Mumbai FC have well and truly turned their season around. Tipped to being a contender for relegation, Khalid Jamil's men have showed remarkable fighting spirit despite not having the financial muscle and quality that other I-League teams possess.
It once again has highlighted Jamil's ability to make optimum use of the resources he has. The Mumbaikars have lost only once in their last 8 games which included a 2-1 win over Kolkata powerhouse East Bengal. They now face the league's pace-setters Dempo SC who earned a crucial away win at Kolkata against Pailan Arrows. Jamil's men will be looking to upset the odds once again and go into the New Year the happier team.
Armando Colaco's Dempo again showed their grittier side to the team as they came away from Kolkata after beating Pailan Arrows 2-1 courtesy a brace from Joaquim Abranches. Their title aspirations were given a shot in the arm as East Bengal slumped to a loss against Mumbai FC.
Dempo will now hope that they too do not become victims of Mumbai FC when they face them in their Round 13 I-League fixture on Sunday. It will be a match of constrasting styles as Dempo are one of the few teams who advocate possession football while Mumbai FC employ a more direct approach to harness the power of their strikers.
Mumbai FC– Darren Caldeira has been ruled out for three weeks or so as he suffered an injury on his back in the tie against East Bengal. Subhash Chakraborty is expected to start in his place.
Dempo SC – Anthony Pereira, Mahesh Gawli, Ryuji Sueoka, and Cresson Antao are doubtful for this game due to injuries. Rohan Ricketts has been suspended for launcing a tirade against Armando Colaco on Twitter.
