  • Well that brings an end to our play-by-play for this evening. It was an enthralling, engrossing game and Tottenham have secured a massive three points here at Old Trafford tonight. Stick around on site for all the best of the post-match reaction and thank you for joining us.
  • That really was a game of two halves this evening, Tottenham were adventurous, enterprising and dominant in the opening 30 minutes going in two goals up at the break. In the second half, though, led by the excellent Paul Scholes, United launched one of their trademark comebacks and dominated a hugely one-sided half, but ultimately they just left themselves too much to do in the end and the game finished 3-2 to the visitors.
  • The Tottenham fans in the crowd are going ballistic, some of them look as if they can barely believe it and Andre Villas-Boas launches an almighty fist pump at the final whistle. He needed that win.
  • The referee brings and end to the game after a series of hopeful punts into the box sees Friedel claim Linegaard's ball forward. Tottenham have secured a huge win here and they've won 3-2.
  • 90' + 3'
    Substitution Jermain Defoe Michael Dawson
  • 90' + 2'
    Substitution Rio Ferdinand Javier Hernández
  • 90'
Corner in the final minute and Lindegaard is going up the pitch and the ball nearly falls to him with Carrick getting something on it but Tottenham survive.
  • 90'
Tottenham defend a Nani ball into the box well and Caulker heads well clear. We're into the final minute here at Old Trafford now.
  • 90'
That's exactly why he's so frustrating. With United pouring numbers forward into the box, as Ferdinand, who pops up on the right wing, gives it back inside to Nani, he elects to try a speculative effort with his left foot that flies harmlessly both high and wide. What a waste that is!
  • 90'
Looks like we're going to half four minutes of added time here. Plenty of time for either a winner or equaliser then.
  • 89'
It's all very tight on the edge of the box for United with Nani and Welbeck trying to carve Spurs open down the left but Sandro gets it clear and then goes down with cramp, which shows you how much he's had to chase this half.
  • 87'
CHANCE! United really should be level here as Evra drifts in unmarked and gets something on Rafael's ball into the six-yard box, but Friedel manages to hold onto his effort on the stretch as Lennon and Walker both look around at one another about nobody picking up the French left-back.
  • 85'
WOODWORK! Carrick glances a header onto the bar from an inswinging van Persie corner after beating Gallas in the air but Tottenham survive.
  • 84'
    Substitution Mousa Dembélé Tom Huddlestone
  • 83'
If Tottenham win today it will be their first win at Old Trafford since 1989 and their first victory in any competition since 2001 when they beat them 3-1 at White Hart Lane.
  • 82'
CHANCE! Scholes tries his luck from outside of the box and his vicious effort is palmed away well by Friedel. Close but no cigar.
  • 81'
In the last five minutes, Manchester United have had 86% possession, says it all really.
  • 80'
Nani and Rooney combine down the right but that's good defending by Gallas to get across and force it behind for a corner.
  • 79'
    Substitution Shinji Kagawa Danny Welbeck
  • 79'
Tottenham are seriously just about holding on at the moment, as they have done all half, it's been so one-sided.
  • 77'
van Persie, Rooney and Kagawa work the ball round with an intricate spell of play on the edge of the box, but a great tackle by Sandro sees the ball come to Nani, whose effort from distance is right at Friedel.
  • 76'
Scholes spots the run of Nani down the right and finds him with a beautiful pass, but his cross the winger's ball into the box is hoofed clear by Caulker.
  • 75'
Patient and measured appraoach from United here as they work the ball around and across the pitch looking for gaps.
  • 74'
CHANCE!!! Nani whips in another dangerous looking ball in from the right and van Persie glances the header from eight yards out just past the far-hand post with Friedel rooted to the spot.
  • 73'
Rafael gets in a looped cross from the right and Scholes climbs highest, but his effort is weak and Vertonghen hacks clear, but it just keeps coming back.
  • 72'
That substitution just appears to have disrupted the tempo a bit and Tottenham have finally pushed higher up the pitch, but they still can't get on the ball.
  • 71'
Tottenham are chasing shadows out there at the moment and this has been an exceptional period of dominance from United. There's another goal in this one yet.
  • 70'
    Substitution Clint Dempsey Gylfi Sigurdsson
  • 69'
CHANCE! Carrick plays a beautiful pass to van Persie on the left of the box and with the Dutchman all alone and from a slightly narrow angle, his drags his effort well wide across the box. He should have done a lot better with that there.
  • 68'
Tottenham simply can't get out of their own half and Scholes has been instrumental in their dominance and this ramped up tempo which the hosts are playing at. Villas-Boas is going to have to change something soon to try and stem the tide.
  • 66'
Rafael surges off the right flank past Bale and breaks into the box, playing it to Rooney, who with his back to goal and options available on the edge of the box, elects to turn and have a pop at goal, which flies just past Friedel's left-hand post.
