Full-time at St James' Park and Manchester City have completed a deserved victory here as goals from Aguero, Garcia and Yaya Toure have sealed the points. Newcastle had their moments and got back into the game through Ba but they couldn't force an equaliser as this defeat leaves them just two points clear of the drop zone. City meanwhile close the gap to three points on leaders Manchester United who play later today against Sunderland.
90' + 2'
CLOSE!!! Hart has to be quick off his line after he's left short by a back-pass from Kolo Toure and the keeper beats Ba to the ball just and clears the ball upfield.
90' + 2'
CHANCE!!!! Anita crosses the ball into the area and the ball somehow evades the feet of Ba and Cisse before Nastasic gets a foot to the ball and clears.
St James' Park is emptying as Newcastle just haven't had enough to match City despite having their moments in their first and second halves. They just didn't take their chances when they needed to.
City look to be seeing this one as Yaya Toure displays his strength as he holds off the challenge of Coloccini and Gutierrez as he kills time in the corner before he's helped out by Zabaleta who wins a corner.
CHANCE!!! Another chance for Aguero as he's put clear of the Newcastle defence, he runs from the halfway to the penalty area but Krul makes himself big which is enough to put the Argentine off as he skews his shot wide.
CHANCE!!!! Aguero comes so close to adding a fourth for City as he beats his man before cutting inside on his right foot and unleashing an effort at goal which goes just wide of the post with Krul desperately scrambling to his right.
Newcastle have to be careful to watch City on the break as Silva was nearly left one-on-one with Coloccini but Aguero's lofted pass was cut out by the defender.
Manchester City seem content just to play the clock out as they're keeping the ball in possession without really moving forward. Dzeko has come on and helped hold up the ball quite effectively deep in Newcastle territory.
That goal from Yaya Toure has deflated Newcastle somewhat and the noise from the home crowd has died out. City are shutting up shop adding Joleon Lescott to their defence as he replaced Tevez.
GOALL!!!!! Manchester City get their third goal and it's Yaya Toure who get's it poking the ball home from six yards from Zabaleta's low cross. Pressure told on the Newcastle defence as they'd repelled efforts from Tevez and Silva moments before but they couldn't stop the Ivorian.
CHANCE!!! Anita jinks past Clichy on the right and finds Gutierrez who whips a dangerous ball into the middle of the area but the ball takes a deflection which takes it out of the path of Ba and Cisse. That deflection could have gone anywhere.
Anita nearly catches Nastasic out at the back but he's called up by referee Andre Marriner for a foul just after he won the ball. Maybe a bit harsh but don't expect the Serbian to be doing that again with the ball as the last man.
Newcastle break forward and City have to be grateful for the covering speed of Gael Clichy as the ball is played behind the defence looking for the run of Cisse. But the Frenchman reads the situation and outpaces the striker and clears the danger.
Jonas Gutierrez tests the handling abilities of Hart from long range but the keeper is well up to the challenge and holds the ball comfortably in the wake of the advancing Ba.
CLOSE AGAIN!!!!! City play some lovely football again and the ball goes out wide to Kolarov who fires a dangerous low cross towards the back post. Coloccini sticks out a leg and diverts the ball out for a corner, but it could so have so easily ended up in the back of net.
CHANCE!!! Newcastle are finally getting their set pieces right and Ba comes so close to getting an equaliser, who knows how he's missed as he puts his half volley wide from two yards out, after City had failed to clear the danger from a corner.
CLOSE!!!! City play the ball nicely out wide to Zabaleta who makes a good run forward, he crosses the ball on the ground across the face of goal, where all it would need is a tap in, but no player in blue is in the six yard box.
Cheikh Tiote tries to replicate memories of his famous goal against Arsenal in Newcastle's 4-4 draw with the Gunners two years ago but this time his volley goes harmlessly wide of the post.
CHANCE!!!! Tevez is so close to giving City their two goal lead back as the ball is played over the top of the Newcastle defence and the Argentine races onto it, he gets free of his marker but Krul is out quickly to block his shot as he looked to lift it over the Dutchman.
Yellow CardKolo Toure
Yellow CardJames Perch
Newcastle are really upping the ante now and playing some nice football, as Simpson and Anita exchange passes on the right before the former launches a ball into the area. Ba gets a head on the ball and Hart has to scramble to beat Santon to it.
CHANCE!!!! Cisse should draw Newcastle level as he gets the ball inside the penalty area, takes a touch to control and blasts his shot well over the bar, with only Hart to beat. That was a golden opportunity for the Magpies.
CHANCE!!!! City go upfield and nearly regain their two goal advantage as Silva pokes the ball through a crowd of players and finds Kolarov who shoots first time but Krul is on hand to save his low effort.
GOALL!!!!! Newcastle are back in this game and it's Ba whose got the goal as he heads the ball past Hart into the top corner from Coloccini's hopeful ball back into the area, as every City defence stopped allowing the striker a free header.
CHANCE!!! The Magpies go close again this time Santon's effort goes just wide of the post and into the side netting, after he drove the length of the field and fired a right-footed shot at goal.
CHANCE!!!! Ba heads over as he just can't get on top of the ball to direct it downwards from Tiote's deep cross from the right. The Senegalese striker beat Zabaleta in the air but in the end his team-mate's ball just too high for him.
Newcastle threaten straight away as they win a free kick and Hart has to be alert to beat Ba in the air and punch the ball to safety.
We're back underway at St James' Park.
Our man, Matt Scott, at St James' Park reports: "It's been an odd first half at St James' Park. While Manchester City have attacked well and taken a couple of chances well, they have Joe Hart to thank for their lead. The England man made a great save in just the second minute, also keeping out a volley from Mike Williamson when the champions had just a one-goal lead. Alan Pardew will be encouraged by some of his side's attacking play, but their defending has been catastophic at times."
