That's it from me - @HushKerai - for tonight. Thanks for joining me for tonight's game and I hope to enjoy your company again soon. Good night!
The icing on the cake comes in the form of a pair of broken ducks. Stevan Jovetic bagged a double on his home debut while Jesus Navas raced off the bench to score his first for the club. Yaya Toure also kept up his streak of scoring the same goal, again and again.
Manchester City exert revenge on Wigan for last season's FA Cup final defeat at Wembley. In the end the 5-0 scoreline doesn't really flatter the hosts who dominated the contest from start to finish. The first half was slightly cagey but once City got ahead the Latics never looked like coming back.
FULL-TIME: Manchester City 5-0 Wigan
90' + 1'
'Blue Moon' rings out at the Etihad for the last time tonight. A sensational couple of days for Manuel Pellegrini's men.
We're into stoppage time now of which there will be two minutes. That's a merciful decision from the fourth official on Wigan's behalf. Still time for a sixth City goal...
Meanwhile, from a Wigan perspective, the full-time whistle couldn't come any sooner...

GOAL! Jesus Navas grabs his first for Manchester City. Goals everywhere at the Etihad Stadium!
Poznan atmosphere in the blue half of Manchester tonight as the already hugely popular Jesus Navas bags his first goal for the club. It's a super little near post strike from the Spaniard after he was slipped throughcheekily by his old clum Negredo.
It's another one from close range but Jovetic will be more pleased with this one. James Milner, once again, charges down the left flank and swings in a cross that deflects into the path of Jovetic. The striker slips it under the onrushing Nicholls at his near post. A lovely little finish from a impossibly tight angle. 4-0. Game well and truly over.
GOAL! Stevan Jovetic doubles up on his home debut! Safe to say that Wigan are out of the Capital One Cup.
Meanwhile, Manchester United loanee Nick Powell is thrown on by Owen Coyle. His introduction is met by a chorus of boos, hardly surprising.
It doesn't get any easier for Wigan as one of Sunday's derby heroes joins the action. Alvaro Negredo is stripped off and ready to enter the fray...
Think back to Manchester City's games against Newcastle and Hull. You can copy and paste Toure's goals from those games into this one. The curl and the pace on the ball is too much for Nicholls to handle but I can safely say he saw it coming!
GOAL! Yaya Toure smacks in another free kick in a style that is quickly becoming his trademark!
Yellow CardFraser Fyvie
CHANCE! Another one goes begging for the home side. James Milner just keeps going and going. A tireless run from him puts him in a position to cross and he doesn't disappoint. Dzeko is there to meet it for his second of the night but his header is directed straight at Nicholls.
Jesús Navas González
Stevan Jovetic fancies his second goal of the evening but his powerful shot is too close to Wigan goalkeeper Nicholls. To his credit the Latics shot-stopper has done nothing wrong.
Owen Coyle has a heart. Stephen Crainey doesn't know whether he is coming or going against Micah Richards but he gets some reprieve as Daniel Redmond replaces him. Daniel is the son of former Manchester City player Steven Redmond.
Oh dear. It's another mistake from Chris McCann, who is having a bit of a nightmare if I'm being honest. He gifts possession to Dzeko with a sloppy pass but luckily for him his team-mates retrieve the ball before the Manchester City man can fire at goal.
@abellwillring tweets: "Thanks for the text updates! Nice to have another perspective. Lopes is actually only 17 if you can believe it." Scarcely. Remember the name...
The mood inside the Etihad was beginning to flatten somewhat but that home debut goal from Stevan Jovetic has given everyone a lift, well everyone apart from the travelling Latics. Micah Richards made the goal with a typical burst forward before squaring to the Serb. The finish wasn't exactly neat and tidy but I don't think Jovetic minds.
GOAL! I called it! Just a I was singing his praise, Stevan Jovetic goes and gives City a two-goal lead on his home debut!
Alvaro Negredo took plenty of the plaudits after the weekend's derby heroics. Tonight, Stevan Jovetic is attemptin to showcase his talents to the club's fans and manager. He is a class act from tonight's showing, given time he should flourish at the Etihad...
CHANCE! Inches away from another for the hosts! Three chances come in quick succession; Dzeko fires a shot in from the edge of the box but Nicholls palms it away only as far as Milner, his shot then strikes the post following a deflection and then from the resulting corner, Yaya Toure heads agonisingly wide! Breathless stuff at the Etihad!
Marcos Lopes is having some night. The youngster goes close again after a great exchange betweeen Milner and Dzeko. It's the former's cross that finds the 17-year-old. Unfortunately his volley is blocked in front of the goal and Wigan clear after a spot of penalty box pinball.
CHANCE! Strong start to the second half from the hosts. Gael Clichy overlaps down the left to good effect and wins his side a corner. The resulting cross is met first time by Richards but his strike flies wide of the goal.
Wigan take the kick-off and we are underway for the second period. As expected Yaya Toure has indeed come on for the second half. He takes Fernandinho's place in the City midfield.
Great news for Wigan, ( not really). Yaya Toure looks like his will be coming on at half-time. He has been warming up rather rigourously in his full kit during the half-time break.
Wigan have yet to muster a shot on target. That tells you all you need to know about the visitors so far. Owen Coyles' Latics so far look a farcry from Martinez's FA Cup winning brigade of last season.
