Not many are aware that Santosh Kashyap was the u-19 coach of Mahindra United when Derrick Pereira was the head coach of the side. They hve worked closely in the past and share a good camaraderie.
It will be interesting to see Kashyap face his former colleague in an I-League as he hopes to get his side back to winning ways following three draws in as many matches. Kashyap has been one of the top coaches in this season's I-League having saved the Oilmen from relegation after their disastrous start in the league which saw Subrata Bhattacharya getting the boot.
ONGC have some talented players among their ranks such as Wahid Sali and Katsumi Yusa while their goalkeeper Rehensh TP has been top notch to say the least.
Pune FC, on the other hand, boast of a stronger squad but have been inconsistent lately. They have drawn, won and lost in their last three matches. This has been their undoing for most of the season as when it comes to capitalising on their rival's poor results, they have failed to deliver.
While the club may claim to be pleased with a top three finish, it is about time they punch above their weight and go for the title next season. Part of it also has to be attributed to their outlook as they always set out to finish in the top three, or at least that is what is said in the media.
ONGC FC: Robin Gurung and Wahid Sali are doubtful starters but are expected to make the line-up. While K Thapa and Joel Sequeria are injured.
Pune FC: Pune FC have made 5 changes to the 18-squad as Zohmingliana Ralte comes in place of Caitano Costa, Nallappan Mohanraj replaces an injured Gurjinder Kumar on the left wing position.
Likewise, in the midfield Sukhwinder Singh and Khanthang Paite make way for Arata Izumi, who returns after serving his suspension, and Vellington Rocha. The fifth change is Under-20 central midfielder Lalrempuia (for Subash Singh).
