Derrick Perreira's men will be on cloud nine now. The Red Lizards came away with a resounding 5-1 win at the home of the reigning I-League champions Dempo SC. The performance at Goa will have marked them as genuine contenders for the I-League title along with Prayag United, Churchill Brothers, Dempo and East Bengal.
They now face a Prayag United side who have been the only team so far in the I-League to take maximum points off East Bengal. Eelco Schattorie's men put in an impressive performance to bring the Federation Cup champs' unbeaten run to a grinding halt last weekend.
Perreira will be aware of the threat posed by Ranti Martins and Lester Fernandes, who left Pune FC over the wummer. He will also have to nip at the bud any feeling of complacency amongst the Pune FC ranks that may have crept in after their win over Dempo.
Eelco Schattorie on the other hand will be a proud man after he saw his side do what no other team has done so far in the I-League, beat East Bengal. The Dutchman's team were confident on the ball and some of their link-up play was sublime which culminated in a Ranti Martins winner.
The result puts United SC in fifth place, three points adrift of Pune FC who have played a game less. Schattorie will no doubt look to neutralise the threat posed by Pune FC's James Moga and winger Khangthang Paite who has looked unplayable in the last few matches.
The Dutchman will have his task cut out as he will not have the services of two vital cogs of the Prayag side in midfielder Carlos Hernandez who did not travel with the team and Bello Rasaq who is serving a two-match suspension after his scuffle with East Bengal's Uga Okpara.
Pune FC– Derrick Perreira revealed that he had a fully fit squad to choose from and that he would be most likely to retain the same team that got the result at Dempo. Jeje Lalpekhlua might get the nod ahead of Subhash Singh after an impressive performance as a substitute.
Prayag United SC – Carlos Hernandez and Bello Rasaq will be unavailable for this game. Mohamed Rafique and Anupam Sarkar are expected to fill in their ranks.
