Needed to be quicker, and slightly braver, when coming off his line for Rodriguez's opener - though may argue he was fouled. Left stranded one-on-one for the second goal.
Made an important block in his own six-yard box. Dealt well with Shaw and was a real threat on his own flank when venturing forward. Crossed for Mariappa's chance.
Headed narrowly over with a good early chance. Left Rodriguez, whose speed also troubled him a number of times, for the opening goal. Part of a defence again beaten by a little bit of movement for the second goal.
Didn't have much to do defensively for much of the game, but also offered little in attack.
Denied a headed goal by a fine Boruc save. Was worried by Rodriguez's pace at times. Caught flat-footed for Lallana's goal.
Whipped in a great ball for Morrison's early chance. Showed some neat touches on the ball, and provided more testing balls into the box, but ultimately failed to create anything clear cut. Withdrawn after the break.
Caused Hooiveld and Shaw a number of problems in the air and on the floor. Felt he should have had a penalty, but it wasn't given. His threat faded as the game went on, though.
Struggled to have any influence on proceedings as he sat back while Reading attacked and was dominated by Saints midfield as they came forward.
Didn't see as much of the ball as his other attacking team-mates in the first half, and failed to do much with it when he did after the break.
Quiet first half but was replaced by Leigertwood at half-time after taking a boot to the face.
A. Le Fondre
Was lively up top and a regular threat in behind the Saints defence before the break. Should have scored when gifted a chance. Shot over with an acrobatic effort before also fading in the second half. Almost pulled one back with a decent header.
Misplaced a couple of nervy goal-kicks early on, but looked good under the high ball and made a brilliant save to deny Mariappa at 0-0. Alert to tip a McAnuff corner away from the top corner. Almost carried a Le Fondre header into his own net but, although replays aren't conclusive, did well to react quickly.
Escaped punishment for a clumsy-looking tackle on Robson-Kanu in the box in the first half and again failed to clear the ball before Le Fondre's clear opening. Did make a number of other good blocks and clearing headers, though, as he was solid after the break.
Tried to play the ball out from the back nearly all the time, which got him into trouble on a few occasions. One of a number who failed to clear the danger before Le Fondre should have scored, but was fairly solid elsewhere.
Was given few issues by McAnuff, but wasn't his normal threat on the front foot. Upped his attacking input after the break, and was also largely untroubled at the back.
Was sometimes bullied by Robson-Kanu in the earlier stages of the first half and went missing in build-up to Mariappa's header. Grew as the game went on and became assured at the back, while also providing more of a threat going forward.
Wasted a few good openings throughout the match. Should have made it two before half-time, but snatched at the chance. Went missing at times and was too often slow and sloppy in the final third. Rightly taken off for Lallana in the second half, who made up for his earlier miss.
Drove forward to good effect a couple of times, and as usual made a number of tackles in front of his defence. Like Cork, he could have moved the ball better in the first half, but he did improve after the break.
Did a decent job of linking the more defensive midfield play into attack. Had a brilliant opening after the break but finished tamely. Withdrawn with a few minutes left.
Another who failed to clear the ball that almost led to a Le Fondre opener, but otherwise did some solid work in front of his defence. Perhaps a bit slower than normal in building attacks but worked hard as always.
Was the game's best player by a distance, and one of Saints' only players to really take the game by the scruff of the neck when things weren't going their way. Looked bright and sharp on the ball, and showed bravery when taking his goal. He hit the wood work soon after and almost bagged another after a fabulous driving run. He then assisted Lallana with a fine chipped pass. Given an ovation when withdrawn in the final minute.
Was an effective target man, as always, and brought others into the game well. Found Rodriguez with a cute return ball for the opener. Presented Davis with a great chance with a fine defence-splitting pass.
