Full Time Scoreline: Mohammedan Sporting 0-0 Dempo Sports Club. I have been Atanu Mitra and thank you all for following the live commentary. I will be back again tomorrow as Mohun Bagan face Rangdajied United. Until next time, goodbye!
90' + 6'
They needed an hour to take a shot. After moments of procrastination, Ajay Singh takes the shot, but it went well over the bar. Another Josimar shot also saved.
90' + 5'
Nothing from the corner as well, and on the other end Mohammedan has a corner.
90' + 4'
Only moments left for the game to end now. In the meantime, Dempo has a shot on target, but Gabriel's shot is cleared for a corner.
90' + 2'
90' + 2'
Another Mohammedan chance, but Kattimani on top of the world. Comes out of his line to deny Josimar of a header. 5 minutes of extra time added.
A frantic last few minutes of the game now. Both teams pressing on the accelerator to snatch the goal.
LUCIANO! What a tackle! he saves Mohammedan's day denying an onrushing Jeje to claim the ball. Brilliant from the defender.
WHAT A CHANCE! Josimar's header from a corner was held safely by Kattimany after a tailor-made tackle from Dempo resulted in Penn Orji lose the ball for a corner.
Collin does a mess-up and clears a harmless ball for a corner. No harm from the corner though.
After another short span of passing among themselves, Jeje takes a shot, but it was easy for Barreto to save his fort.
Another OFFSIDE! This time Josimar! His chip, though went over the post.
Yellow Card Luciano Sabrosa
Luciano Sobrosa goes into the referee's book after an open-stud tackle in the middle of the pitch.
Dempo has been far more creative, but lacked a big fiure in front of goal. That's where you need quality foreigners.
ANOTHER PENALTYB APPEAL DENIED! THIS TIME IT LOOKED LIKE A PENALTY! Jeje probably handled the ball in his area after the Mohammedan corner but nothing from the referee. The crowd is going erserk here.
Clifford wastes the chance and in the counter attack, Josimar is supplied a great ball by Penn. BUT WHAT A TACKLE BY SELWYN! The best tackle of the match robs Josimar off the ball and correctly, the referee didn't award a spot-kick, much to the agony of the home fans.
After almost 200 second of no action, we are now back to action again. Penn concedes a foul near the Mohammedan box and Dempo has a free-kick from a good position.
Play has been stopped by the match commissioner, probably due to crackers being hurled. From the press box, nothing can be said surely.
Ambitious Ashim! The striker now takes a powerful shot from outside the box but the shot was inches wide from the post. Good effort.
Ashim Biswas and his old golden moves! The ace striker shows his tricks and plays the ball to the left, but the move is cleared away for a corner.
Tolgay is now back in the bench after changng his kit to a casual tee. Mohammedan on attack now.
Dempo trying to build up from deep positions here. Jeje is offside and that spoils the move.
Nirmal Chettri with a daunting run down the left and sends in a cross, only to be cleared away by the travelling backline. The corner is also to no result as Luciano Sobrosa's header was tame.
Ashim with almost an instant reply, but in the end fails to reach the ball after being heavily closed down by two Dempo bodies.
And TOLGAY is taken off here. He doesn't wait for a moment and walks down the tunnel in place of sitting on the bench. Frustrated he will surely feel. Ashim Biswas, the veteran local player injected into action.
TOLGAY! CHANCE! SAVE! After Anthony Soren feeds him with a gem of a pass, the striker fails to make out enough of it and his shot was saved well by Kattimani, who came slightly off his line to narrow down the angle. He is at his best today.
Tolgay Ozbey once again finds himself heavily marked as Narayan Das comes to the rescue of the visiting team.
Dempo with a quick shock theapy for the Mohammedan here but they should have not wasted that chance.
ALWYN REPEATS WHAT TOLGAY DID BEFORE THE BREAK! After the corner, the ball went to the other end untouched and the next delivery fell in front of Alwyn who squanders the golden chance to claim the elusive lead for his side. I however feel, that the ball was a fraction of an inch higher and that resulted in George failing to connect it.
EARLY CHANCE! After a half-hearted clearance by the Mohammedan defense, Alwyn George doesn't feel shy to unleash a powerful shot but Luis Barreto was alert and fists it away for a corner.
And we are off here!
The players are coming out of the tunnel here. The action is only moments away now.
Coco Jumbo, one of our fans is complaining about the midfield position Holicharan is playing. You can also let us know your views. I am available in the handle @Atanu00 on twitter.
We take a 5 minute break here and will be back before the action resumes.
Half Time Scoreline: Mohammedan Sporting 0-0 Dempo. Both the teams have lacked ideas in front of goal, but that miss from Tolgay Ozbey was the best chance of the day. On a whole, a drab and insipid half of football.
And the corner is cleared away easily and the resulting counter-attack by Mohammedan is spoiled by a Penn Orji offside.
Clifford has a talk with Kattimani here. He should have called for the ball. in the other end, Dempo has a corner.
OH TOLGAY OZBEY! HOW DID YOU MISS THAT! After a delivery by Ishfaq Ahmed in the penalty box, Selwyn Fernandes messed it up completely and headed a goalkeeper's ball backwards and it fell straight to Tolgay's feet. With the entire breadth of the goal at his mercy, he volleys it over the post. BAD BAD MISS!
And as Ishfaq Ahmed is allegedly brought down by a Dempo defender, crackers start to go off. No foul given though.
Yellow Card Holicharan Narzary
Holicharan Narzary becomes the first player to go into the referee's book after pulling off an ill-timed challenge near the sidelines. Umesh Bora was not shy to take out his card.
CLIFFORD! The veteran pulls the trigger from 35 yards out but his shot went high above the post throwing no challenge to Luis Barreto.