Your thoughts on the first half and predictions for the second can be launched at me via @HushKerai. I'll give the best an airing on this commentary.
Edin Dzeko's 33rd minute goal is the difference between the teams at the break. It was a first-half that home side dominated for long stretches, with James Milner, Micah Richards, Stevan Jovetic and Marcos Lopes catching the eye above others. With ten changes you can forgive Manuel Pellegrini's side for not being at their most fluent, but they have a lead that Wigan don't look like being able to come back from. The next 45 minutes may prove me wrong...
HALF-TIME: Manchester City 1-0 Wigan
There'll be one additional minute at the end of the half, which beggers belief. Edin Dzeko's injury took up more than 60 seconds by my count.
A glance to the Manchester City bench shows Manuel Pellegrini with a wide smile on his face. The last few days have been kind to the Chilean and he's enjoying every moment of it.
CHANCE! A moment for Wigan to get back intot he game. Chris McCann is again the man with the opportunity for the Latics but he can't get over his volley and it goes way over the bar. Not really happening for visitors, yet.
Yellow CardLeon Barnett
There is a lengthy delay in the action as Edin Dzeko falls to the ground with his head in his hands. It looks like he took one in the back of his head from Barnett but fortunately for the hosts the striker is back on his feet and looks likely to continue.
CHANCE! It's into the side-netting from Jovetic again! Another rapid counterattack fromthe hosts is spearheaded by James Milner. He clips a cross to the back post where Jovetic controls it before fizzing a half-volley into the side of the goal. I don't think the scoring is over for the night.
GOAL! Edin Dzeko gives Manchester City the lead! It was on the cards. Stevan Jovetic cut in from the right flank to find Fernandinho, he chipped the ball over the Wigan backline and into the path of Dzeko who made no mistake with a neat finish!
The returning Micah Richards has looked impressive early on here. He would have been excused for showing signs of rustiness following a spell on the sidelines, but he has given Wigan defender Stephen Crainey a major headache with his lung-busting attacking runs.
OFF THE BAR! Marcos Lopes is unucky not to have opened the scoring. Jovetic slipped as he was about to shoot and inadvertedly presented the youngster with the chance. His measured left-foot striker smashed against the underside of the upright!
Midway throught the first period and the home side are just edging the possession stakes with 53.1% of the ball. They've also had seven shots on goal but only two have found the target, none have found the back of the net.
But Jordi Gomez can't keep his effort on target. It's not a long way off in fairness but Costel Pantillimon wasn't particularly concerned at all.
Now Wigan make a rare foray into the opposition's half and earn themselves a free kick in a dangerous position. Jordi Gomez stands over the ball...
CHANCE! Now this is Manchester City' best chance of the game so far. It's great play from Marco Lopes on the flank, he digs out a cross for James Milner to run on to but the Englishman can quite meet it with a diving header from six yards out.
Great chance for Edin Dzeko. James Milner does well on the wing before standing a ball up at the backs stick. Unfortunately for Manchester City the Bosnia striker can't head it back where it came from. He gets his effort all wrong and the chance is spurned.
Anotehr chance has fallen to Dedryck Boyata. The defender is having quite a time of it in an attacking sense. His third of head ofthe night goes harmlessly over the bar.
Now the Latics have their first effort of the night. Chris McCann takes the chance to get a shot off at goal but just like Jovetic he snatches at his effort somewhat and misses to the right of the net.
It's Manchester City who are again on the front foot. A nice bit of build-up gets Stevan Jovetic into a shooting position. The Serbia international strikes but misses to the right of the goal. Still looking for his first in a City shirt.
Double chance for City! Two corners are swung in by James Milner and both times Dedryck Boyata gets a header at goal. Lee Nicholls parries both the defender's effortsto safety though. Early danger for the Latics.
A tentative start from both sides here at the Etihad Stadium. Marcos Lopes gives away a free kick for an unfair challenge on Jordi Gomez but Wigan make nothing of it.
Manchester City take the kick-off and we are underway!
The faint hope for Owen Coyle's side lies in their away form at this stage of the competition. The Latics have won both of their last two away matches in the third round of the Capital One Cup 4-1, against West Ham and Ipswich respectively.
The last time these two sides met was in last season's FA Cup final. The Latics triumphed that day with a late goal from Ben Watson. But since then, they have lost manager Roberto Martinez along with James McCarthy and of course, their top-flight status.
We will also see Micah Richards in action for the first time this season. The defender has missed the start of the campaign with hamstring trouble but was an unused substitute in that weekend derby win against Manchester United.
Manuel Pellegrini takes his side into this competition on the back of a morale-boosting 4-1 derby win over Manchester United. The Chiliean has given Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic the chance to impress him with starts tonight, they'll be hoping to to earn a spot in his first XI.
Wigan: Nicholls; Boyce, Rogne, Barnett, Crainey; McCann, Espinoza, Gomez; Fyvie, Garcia, Dicko. Subs: Carson, Shotton, McClean, McArthur, Powell, Redmond, Buxton
Manchester City: Pantilimon; Richards, Boyata, Lescott, Clichy; Milner, Fernandinho, Garcia, Lopes; Dzeko, Jovetic. Subs: Wright, Nastasic, Toure, Navas, Nasri, Negredo, Kolarov.
