Eric Brown before conceding two goals just ten minutes before full-time.

Subrata Bhattacharya's threadbare squad has been ruthlessly exposed thanks to players like Prasanjit Ghosh and Katsumi Yusa getting themselves sent off. Katsumi made his return to the team in the game against Sporting and the Oilmen will welcome back first-choice custodian Prasanjit Ghosh when they face Salgaocar.

Unlike the Goans, ONGC have been able to find the back of the net but have showed an inability to retain that lead. This is proved by the fact that they have conceded 26 goals so far. If ONGC are to entertain any hopes of getting three points, they will first have to tighten up at the back or risk dropping points.

Salgaocar FC – It will be interesting to see what changes Booth makes to the team that lost to Pune FC. Milagres Gonsalves is expected to keep his place in the team. Charan Rai has been added to the roster while the good news is that Francis Fernandes is back in contention for a place in starting eleven after recovering from an injury. Luciano Sobrosa shall miss the tie as he is injured.

ONGC FC – The Delhi side will welcome back goalkeeper Prasanjit Ghosh who returns from suspension. Bhattacharya might just field the same team that shared the points with Sporting Goa last week. Kailash Patil and Jatin Singh Bisht are on the treatment table and miss be out of the eighteen.

  • Salgaocar have won two of the three encounters between these two sides and have shared the points on one occasion.
  • Salgaocar striker Angel Guirado has played for Spanish side Deportivo la Coruna between 2006-07.
  • ONGC have conceded the most number of goals so far in the I-League (26).
