Mohun Bagan 2-1 Shillong Lajong is the final score! This was Atanu Mitra reporting from the venue for the last 90 minutes. For this season, thank you and goodbye from my side. Stay tuned to Goal!
90' + 3'
Milan Singh sends in a pinpoint free-kick, but Michol failed to place it on target. What was the Bagan defense doing?
90' + 1'
We are into injury time now as Glen once again tries to power his way into Bagan box, but Kingshuk comes out on top now.
Horrible defending from Aibor, as he completely missed a header and Glen had not probably expected it as he couldn't time his header. That was more dangerous than it sounded.
Shankar Oraon has come in for Christopher now.
Just when I was saying, Mohun Bagan create two brilliant openings. First it was Christopher who was running towards Minchol, but the Shillong defender wins the battle as he clears the ball easily. The second move was easier to parry and Mohun Bagan couldn't convert any of them.
Nothing much happening in the ground now as both the teams have flooded the midfield.
Mohun Bagan spare a nightmare following a diving save from Shilton. Lajong had a corner, but nothing comes out of it.
Lajong is going for the kill again as they create a couple of moves, but fail to have anything out of it.
Goal Christopher Chizoba
GOAALLL! Christopher gives Bagan the lead! A solo run from the midfield and Jibon Singh had to stop him just outside the box. However, an ill-timed tackle from the defender sets him free and a powerful finish ends the season on a sweet note for Christopher. He looks super happy here!
HITS THE POST! SABEETH! After receiving a lofted ball from the midfield, Sabeeth gave only a touch to the ball to try an overhead lob and it goes over Ralte only to hit the near post and go out.
A corner kick for Bagan and after a short corner, the ball is played to Christopher, who couldn't connect it well enough to trouble Ralte between the sticks.
Yellow Card Cornell Glen
Yellow Card Denson Devadas
After a prolonged spat between the footballers of two teams, Glena nd Denson have been booked. It all started when Taisuke fouled Shilton, but that escalated quickly and at least 10 players were involved.
MISS! After being fed with a sublime ball on the right flank, Christopher failed to shoot on target, as he had run into an acute angle that didn't help hi m much.
After spending some time on the turf, Katsumi has been strechered off and Bikramjit Singh comes in his place.
Glen tries to dribble past the Bagan defenders, but Yusa snatches the ball well. He then surprisingly plays it to Taisuke, but the later also made a mess of it as the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
Goal Boithang Haokip
GOAALL! BOITHANG HAOKIP STRIKES! He came on only a minute ago, but after receiving a long pass from midfield, he took on the Bagan defense brilliantly to run deep into the box and took a powerful shot that hit the roof of the net, giving Shilton Paul little chance to parry it.
COSTLY ERROR! NOT PUNISHED! Milan Singh plays a horrible misspass to Christopher just outside the box, who plays it to Yusa on turn, but the Japanese couldn't control the pace and Ralte has the ball.
The pace has gone down a bit after the frantic start post the breather. Glen looking very very hungry but has been outnumbered in the Bagan box.
DRAMA! GOAL DISALLOWED AGAIN! Taisuke does something that Eto'o has tried a couple of times this season. He wears an invisible cloak and appears just when Shilton drops the ball to take the goalkick. He easily claims the ball and sends it into the net, but the referee has denied the goal. He also books the Japanese for arguing.
Yellow Card Taisuke Matsugane
WHAT A CHANCE! Glen gets the better of two defenders and goes inside the Bagan box, but with only Shilton to beat, pulls off a tame effort that goes straight into the gloves of the Bagan captain.
SUBASH SINGH HITS THE POST! After Taisuke played the ball to Subash, he pulled the trigger from distance and timed it perfectly, but was unlucky enough to see it get denied by the horizontal. What an effort by the Lajong man.
GOAL DISALLOWED ONCE AGAIN! RIGHTLY SO! Yusa's center from the wing was headed well in a crowded area by Kingshuk probably, but the rebound fell to Sabeeth almost on the goal-line and he had no option but to slot it home. However, he was ahead of all defenders when the first header was taken and it's a clear offside.
After the first move by Lajong, that saw Glen failing to receive the ball, Bagan earn a corner on the left.
Here we go!
I've been Atanu Mitra, reporting live from the stadium. Stay tuned as another exciting half of football beckons.
The players are coming out once again for the last half of football they will play in this season. Will Karim have a sweet farewell? Will Glen add to his account to go on top of the highest scorers' list?
We take a 5 minute break here before the action resumes again. Stay tuned!
Brilliant half of football as both the teams have created enough chances to make it look like a tennis match scoreline. The finishing has been poor for the hosts, but they have controlled proceedings from the start of the match. Katsumi has been brilliant, but Pankaj and Ujaal are the stars of the show.
Half Time Scoreline: Mohun Bagan 1-0 Shillong Lajong.
45' + 1'
Taisuke brings down Katsumi just outside the box and Bagan have a free-kick from a brilliant position, even inside the D-box. However, Christopher stepped up to take it and his shot floated over the bar.
WHAT A CHANCE! HORRIBLE MISS! Christopher had played a gem of a square pass to Sabeeth who made ample space for himself to shoot, but more power and less finesse to the ball past the far post.
CHANCE! Tuboi wasted! Niwano Gatpoh had found Tuboi unmarked at the edge of the box and the Lajong midfielder made a brilliant turning. He however, failed to keep his shot on target and another chance was wasted.
Christopher has gone down now and has to be strechered off! Can he continue any longer?
