The Kolkata outfit needs a victory in their kitty to move away from the bottom two and ease relegation pressures…
Mohammedan Sporting play in the comforts of their home when they host Salgaocar FC in an I-League clash on Saturday.
Sanjoy Sen’s side are coming off a 2-0 loss against Pune FC which leaves his side in 12th position which is one of the relegation spots. They have amassed only 13 points, but managed to win the IFA Shield recently.
They have been winless in their last six league fixtures and do need to add points if they are to survive relegation.
“We will not give any excuses. The right team won and there is no question about it. However unlike knockout matches where you are out after a bad performance, we can get back to a good position in the league by winning one or two matches and that will be our target,” said coach Sanjoy Sen.
Josimar Martins put in a poor shift against Pune FC and is likely to miss the tie against Salgaocar due to a back injury.
Salgaocar FC returned to winning ways as the addition of Dudu Omagbemi has certainly lifted their spirit. The Nigerian scored the only goal of the game against Mohun Bagan which gave them a winning start after the winter break. If Dudu manages to combine well with top scorer Daryll Duffy (8 goals), Mohammedan will have a tough time.
More importantly, the Greens didn’t concede which was certainly a marked improvement in their game.
“The win over Mohun Bagan was very, very important. We went seven matches without a win and after the break we were starting all over again so it was vital to get a good result,” said coach Derrick Pereira.
The last time these two sides met, Salgaocar ran away as 3-0 winners, but expect a different game this time around.
