Assist Jay Rodriguez

Club Captain Lallana on for Ramirez. Saints skipper gets a great reception from travelling fans.
McCleary on for Guthrie as Adkins tries to shake things up. Pogrebnyak still on the bench though as Reading trail.
CHANCE! Lambert inches from converting a good ball in from Rodriguez. A Gazza-esque slide in the six-yard box but unable to add the finishing touch.
Robson-Kanu wins a corner, after good work down the right this time. Le Fondre involved in the build up but Saints clear the corner again after unconvincing defending. Southampton's high line looks to be keeping the hosts at bay.
Good work from McAnuff down the left forces a Reading corner. Set piece evades everyone, including keeper Boruc but Reading can't capitalise.
Pogrebnyak is warming up as time ticks away for the home side. They like to leave it late and will need a turnaround here. Slow start to the second half.
CHANCE! Davis put through but denied as Federici smothers. Great ball by Lambert.
Early corner for the home team after some head tennis in the middle of the park. Adkins has clearly had an effect as the high pressing is back again for the Royals, but no real chances as yet for either team. Still 0-1.
Leigertwood on for Akpan at the break. The former Everton man did take a knock to the head in the first half and Adkins has opted to change it around. Lambert, Rodriguez and Ramirez start where they left off, early threat for Saints.
Work to do for Nigel Adkins if he is to turn this one around. Pogrebnyak and Hunt wait on the bench if he decides to change things at the break. Pochettino will be happy enough after a slow start. Big 45 minutes for Reading
Reading will be disappointed to be going in a goal down but failure to take chances has cost the home team. Lambert, Rodriguez and Ramirez enjoying some good openings and could've been two-nil but the Uruguayan failed to convert Rodriguez's initial chance.
Reading 0-1 Southampton. Adkins' side behind at the break. The home side started the better and should've been in front through Le Fondre. There will be some debate over the goal but Rodrguez took his chance well.
Two minutes of stoppage time in the first half. Much to do for Reading as they look for an equaliser. It's gone flat for the home side since going behind.
Gaston Ramirez drags a shot wide after Federici parries a Rodriguez attempt. A good chance for Ramirez and could have been two-nil. Southampton's forwards are enjoying linking up and are causing the home side problems

A tight offside call against Le Fondre as Southampton defend with a high line. The right decision. A positive start for the home side.
Adam Le Fondre will be vital for Nigel Adkins for the remainder of the season and his running of the channels so far is stretching the visiting team. Reading have their first corner.
The home side are pressing high up the pitch and most of the action in the Saints' half so far. Adkins will be happy with the start his side have made, but Southampton are yet to have any meaningful possession.
