Struggled against Torres once again and his decision to come off his line very early on set the tone for the rest of the game. Will want to forget this tie ever took place.
Lifted his side with a superb header early in the second half, as well as impressing with a resolute overall performance. Came very close to grabbing a second headed goal, showing that he was a constant threat throughout the second half.
Was solid on the ball but was unable to stand up to a patient Chelsea side in no need of going gung ho.
Did not falter significantly but was largely unnoticeable in the first half until he was replaced by Kaleshin at the break.
Tackled firmly but fairly and won plenty of challenges down the left-hand side. Did not deliver as much in an attacking sense in the first half but came to life in the second to set up Rubin's second goal.
Displayed great footwork in beating Chelsea defenders at will in the first half and showed a creative flair Rubin were desperately missing in the first leg. Was determined in the tackle and was easily Rubin's biggest threat before coming off in the second half.
Showed good positioning throughout and can consider himself unlucky not to have opened the scoring in the first half after Cech got a hand to his shot across goal. Got the goal his performance deserved in the second half with a well-taken header.
Coolly dispatched his spot-kick to put his side into the lead and controlled Rubin’s play from the middle but was often caught in possession. Did not impress as much as during his first-leg performance.
Had a quiet first half but whipped in a dangerous cross to set up Rubin's initial equaliser. Came off half-way through the second half.
Missed a big chance to put Rubin ahead after three minutes and paid the full price as Chelsea went straight up the other end to make it 1-0. Will rue not converting that early opportunity to turn the tie and looked as though he would never recover from it despite a resolute second-half display.
Caused trouble in the penalty area but his tendency to drop deep meant he was not always in the right position to help his side out up front. Was often forced into long shots that failed to test Petr Cech.
Looked very comfortable in the first half, which was largely due to being untested by the Rubin players. Did produce high quality saves when called upon, though, and could not really be faulted for any of Rubin's goals.
Blocked an early shot from Eremenko which could have turned the tie and was typically solid at the back thereafter.
Did not really influence the game but stepped up to the occasion well considering this was only his second senior start.
Was composed on the ball and produced a resolute display considering it was only the Portugese defender's seventh start over the last two seasons. Did not set the world alight with this performance, however, and should not threaten Ashley Cole and Ryan Bertrand's claims to the left-back position.
Carried the ball forward well and distributed his typical share of long-range passes. Showed poor marking for Rubin's second, though, and will be disappointed to have conceded three when his side were so in control early on.
Produced neat link-up play with Benayoun down the right, ventured forward at will. Did not influence the game too much, however, and was very unlucky to have given away a second-half penalty for Rubin.
Energetic throughout and got forward with good runs. Improved on his sloppy performance in the first leg at Stamford Bridge and came off after an hour knowing he had put in a good shift for his side.
Threatened in the first half with pace and energy, firing in shots from good positions. Was rewarded with a goal early in the second half after a great turn and finish to give Chelsea a 2-1 lead.
Was the most advanced of Chelsea's central midfielders and played a fantastic pass for Torres’ first goal. Ventured forward freely and took advantage of being given a versatile role, not shying away from set-piece responsibility either.
Showed great energy, just like in the first leg but was unable to produce a notable impact. Came off for Oscar in the second half.
First real action produced a goal – a delightful half-volley from way outside the penalty area that sailed in after Rhyzikov had wandered off his line. Has made a habit of embarrassing this particular goalkeeper.
Came on for Kuzmin at half-time and his energy notably spurred the home side on.
Came on for Kasaev with about 20 minutes to go but did not really transform the game, despite a fairly faultless performance.
Came on for Orbaiz mid-way through the second half but did very little up front. Will be disappointed with his contribution over the two legs.
Replaced Lampard in the 90th minute.
Came on for Benayoun with 10 minutes to go and produced an energetic display which saw him fire in shots at goal but get booked.
J. Obi Mikel
Came on for Ramires during the second-half and held things well in midfield after Rubin's third. Not his best display in Europe, however.