Dempo have played very well in short patches, when their delivery and diagonal balls have been brilliant. However, they have failed to cash on their own credit, giving away the ball far too easily.
TOLGAY! The forward gallops down the right well in his usual fashion and unleashes a powerful shot, but Kattimani was alert enough to hold it safely. First exciting action of the day.
Nothing comes out of the corner as Josimar fails to reach the ball and Tolgay's delivery from the other wing was too fast to be headed by Luciano Sobrosa.
JOSIMAR! The Brazilian dodges Narayan to run to the edge of the box, but there was nobody inside the box to help him out. Mohammedan claim a corner here.
Alwyn once again tries to work it down the down flank, but Nirmal Chettri was in his spot to deny him an entry-pass to the Mohammedan penalty box.
Holicharan and Alwyn have paired up well just like their Pailan Arrows days to keep the Mohammedan defense under pressure. But then it's never easy to outplay Luciano Sobrosa.
A drab encounter so far. Only good point is that Dempo has relied on their usual short passing game even in hard time, quite unlike Mohammedan, who have resorted to long balls.
OH TOLGAY OZBEY! He had the ball in an advantegeous position from a melee but wastes the chance but his header, which was also his first touch to latch on to the ball is very bad and no worry for Selwyn who spoils the move.
Tolgay Ozbey got a good ball from the defense and start running with it, but his second touch was bad and he bad and Dempo has the possession now. On the other hand, Dempo is being allowed a lot of space in the midfield by the Black and Whites.
Dempo playing their usual short passing game. Some good work by Holicharan, Jewel in the midfield but the move comes to nothing.
Not much action in the game as neither side able to seize the initiative so far.
Penn Orji has tried to work his way out through the middle of the Dempo defense, but to little result.
The young Dempo midfield has taken the left wing to attack the Mohammedan citadel. Collin looking a bit clumsy, but fast enough to make up his small goof-ups.
Roberto Mendes Da Silva
And the worst that could have happened for Dempo! Beto goes off for injury and makes way for the promising Jeje.
The resulting corner goes out for nothing as Pronay heads it out to parry the danger. Beto is struggling here.
Mohammedan claim a corner here! Great delivery from the flag-kick, but the Dempo defense was alert enough to stop Nirmal Chettri from nodding in the ball.
Mohammedan slowing picking up the pace here. Penn Orji goes down near the penalty box, but no foul given.
Holicharan is ambitious and takes a shot from distance and Luis Barreto holds it well before a Dempo player reaches the scene. Hold ON! That's Alwyn George! He was nowhere in the team sheet! I can't see Peter Carvalho on the pitch. AND also I take back my round of applause!
Beto is down with an injury in the sidelines and is seeking medical attention. Jeje is up and starts warming up.
Josimar works the ball well after dribbling past a defender but his touch lets him down and the ball goes out for a goalkick.
Dempo has its share of early possession. Holicharan fools Collin but Mehraj was alert a his backpass averts the danger.
Collin sends in a long ball for Tolgay in the first move, but Dempo defense was alert to clear. In the counter, Beto tries to dribble, but his bad first touch spoils the move.
As Umesh Bora blows the whistle, we are off! Game on in Kolkata.
The players are going through the pre-match handshakes here. Only moments left for the action to start. Josimar wearing the captain's armband for the home side.
I am Atanu Mitra and I will be taking you through the action for the next 90 minutes. You can also follow me on twitter on @Atanu00
Quite unlike the other days, Mohammedan has sent the team line-up early in the pressbox. A round of applause for them.
The players are coming out of the tunnel and only a few minutes left to the kick-off.
Another notable point is that, Laxmikant Kattimani is starting between the sticks for the Golden Eagles, with Subhasish featuring on the bench.
Four Pailan Arrows players in the first eleven for Dempo: Prabir Das, Holicharan Narzary, Narayan Das and Pronay Halder. Alwyn George left on the bench with the Indian international Jeje Lalpekhlua.
I can also spot a supporter wearing a Newcastle United jersey. The Mohammedan kit is quite close to the Toons' jersey.
Dempo has only one foreigner in their first 18 and no prizes for guessing the name. Beto will continue to work as their midfield lynchpin.
Nirmal Chettri is making his debut for Mohammedan Sporting today, only a couple of days after putting his pen to paper to join one of the oldest clubs of India. Quite surprisingly, Collin Abranches, the regular right-back of the team has also earned a start.
Josimar Martins, the Brazilian striker of the Black and Whites makes his return to the first team action after missing out in the last match. He will pair up with the Australian forward Tolgay Ozbey upfront.
Arthur Papas has not travelled with the Dempo side due to his personal problems and it remains to be seen whether the team can cope with the pressure in his absence.
In Mohammedan’s last I-League appearance back in 2008-09, Dempo had beaten them in both the legs. Can Mohammedan take the revenge against a much weakened Golden Eagles?
Now, about the visitors, the Goan giants have taken time to settle down under their new coach Arthur Papas. They have registered only two wins in their 10 fixtures and are still in jeopardy with the new Arrows players taking time to gel properly in the squad. Beto M. Silva, however, has been the most consistent performer of the season quite predictably and will continue to build up on his form that won him the Man of the Match award in the last match against Pune FC.
Mohammedan Sporting, who got the promotion this year, have experienced a roller-coaster ride in this year’s league and will now try to turn their performance graph upwards after two consecutive draws in the same venue. The team has scored only 2 goals in their last two outings and will try to turn the tide in their way against a struggling Dempo outfit.
Hello and welcome to Goal’s live coverage of the I-League as Mohammedan Sporting is all set to play host to Dempo in the Saltlake Stadium of Kolkata today.