45' + 3'
Half-time at St James' Park and Manchester City lead 2-0 and it could have been more if City had their shooting boots on as they've been so impressive in the final third of the pitch with David Silva and Samir Nasri running the show. City will be disappointed with the injury to the Frenchman which forced him off before the break but it didn't appear to stifle their momentum. Newcastle have a lot of work to do as bar they first 10 minutes they've been totally outplayed.
45' + 2'
Newcastle's high defensive line maybe the reason they've been so exposed in this game. As this time it comes to their rescue as Kolarov is flagged just as when he was about to cross for Tevez who was unmarked in the penalty area.
Another Newcastle cross into the area which has been poor this time from a corner, and it's easily dealt with by the City defence and cleared.
There's been a few stoppages in the first half and now Ba is the latest to go down with an apparent injury. We could be looking at a substantial amount of injury time at the end of the half.
Newcastle again looked shell shocked as they've just been blown away by City in this first half. They're struggling for momentum now but the crowd in St James' Park appear to be sticking with their team.
GOALL!!!! City doubled their lead as Garcia rises highest from the corner to head past Krul while the ball seems to have hit Santon, who was on the line, on its way to net. It's no more than they deserve as they've been outstanding in the final third.
CHANCE!!! City break upfield again with Silva and Tevez, the Spaniard feeds his team-mate and the Argentine fires an effort which Krul makes a save with his foot, albeit a little touch which is enough to divert the ball away and out for a corner.
Yellow CardSergio Agüero
It looks as thought Samir Nasri maybe more hurt than originally thought as he seems to have injured his groin. He's being replaced by Aleksandar Kolarov, which is a blow for City as he's been outstanding this half.
Stoppage in play at the moment as Samir Nasri has taken a blow in lets say a delicate area after colliding with James Perch.
Newcastle are getting back into this game after a period of 10 minutes when they couldn't touch the ball. They seemed to have regained their composure from the opening minutes.
CHANCE!! Demba Ba shoots from distance and his effort goes just over the bar. Newcastle need to get their frontmen into the game a lot more than they have.
Newcastle add another free kick to their tally this half but again City hold firm. The delivery hasn't troubled the visitors defence but you can't help feel they can't keep giving the Magpies these opportunities.
CHANCE!!!! Aguero misses the target and he really should have doubled City's lead as he's teed up again by Nasri. The Frenchman finds space on the right again and knocks the ball back to the Argentine who strikes first time but fires wide.
Yellow CardDanny Simpson
CHANCE!!! Joe Hart makes another excellent save this time diving to his right to stop Williamson's low effort from creeping into the corner. The England keeper was at full stretch but he just got his hands to it and City clear the danger.
Another Newcastle free kick could have disastrous consequences for the home side as Anita plays the ball short to Tiote, whose cross is charged down by Nasri. Tevez breaks upfield but before he can release the ball to Aguero, Tiote makes a great challenge tracking back.
Newcastle clear the danger from a corner and break upfield but Ba just overhits his pass to Cisse who was through on goal and Hart scoops up the ball before the striker can latch onto his team-mate's pass.
OFF THE POST!!!!! Nasri somehow misses the target as he pokes the ball against the post from two yards out after Silva again had the Newcastle defence all over the place with his trickery inside the area. The Spaniard's follow up was then well blocked by Williamson as the ball looked destined for the net.
More lovely football from City as Nasri and Silva exchange passes on the edge of the penalty area, Silva moves into the box and looks to find Tevez but this time Mike Williamson is on hand to intercept the ball.
Roberto Mancini's side are in their stride now and have disrupted Newcastle's early rhythm. Nasri has had all the time in the world on the right on more than one occasion to deliver a threatening ball into the area.
Yellow CardMike Williamson
CHANCE!!! City almost go in again as the ball goes wide again to Nasri on the right and he lifts a cross towards the back post where Aguero tries to meet the ball, but he just can't get a foot on it and it goes out for a goal kick.
CHANCE!!! David Silva twists and turns inside the Newcastle penalty area and finds Sergio Aguero with a lovely ball into the middle. The Argentine controls and shoots but Krul makes an excellent stop.
Newcastle try to respond to City's goal but look a bit shell shocked as their passing isn't as crisp as it was in the opening minutes of the game.
GOALLL!!!!! Manchester City take the lead completely against the run of play as Sergio Aguero strikes from close range into an empty net converting Nasri's pass. The Frenchman drifted out wide on the left and was put through by Yaya Toure but the midfielder may have been offside when the ball was played.
City finally get a foot on the ball and Carlos Tevez thinks he's through on goal after being put through by Nasri but he's flagged offside as he pulls the trigger.
Kolo Toure has given three free kicks away so far after another heavy challenge on Ba. Fortunately for the Ivorian, City deal with the cross into their area more convincingly this time around.
Yet another free kick to Newcastle and Anita takes it again and the ball lands dangerously inside the six yard box but no Newcastle player can get anything on the ball and it's collected by Hart.
CHANCE!!! Joe Hart makes another great save this time to stop Jonas Gutierrez's corner from creeping in at the near post. The keeper just manages to get a fist to the ball to knock it to safety.
Newcastle win a free kick on the half way line, as they look to put City under more pressure, but Williamson is beaten in the air by Nastasic and Nasri clears the danger.
CHANCE!!!! What a save by Joe Hart. The England international gets down low to his right to deny Papiss Cisse after his low effort looked to be creeping into the bottom corner of the net.
Strong start by Newcastle as they're keeping the ball well in possession and driving up the pitch towards the Manchester City goal.
We're underway at St James' Park.
