The two teams have lost their opening games and would be keen to amends on Saturday...
Mumbai FC went down by a solitary goal defeat to Mohun Bagan in their first group C match, while a win on Saturday will keep them in contention to progress to the semi-finals of the Federation Cup.
Khalid Jamil’s side didn’t have a poor outing against Bagan as things could have turned out differently for them had Yusif Yakubu, Henry Ezeh and Ahmad Hatifie been more clinical.
Although some of their players certainly have to rise to the occasion such as NP Pradeep and Ashutosh Mehta. Physically not many teams can win the battle against them as set-pieces works to their advantage – something which they need to start making count.
Meanwhile, Salgaocar FC were thrashed by four goals to nil by Shillong Lajong FC who play Bagan in the earlier fixture of the day.
“We are in the not in the best moment. The goal that we conceded, we shouldn’t have. We didn’t create chances and it played on the players’ minds.
“Mentally we didn’t show our character. We need to pull up our socks against Mumbai FC,” said coach Derrick Pereira.
While the coach may have got his observations correct, the players need to raise their performance if they have any hopes of making it into the final four.
The likes of Matthew Foschini and Chika Wali need to prove their mettle at the back as they were hardly seen putting in tackles in order to half the opposition’s attack.
Salgaaocar do keep the ball for long but fail to create chances. Darryl Duffy too hasn’t been in the best of form and the Scottish striker needs to find his bearings soon.
