A complete bystander for most of the first half but stayed alert enough to tip Holtby's shot onto the post. Decided punching Bale's shots was the way forward and did so effectively from two efforts from range, but never looked comfortable. Could do nothing about Dembele's fine strike.
Confidently dealt with Adebayor, marshalling his movement effectively and showing ability on the ball to bring Lyon out of deep areas. Locked the Spurs attack out of the Lyon box but could not prevent Dembele's strike from range.
Picked up where he left off in the first leg and kept both of Tottenham's wingers quiet in the first half. Pushed forward when he could until the latter stages of the game ensured he stayed back.
Stuck to Lennon like glue and put in a crucial touch as the winger looked to burst clear through the middle. Part of a defence only breached by Bale's free kicks in the first leg.
With only Adebayor to mark, the Croatian looked largely comfortable at the heart of the Lyon defence in a solid and unspectacular performance.
Shielded his defence but occasionally found the room to roam forward. On the one occasion when he found space, though, his final pass to Gomis was too strong.
Opened the scoring, stealing in front of Bale to glance a header beyond Friedel. Slotted in front of his defence and protected his back four admirably, collecting numerous stray passes.
Came into the side and displayed an excellent range of passing and a fine set-piece delivery that set up the opening goal. His snapshot was repelled by Friedel as he looked to double the hosts' lead. Impressed throughout.
Worked incredibly hard up front and did his fair share of defending as well. The service to him was not good enough and he struggled to get a sniff of goal. Subbed for Briand late on.
Had the first chance of the game but tamely headed into Friedel's arms from 10 yards. Mishit a volley later on but it was his energetic pressing and defensive work that received plenty of plaudits. Rounded Friedel but dived in trying to win a penalty.
Could do little about the goal as Gonalons glanced a header past him from six yards. Stopped a decent Lacazette shot and otherwise untroubled in the first 45. Made a fine save from Grenier in the second half with his feet before flying out of his box only to clear to Lacazette. Did well to pull his leg away from the winger as he rounded him and avoid conceding a penalty.
Committed a number of careless fouls and was sloppy in much of his play. His positioning was borderline reckless as he abandoned his backline on too many occasions. Doesn't look the full-back that he was last season.
Did surprisingly well up against Gomis and was a threat at the other end of the pitch, getting his head to a number of crosses. Piled forward when he could but lacks quality on the ball as his body ages.
Happy to take the ball off Friedel and initiate attacks but had an unimaginative midfield in front of him and out-of-form full-backs to his side. Did what he had to do defensively.
Initially started well against Lopez but quickly grew frustrated and his over-zealous attempts to get the ball out wide led to a number of soft free kicks - notably the one that led to the opening goal. Booked for pulling Umtiti back in a horror first half. Marginally improved in the second but had a forgettable game.
Carried the ball looking for openings but was either too reluctant to attempt an ambitious pass, or not precise enough when he did. Spent a lot of the game chasing the ball, and not enough of it getting forward but he expertly found the room to thunder a low shot past Vercoutre to send Spurs through.
His passing was abysmal in the first 45 minutes, guilty of ceding possession on far too many occasions. Struggled to impact the game and was often found chasing Lyon's runners from deep. Put out of his misery by Villas-Boas as Livermore replaced him.
Found it difficult to get into the game and when he did he was soundly pursued by Umtiti or Reveillere. Had a decent shout for a penalty as Lopez hauled him down but Stark waved play on. Stifled throughout, this was not his finest night.
Buzzed around and almost drew Spurs level but his left-footed shot was tipped onto the post. Tried to keep Spurs playing at a fast tempo and harried Lyon when they were in possession, subsequently breaking up play. Ran out of gas though and replaced by Sigurdsson.
Lived up to expectations in the first half, barely getting out of first gear. Failed to link up with any of Spurs' dangermen effectively until he clipped a precise cross only for Bale to miss the target. Hit the bar as he hooked the ball over his head and back into the box.
Should have been braver in marking Gonalons for the opener but turned his back leaving the Frenchman to score. Didn't have much joy in the first half despite a lung-busting run down the right. Should have equalised early in the second period but sidefooted wide from inside the box. Drew Vercoutre into two saves from range with a free kick and a vicious 25-yard drive. As expected, he remained Spurs' last hope of salvaging the tie.
