After bagging only a point from the last two fixtures, the Mariners will be hoping to win full points...
Mohun Bagan will host Rangdajied United in an I-League match to be played in the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday.
The Mariners’ problems upfront are very much apparent given that they have scored just a single goal in their last four matches. Odafa Okolie looks far from being fit with a visible belly and that has affected his performances as the Nigerian has been wasteful in front of goal. Of course he was injured and will take time to come back to his best form but the lack of depth in Bagan squad and the over dependence on their skipper is evident.
Eric Muranda, despite the pace he has, is yet to hit top gear with Bagan. He has found life difficult at the Kolkata outfit as he is struggling to score. Katsumi Yusa hasn’t been good either with him on a different wavelength than the rest of his team-mates which often leads in them losing possession.
Unlike the last few seasons, Bagan’s rearguard has been solid especially with the addition of Shouvik Ghosh and Pritam Kotal who are being deployed as full-backs.
Denson Devadas hasn’t been at his creative best while Adil Khan has struggled to adapt to football in Kolkata after a successful spell with Sporting Clube de Goa in the past.
Karim Bencherifa however sounded very cautious speaking about his team's plans in the match. "A single win can take us out of this stressed situation. Rangadajied is a new unit after signing the IMG-Reliance players and I expect it to be a tough match. Especially you have to give importance to players like Subrata Paul, Gouramangi Moirangthem and Manandeep Singh," said Bencherifa.
Rangdajied United have certainly improved following the addition of players from IMG-Reliance and that has reflected in their performance with back-to-back draws against Shillong Lajong and Mumbai FC.
They gave a decent account of themselves against Mumbai FC and should have picked up three points had it not been for their profligacy upfront. David Nghaite seems to be an exciting young talent who doesn’t fear taking on players. It will be an interesting battle for him to do well against a team whose defensive organization is commendable.
Coach Santosh Kashyap will be looking to heap more misery on the side he coached at the start of last season after being unceremoniously dumped after a poor Federation Cup campaign.
Mohun Bagan have 11 points from the 10 matches played and are in the ninth spot, while Rangdajied are yet to register in a win this term with five points from their ten matches.
