The north eastern outfit thumped United SC 4-0 at home to suggest that there may be life in them yet.Rangdajied United cruised to a 4-0 win over United Sports Club in an I-League encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Sunday evening.
Kim Yong Song got the ball rolling in the 53rd minute before Ranti Martins came back to haunt his previous employers by getting on the scoresheet in the 69th minute. Finally, Lalnunpuia added two more to the tally in the 86th and 92nd minutes to put a little gloss on the score-line.
Ranti Martins proved to be a handful in the first half as he troubled the United defense on three separate occasions around the 20 minute mark. However, none of the chances created came to fruitition and the sides went into the break with the scores level at 0-0.
Eight minutes into the second half, Rangdajied opened the scoring. Kim Song Yong got hold of the ball and unleashed a right-footed effort from outside the box that beat Jayanta Pal, who had replaced the injured Sangram Mukherjee in goal in the 22nd minute, to give the hosts the lead.
In the 69th minute, Ranti Martins scored against his former team to double Rangdajied's advantage. Kim was instrumental this time around as well although the defense was slow to react to the danger. He received the ball on the right, drove forward with it and then passed to Martins inside the box who made no mistake with his finsh.
Any hopes of a United comeback were dashed by Lalnunpuia who replaced Munmun Lugun in the 79th minute. He went on to score a brace in the span of six minutes to complete the drubbing in what was a fantastic result for the Blues.
The win for Rangdajied comes after a good victory over league leaders Bengaluru FC in their last outing. This result enhances their chances of eveading the drop while United will not only rue their missed opportunity to climb up the table, but the level of performance as well.
