Bengaluru FC who had defeated Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 at home look to make it two out of two in the Salt Lake Stadium...Round 14 of the I-league sees league leaders Bengaluru FC travel to the City of Joy as they take on Mohammedan Sporting in the Salt Lake Stadium. The last time the two teams met, it was Ashley Westwood's side that ran out 2-1 winners.
However, Mohammedan Sporting has strengthened since then with fresh blood from IMG-Reliance adding depth to the squad with India Internationals Syed Rahim Nabi, Mehrajuddin Wadoo and co. slotting in perfectly.
Bengaluru FC who were already incredibly strong at home, being unbeaten in seven, have improved on their away form as well with a brilliant 3-1 win at Goa against Churchill Brothers, cementing their place at the top of the table.
“We started off our away games with two losses and a draw but I was never really concerned given the perfomances the boys turned up with in those games. It’s all about sticking to our plan and being consistent,” Westwood said.
What is even more encouraging for Westwood is that India international Sunil Chhetri has come good of late with a brace against Churchill pointing to his form at the moment while he's also their top scorer with six goals.
The league leaders however are not taking their opponents lightly especially with their IMG-Reliance contingent giving them a different outlook altogether.
“It may be the second time we are playing Mohammedan but they have a set of new players since then so we aren’t looking at the first game as any indication. For us, this is a separate occasion. Neither side has an advantage over the other and we’ve both got to respect each other’s squads,”
Meanwhile for Mohammedan Sporting, althougth they are unbeaten in five games with their last defeat coming against Lajong almost a month ago, the lack of goals upfront has been a serious concern for Aziz Moshood.
Their last four matches have been uninspiring goalless stalemates with strikers Josimar and especially Australian Tolgay Ozbey failing miserably in front of goal.
With Josimar expected to lead the line with Tolgay in all probability being relegated to the bench, Mohammedan will look to the IMG-Reliance bunch to add extra impetus to the team as they try to upset the league leaders .
