Churchill's dreadful run does not look to end as they went down again to a spirited Pune FC side...Pune FC recorded a regulation 1-0 win against struggling Churchill Brothers at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune with Calum Angus scoring the only goal from a set piece in the 52nd minute.
Mike Snoei elected to start with youngster Thongkhosem Haokip in goal with Raul Fabiani missing out due to an injury.
Meanwhile Churchill Brothers who are soon to welcome back former Technical Director, Subash Bhowmick who led them to the title last season were without their strikers, Henri Antchouet and Bineesh Balan. Balwant Singh was the chosen man to lead the line.
The Red Machines could have gone ahead as early as in the fifth minute as Hugo Machado played a delightful pass for Anthony Pereira only to see an alert Amrinder Singh come and collect the ball.
Haokip had a chance to open the scoring in the 19th minute as his header from a Douhou Pierre free-kick just sailed over the crossbar.
In the 36th minute James Meyer and Douhou combined perfectly only for the Ivorian to smash it over the bar thus wasting yet another opportunity as both teams came close to scoring with Balwant's dipping header held by Amrinder in goal.
The Red Lizards had to wait only seven minutes after the half time break to register their name on the scoreboard as star man Calum Angus smashed a perfectly taken free-kick after Denzil Franco ended up fouling Nikhil Kadam just on the edge of the box.
Just five minutes later Pune could have doubled the lead as Nikhil Kadam combined brilliantly with Douhou only for his shot to go just wide hitting the side netting. Al Kaddour who came on as a substitute had a chance to equalise after shouts of penalty on the other side allowing Churchill to break but his shot was palmed away to safety by Amrinder in goal.
Haokip had a golden chance to bury the game in the 74th minute after Nikhil Kadam's audacious effort was deflected and fell to the youngster who was inches from goal only for him to make a hash of the chance.
With the win Mike Snoei continues his wonderful start to the I-League while the Red Machines look absolutely without ideas as they are relegated to yet another defeat.