  • 65'
Penalty Appeal! After a series of corners as Evans plays it back to Carrick and he works it into the box, as Tottenham go to get the ball clear, it looks as if Sandro has used his hand to get control of the ball. Ferdinand is going mad at Chris Foy, but nothing is given.
  • 63'
Disallowed Goal! They're getting closer and it's van Persie who sees his strike chalked off after being correctly called offside after some tidy work from both Carrick and Scholes. Only a matter of time at this rate.
  • 62'
Woodwork! It's Rooney who steps up to take it and he doesn't try to put too much pace on it but it strikes the post and falls back out with Friedel well-beaten before they can hack it clear.
  • 61'
Kagawa is finding plenty of room in front of the box, drifting across the pitch and he wins a promising free-kick just outside the area in a central position after Lennon tripped him up.
  • 60'
United well and truly have their tails up this half. They've been dominant both on and off the ball and they look a completely different beast to the first half despite making just one change.
  • 58'
Kagawa turns Walker and breaks into the box down the left, but the defender's recovery tackle is excellent and the Chris Foy waves away any faint penalty appeals.
  • 57'
United have really upped the tempo here and Rooney and Scholes are at the heart of it. Sandro and Dembele really need to get their foot on it again as Rooney has another crack from distance which Friedel collects.
  • 54'
GOALLL! This is quite simply ridiculous stuff. Kagawa is the man who has scored the third goal in as many minutes and it comes courtesy of a magnificent pass which splits the defence from van Persie and the midfielder spins on the ball well, turning away from Walker and Gallas before sliding it past the onrushing Friedel to make it 3-2. Wow!
  • 53'
    Assist Robin van Persie
  • 53'
    Goal Shinji Kagawa
  • 52'
    Goal Clint Dempsey
  • 52'
GOALLL!!!! Tottenham are ahead again and Clint Dempsey has poked home into an empty net for a fantastic response. Sandro's great cross-field pass find Defoe down the left, who beats Ferdinand for pace again before deftly playing it into the box for Bale, who sees his shot well saves low to his left by Lindegaard, but Dempsey is on hand to finish it and hand his side back its two-goal advantage.
  • 51'
    Assist Wayne Rooney
  • 51'
    Goal Nani
  • 51'
GOALLL! The comeback is on and it's Nani who has got it after poking home inside the six-yard box Rooney's magnificent cross from out wide on the right. Game on.
  • 50'
Rooney's movement looks sharp already and he nearly latches on to a great Scholes ball that travels a full 50 yards, but it rolls out of play just before he can get onto it.
  • 48'
At the moment it looks as if Rooney is dropping deeper behind van Persie, with Kagawa just to his right.
  • 47'
United working the ball round very nicely at the moment, much-improved on the first half already. They look as they've come out with a purpose to get themselves back into this game.
  • 46'
    Substitution Ryan Giggs Wayne Rooney
  • 46'
Wayne Rooney looks like he's been introduced in place of Ryan Giggs; an attacking change then and we're off for the second half with the score still at 2-0 to Tottenham.
  • The one thing you would say about United as that they're never out, even when they're down. They also have plenty of players on the bench - Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Cleverley - capable of coming on and making an impact.
  • A half-time stat for you - Manchester United have not lost against Tottenham in their last 22 games against them, winning 17 of them. They'll need a dramatic turnaround in their fortunes in the second half to keep that run alive.
  • Andre Villas-Boas looks to have got his plan just right at the minute. Dembele and Sandro have been brilliant in the middle of the park, while Bale, Vertonghen, Walker and Lennon have threatened with their pace and directness down the flanks. They were superb that half and the Portuguese boss will know if they can see the first 15 minute-period through in the second, they could be on for a huge result here.
  • Sir Alex Ferguson cut an imposing figure in the technical area for the final 15 minutes of the half and he looks far from a happy bunny at the minute. Expect changes at the break for the hosts.
  • The first half is brought to a close and Tottenham go in at the break two goals to the good courtesy of Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale. Manchester United not only look flat, they look slow, one-dimensional and unable to break the visitors down.
  • 45'
Walker carries the ball a full forty yards at pace down the right flank but Scholes manages to get back to perform a great last-ditch slide tackle and knock it behind for a corner, but nothing comes of the resulting ball in.
  • 45'
Bale whips in a dangerous looking free-kick from the right flank but Evra gets a fantastic touch on it with his head to clear it away with Vertonghen once again lurking.
  • 44'
From the resulting corner, the ball is worked out to Nani who is 30 yards from goal, but that doesn't put him off having a pop on goal, but it's right down Friedel's neck and he holds onto it well.
  • 43'
That's a very strong penalty appeal turned down for United there, as Nani goes down after Vertonghen gets hold of his shirt after some good work by Rafael and Scholes. I'd have given that.
  • 41'
Tottenham getting pushed back now and they're struggling to get their foot on the ball. Looks as if they're waiting for the half-time whistle to blow.