Mohun Bagan managing to invade the opponent box every alternate minute almost, but their finishing has been much below par.
CHANCE! BAD BAD MISS! After Sabeeth had run towards the Lajong box under little pressure, he played the ball to Christopher but the Nigerian failed to place his shot from 8 yards under almost no challenge. That was a horrible miss.
MISS! NO OFFSIDE! Corlenn Glen was left with acres of space ahead of him after he received it following an error by the linesman, who denied to raise his flag. However, he took an instant shot and it went past the far post, without troubling Shilton Paul. The Bagan skipper however is angry and is shouting towards the assistant referee.
Good string of passes put together by Bagan, who had started the attack by Christopher playing a pass to Ujjal. He played it to Pritam, whose center was dangerous and had to be headed backwards by Lallawmzuala.
Play resumes after a short break as Yusa Katsumi was receiving medical attention on the ground.
Yellow Card Christopher Chizoba
Another good attack by the Shillong attacking line, but after receiving Glen's pass, Tuboi was marked well by Kotal and the Bagan defender eventually got the hold of the ball.
The pace is impressive in the game and the sun has also gone down. Bagan still dominating the proceedings, but Shillong has looked dangerous on the break.
WHAT A CHANCE! Yusa Katsumi takes the help of his blistering pace to get the better of the whole defense line and goes on a one-on-one position. He then plays a square pass to the onrushing Christopher, but the Nigerian couldn't connect a shot as he had already crossed the ball. The kind of goal they try to score in FIFA, but the chance went down begging.
GOAL DISALLOWED! RIGHTLY SO! After the game was halted for a minute for the treatment of Sabeeth, Christopher once again orchestrated a brilliant move that saw Yusa Katsumi slot the ball home from a yard distance after an initial effort was thwarted by Ralte. The Japanese, however, was offside and the goal is not counted.
Much happening in the middle! Corlenn Glen went under a challenge just outside the Bagan box, but the referee weaved play on. A pass on the other end had set Sabeeth in a brilliant position, but MINCHOL SON pulled off a brilliant challenge to send the ball to the goalkeeper.
Yellow Card Pritam Kotal
Two consecutive bookings in two minutes. In the second instance, Pratap denied to play advantage from a brilliant position and had to take out his card to justify his decision. Very soft challenge got punished there.
Yellow Card Lalramluaha Hmar
SHOT! SABEETH NOW! The shot was from inside the box, but missed the target for a couple of feet.
Brilliant start from Mohun Bagan, who are riding high on the pace of their two wingers. Denson has won a few good balls in the midfield as well.
ANOTHER CHANCE! Lallawmzuala wonderfully cleared a Bagan attack from the left for a corner and from the resulting flag-kick, Ralte failed to gather the ball at the first go and it fell to Kingshuk in a melee. However, there was not enough space to shoot and the ball goes to the opponent custodian after some clumsy defending.
Goal Pankaj Moula
GOAALL! PANKAJ MOULA SLOTS IN A BRILLIANT CROSS FROM UJJAL HAWLADAR! Yusa and Fanai were vying for the ball inside the Lajong box, but both went on the floor on the process. Ujjal arrived at the spot and crossed the loose ball to the far post, where Pankaj managed to dive towards the goal and put the ball into the back of the net!
Three consecutive attacks, two from Bagan, one from Shillong. Bagan's move included a penalty appeal from Sabeeth after he went down in the box under slight pressure from Son. The referee was not interested.
CHANCE! WHAT A START! Christopher play a neat one two with Sabeeth before going into the Lajong box, but a last ditch tackle saves the day for the travellers.
Mohun Bagan start the game in blistering pace with Denson showing some skill out of the opponent box, but Pritam's cross lacked power.
As Pratap Singh blows the whistle, Christopher and Sabeeth play a pass among themselves to start the proceedings. Game on!
This is Atanu Mitra, seated at the Salt Lake Stadium of Kolkata on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon to bring you all the live updates from the game. Stay tuned as the action is only moments away now.
The players have come out of the tunnel and are lining up for the pre-match hand-shakes. It’s another low turnout in the venue, but it has become a salient feature of Kolkata football by now.
Thangboi Singto has also made three changes to his side with Passah, Robin, Uilliams making way for Jibon Singh, Lallawmzuala and Niwano Gaptoh having their share of first team action.
Karim has made three changes to the team that played out a goalless draw against United Sports. Ichezona is suspended, Odafa Okolie has been released and Zakeer Mundampara has been dropped. Aibor, Ujaal Hawladar and Sabeeth have been included in their place.
Shillong Lajong: Ralte, Jibon Singh, Minchol Son, Lalchhuanmawia, Lallawmzuala, Lalramluaha, Matsugae, Seikhohoa Tuboi, Subhash, Niwano Gatpoh, Glen.
Mohun Bagan: Shilton, Pritam, Aibor, Kingshuk, Shouvik, Denson, Ujjal Hawaladar, Katsumi, Pankaj Moula, Sabeeth, Christopher.
We have received the line-ups in the press-box and without further ado, we bring you the names.
However, with Karim Bencherifa set to leave the Mariners after the match, the players will certainly try to give their coach a memorable win against the hill side. For the away side, Cornell Glen will try to repeat his heroics once again to strengthen the bid of ending his campaign as the highest scorer of the season.
Hello and welcome to Goal’s live coverage of the I-League as we enter the final game-week of a long season that unfurled a number of twists and turns on every match-day. With the champions already decided and both Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong having little to play for, this may well look like a inconsequential encounter.
