Pune FC 1-1 United SC: Asif earns a point for the away side

Pune FC

The Red Lizards conceded the first goal on home soil this season which cost them two points in the end...

Pune FC and United SC played out a 1-1 draw at the Balewadi Sports Complex in a round twelve I-League fixture on Sunday evening. Nikhil Kadam scored the opening goal in the 77th minute and K.Asif restored parity just five minutes later for the away side.

Mike Snoei's side were the first to pull the trigger as Nikhil Kadam was set in on goal thanks to a sumptuous over the top ball by the midfield. However, the chance was taken away as soon as it came. Sukhen Dey tore back to defense, putting in last ditch tackle to disrupt the shot from the left foot of Kadam. Ishant Debnath saved the subsequent timid attempt at goal and United SC got it away from danger.

United SC then had their turn barely four minutes apart as an over the top ball to Vineeth CK was well saved by Amrinder Singh in PFC's goal as he tried to chip it over the keeper to no avail. The half went on a Pune FC continued to find pockets of space in the United SC backline. However, United SC then had another chance to take the lead but Ranti couldn't rise up enough to touch in the ball from a pin-point cross by Eric Brown.

Then a wild shot, taken by the normally reliable Ranti Martins, set utter confusion in the Pune FC defensive ranks as the ball ricocheted of a few defenders' shin before falling kindly to Eric Brown who shot over from inside the box.

Lalarempuia then sets up a golden opportunity for Pune FC, as his over the top ball was met by Gurjinder Singh, yet, the Pune left back squandered the chance as he shot straight at Ishant in the opposition and wasn't able to do justice to the subsequent rebound.  United SC then had a chance of their own as their corner was saved by Amrinder again.

The half petered out to utter drabness as both teams looked keep to share the spoils than go for a win.

Not much transpired in the second half as the play was uninspiring with neither side willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

The deadlock was broken in the 77th minute when Douhou Pierre’s through-ball saw Mustapha’s shot being blocked by an onrushing Debnath. Nikhil Kadam picked up the pieces to slot the ball home into an empty net.

The lead didn’t last long as Ranti Martins tested Amrinder with a peach of a shot and the ball was thereafter sent across the face of goal which saw Asif tap in comfortably.

The game ended with a 1-1 score-line as the two sides settled for a point each.