  • 39'
Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Wayne Rooney make a second half appearance here, United just seem to lack numbers up there at the minute and this Kagawa-van Persie still looks very much like a work in progress.
  • 37'
van Persie spins Gallas 30 yards from goal and feeds in Evra who gets in a tidy low cross which Friedel manages to hold onto, but there was nobody in the box yet again to finish off that move.
  • 35'
United really need to settle here, the home crowd are getting frustrated here and they look toothless in attack, with the ball just failing to stick up there.
  • 34'
Tottenham look very much like the home side at the minute, controlling possession and this United side just looks to slow to cope with their movement - Giggs, Scholes, Evra, Ferdinand and van Persie have all been poor.
  • 32'
    Assist Mousa Dembélé
  • 32'
    Goal Gareth Bale
  • 32'
GOALLLL!!! Tottenham are two goals up at Old Trafford and it's a great goal by Gareth Bale. Sandro breaks the ball up well in the middle of the park and plays it to Dembele, who gives it to Bale a full 50 yards from goal and the winger's pace sees him drive right at the heart of the United back four into the box and Ferdinand simply can't keep up with him before driving a low strike across goal with his right foot which nestles in the bottom corner. Fabulous move and Ferdinand is once again at fault.
  • 30'
Clever ball into the area by Giggs but Vertonghen reads it and knocks it out of play with van Persie caught on his heels a little.
  • 29'
Good pressure from United and it looks as if Rafael has got Vertonghen in a spot of bother down the left, but the Belgian defender's hacked clearance comes off Rafael and goes out for a goal kick.
  • 28'
Better from United as the keep hold of the ball for a spell and van Persie finds Evra in space out to the left, but the Frenchman is flagged for offside just as he gets his cross in.
  • 27'
Nani beats Vertonghen for pace on the outside and swings in an inviting ball into the box, but there's nobody in the box to attack it and the chance is gone. Lovely spot from Carrick there to find Nani out wide.
  • 25'
Tottenham break at pace and Vertonghen and Defoe play a couple of neat one-two's between themselves at pace before Evans gets a toe on it to cut the left-back's ball out.
  • 23'
van Persie's free-kick into the box, though, is flat and very poor but they get a corner. Bit of pressure from the hosts now.
  • 22'
That is very close to being a penalty right on the top right corner of the box as Kagawa wriggles his way past Dembele and draws the foul.
  • 21'
Bale's whipped free-kick in is headed miles over from Vertonghen but he should have at least hit the target from there.
  • 20'
Evra concedes a free-kick in a good position down the left after cynically bringing Walker down, who had knocked it past him and into space.
  • 19'
Dembele is pulling the strings in the middle at the moment and Carrick and Scholes can't get close to him. Kagawa has been practically anonymous.
  • 18'
After nothing comes of the first corner, Bale drifts the ball into the back post but Caulker's header loops high in the air and Lindegaard collects.
  • 17'
Defoe somehow manages to hold the ball up with Evans close behind and as he breaks away, he plays it out to Vertonghen, surging up the pitch, but his first touch is heavy and Ferdinand gets across to knock it behind for a corner.
  • 15'
Vertonghen and Bale already look like they're developing a good understanding down the left and they're pressing all over the pitch the Spurs side whenever they don't have it. Very impressive opening from them.
  • 13'
After receiving a length spell of treatement, though, it looks as if van Persie is willing to play on, for now at least.
  • 12'
Ferdinand plays a lovely 40-yard pass out to the right and Nani brings it down first time superbly, but his lofted cross in finds van Persie at the back post, but as the Dutch striker gets a toe on it and pokes it well wide of the far post, Dembele's thumping tackle on him seems to have left him struggling.
  • 10'
Tottenham are sitting back very deep now and inviting pressure onto them. Looks like Villas-Boas wants them to hit the hosts on the break throughout the game today.
  • 8'
Tottenham are bossing it at the minute and Lennon drives at the United back four, Evra can't keep up with him, but as the winger is forced wide onto his left foot, his effort deflects off Ferdinand.
  • 7'
Dempsey has a pop from outside the box after some bustling work from Dembele, who just brushed off Paul Scholes like he wasn't even there.
  • 5'
Decent response this from Manchester United, who are camped in Tottenham's half after struggling to get anywhere near the visitors in the first few minutes.
  • 3'
GOALL! Tottenham have taken a surprise lead and Jan Vertonghen has his scored for the second game running after finding some room down the left before driving a shot across goal and it takes a big deflection off Jonny Evans and flies past Linegaard. Rio Ferdinand just stood there and watched him drive into the box, baffling defending.
  • 2'
    Own Goal Jonny Evans
  • 2'
The visitors are keeping the ball extremely well at the moment, United can't get a kick.
  • 1'
And we're underway at Old Trafford.
  • The big stat to bring you today is that this is Brad Friedel's 320th successive league game today. Hugo Lloris who?
