Can the Green and Maroon continue their rich vein of form against Thangboi Singto's men?

Mohun Bagan will face Shillong Lajong in an I-League encounter this Thursday, which will have a large impact on the bottom placed teams, who are currently under the threat of being relegated.

The Mariners seem to have found their form with Karim Bencherifa's influence finally bearing fruits. They have lost just once in their last 15 competetive matches which was also in a penalty shootout against East Bengal.

They eased past Pailan Arrows in the previous game as they had a three goal lead after 20 minutes but suffered due to the extreme temperatures in the second half and conceded two goals thereafter.

Tolgay Ozbey has received a lot of flak for having joined Mohun Bagan over the summer from arch rivals East Bengal. Injuries have crippled his season but his two goals against the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) developmental side shall certainly boost his confidence.

Despite the widespread criticism of their defence, Aibor Khongjee and Anyichie Ichezona have provided some stability at the back. Quinton Jacobs has continued to impress in the midfield since his move from Salgaocar.

Speaking of Shillong Lajong, they have managed a mere 20 points from their 21 games. They would be pleased with the display of their new recruit from Blackburn Rovers in Edinho Junior who scored a brace on debut away from home against Pune FC.

Lajong do need a couple of wins in order to move away from the drop zone as there isn't much gap between the bottom placed teams and them.

Mohun Bagan: Nirmal Chettri is expected to be back for the tie. Denson Devadas will be unavailable after picking up four yellow cards. Odafa Okolie hasn't yet recovered and it remains to be seen what role Bencherifa gives him.

Shillong Lajong: Lalramluaha will be unavailable due to suspension after picking up four yellow cards. Other than him, all the regular players are expected to start. Edinho will be their trump card upfront.

  • Had Mohun Bagan not faced the point deduction, they would have 21 points from their 16
    games played.
  • Shillong Lajong has a goal difference of -15. Only United Sikkim has a worse goal difference (-
  • Edinho Junior was part of the Blackburn Rovers squad with the likes of Nuno Gomes and
    Paul Robinson.
