Arthur Papas will hope that his side can register a win away home to end the season on a high...
Pune FC will look to put their poor campaign in the I-League to an end having won just once in their last ten matches in the competition. They face Dempo SC in a round 26 fixture at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Monday.
The Red Lizards have always finished in the top-half of the table since their promotion to the top division four seasons back. They do need to win against their Goan opponents in order to ensure that continue their record in the I-League.
Pune FC’s record against Dempo has been impeccable having won six, drawn thrice and lost only on two occasions. When the two sides met earlier in the season, the game ended in a 1-1 draw with Dempo being unlucky not to have converted several chances that came their way with Beto being the chief orchestrator.
Mike Snoei’s side confidence would have restored having beaten Hong Kong champions, Kitchee FC 2-0 in their final AFC Cup game where they were missing the services of Douhou Pierre and Calum Angus.
“It is a do or die battle for us as we push to finish in the top half of the league table and maintain the club legacy.
“The result (2-0 win against Kitchee) was a confidence-booster, but we need to follow up the historic feat with a similar result. This is something I’ve constantly been reminding the players all week long,” said Snoei.
Dempo SC come on the back of a 4-2 defeat suffered at the hands of Bengaluru FC on home soil. This will be their first game away from Goa in three months and their record on the road isn’t great having won just twice.
Beto will miss the tie due to suspension but the good news is that Tolgay Ozbey is back in contention for a start. He has been in top form having scored eight in seven matches.
