The defending champions continue their search for first full points of the season...

Mohammedan Sporting and Churchill Brothers played out a drab goal-less draw at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Saturday in a round ten I-League match.

Mehrajuddin Wadoo made his first start in the I-League this season for Mohammedan Sporting after the rules for registration were relaxed. Churchill Brothers’ latest recruit, namely striker Yasser Shahen started for the Goan side.

And the Syrian striker didn’t take long to be involved in the thick of action as his shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Luis Barreto after the former was found by Bineesh Balan.

Subhash Bhowmick was forced into an early substitution after Naveen Kumar injured himself and in came Sanjay Balmuchu.

The two teams had a thing in common with regards to their passing which was poor to say the least. Neither could hold on to the possession and would give away the ball cheaply.

In the 23rd minute, Josimar headed the ball for Tolgay Ozbey in the box but the Australian failed to get past the Churchill defenders and instead opted to move the ball backwards and thereby killing off the opening.

Just after the half hour mark, Penn Orji took a shot which was tame and went straight into the hands of Arindam Bhattacharya.

After the break, Ozbey send in a diagonal ball for Israil Gurung but the latter was in an offside position.

Ozbey had another shot on goal which was a bit venomous but parried away by Bhattacharya for a corner in the 65th minute.

Ajay Singh was injured in a clash of heads and thereby had to be taken to a hospital for a medical check-up in an ambulance.

The play was boring and the home side’s fans began hurling bottles towards Bhowmick when he came out of the bench for the first time.

Orji tried to create a couple of openings towards the death but not much came of them. The score-line remained the same until the final whistle.
