Live Commentary

  • So, no Joe Hart and a clean sheet for Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini's side travel to bottom side Sunderland next Sunday but first they face CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, looking to strengthen their grip on a place in the Champions League knockout stages. As for Norwich, they will hope to climb out of the relegation zone when they host West Ham in the late kick off next Saturday. Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on this live commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
  • That 7-0 win lifts Manchester City above Southampton into fourth place, three points behind leaders Arsenal who face Liverpool in just over half an hour. Norwich remain in the relegation zone as the pressure intensifies on Chris Hughton.
  • FT: Manchester City 7-0 Norwich. An own goal from Bradley Johnson before strikes from David Silva, Matija Nastasic, Alvaro Negredo, Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko give the Citizens an emphatic victory to continue their 100% home record. Manuel Pellegrini's side were simply magnificent and I doubt you will see too many better team performances this season.
  • 90' + 2'
It is announced on the overhead that Sergio Aguero has been awarded man-of-the-match and I don't think too many people can argue with that. He has been simply irresistable today and has not stopped running all game. In saying that, Manchester City have been mightily impressive all over the pitch.
  • 90'
TERRIFIC FROM AGUERO! He produces some fancy footwork to drift past four Norwich defenders before setting up Zabaleta. The right-back shifts the ball onto his left foot but balloons an effort over the bar.
  • 89'
Costel Pantilimon has come in for Joe Hart today to keep a clean sheet but in reality, Manchester City have hardly needed a goalkeeper. The Romanian shotstopper made one fine stop to deny Pilkington in the first half but could easily have taken a seat amongst the fans.
  • 88'
It nearly becomes eight as Dzeko's attempted volley falls kindly for Aguero but this time the Argentine striker cannot make good contact with his effort and it bounces wide of the target,.
  • 86'
    Assist Jesús Navas González
  • 86'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
DZEKO MAKES IT 7-0! The Bosnian gets his name on the scoresheet as he receives Navas' pass with his back to goal before swivelling and firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
  • 85'
Credit to the Norwich fans as they cheer wildly to celebrate their team winning a corner. However, the celebrations end there as it is comfortably headed away.
  • 83'
SO CLOSE TO 7-0! Toure's powerful free kick strikes the wall but it falls kindly for Demichelis whose snapshot is held brilliantly by Ruddy.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Michael Turner
Turner picks up Norwich's first caution after cynically obstructing Aguero off the ball. Can Toure replicate his earlier effort?
  • 81'
Bassong has had a tough game today and he is outmuscled by Dzeko, allowing Navas to race through on goal. However, Manchester City are denied a seventh goal as Ruddy tips the Spaniard's shot around the post.
  • 79'
Aguero plays a superb one-two with Dzeko as the Norwich defence is opened up at ease once again. However, Fer gets back to make a crucial challenge just as the Argentine was set to shoot.
  • 77'
Norwich enjoy a rare spell of possession in the Manchester City half but it comes to nothing as Pilkington's sloppy pass gifts Toure the ball. I would not want to be in Hughton's dressing room at the end of this game.
  • 75'
While Manchester City have looked vulnerable on the road, they have been mightily impressive at the Etihad this season. In five games, they have now racked up 19 goals and conceded just two.
  • 73'
Substitution David Silva Jesús Navas González
A final change for Manchester City as David Silva is replaced by Jesus Navas. Silva receives a standing ovation from the home fans, he has been simply fantastic today.
  • 71'
    Substitution Samir Nasri James Milner
A substitution for Manchester City as James Milner replaces the impressive Samir Nasri.
  • 71'
    Goal Sergio Agüero
AGUERO MAKES IT 6-0! The Argentine striker scores on his 100th Manchester City appearance, slamming the ball past Ruddy after Bassong's poor clearance from Silva's cross.
  • 69'
Chris Hughton will be really disappointed by the performance of his side today. They have been unlucky with a few of the goals conceded but they have lacked fluidity, particularly in the midfield. I'm sure Hughton will be keen for Redmond and Snodgrass to get back to fitness.
  • 67'
Nasri has produced one of his finest performances in a blue shirt and he nearly claims another assist when his cross just evades Zabaleta at the back post.
  • 65'
I'm not sure I've had to mention his name today but Fernandinho has not put a foot wrong in the midfield. City have been simply magnificent today.
  • 64'
Aguero is still looking to get on the scoresheet and he goes close when his dipping shot bounces narrowly wide of the post. Norwich attack down the other end but Elmander's shot is well blocked by Toure.
  • 62'
Norwich look to grab a consolation when Martin picks out Murphy on the edge of the box. However, the 18-year-old can only drag his left-footed shot wide of the target. It seems Pantilimon could be set for a clean sheet on his first Premier League start.
  • 60'
    Goal Yaya Touré
5-0! TOURE HAS DONE IT AGAIN! Is there a better free kick taker in Europe at the moment? The Ivorian curls the ball over the wall with pace and it flies into the top corner, past the helpless Ruddy. No keeper in the world would save that one.
  • 60'
Dzeko produces a neat turn to spin away from Fer but just as he is set to shoot, he is cynically fouled by Johnson on the edge of the box. The Norwich man is fortunate to escape without a caution. Yaya Toure territory here.
  • 58'
Yaya Toure picks out the run of Aguero in the box but the Argentine is denied a goal by some good defending from Olsson. I wonder if Pellegrini will be tempted to make a change soon with the upcoming Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow.
  • 56'
AGUERO GOES CLOSE! Ruddy produces a fine stop to deny Nasri's low drive and Aguero seizes onto the rebound but can only chip the ball into the side netting.
  • 54'
WHAT A CHANCE FOR NORWICH! Elmander seizes on an error by Demichelis and the Swede surges into the box to meet Olsson's cross but can only poke the ball the wrong side of the post.
  • 52'
Martin is caught sloppily in possession by Dzeko and the Bosnian striker plays a neat one-two with Aguero before seeing his shot well charged down by Turner. Manchester City are clearly not settling for just the four goals here.
  • 50'
Aguero is looking to get on the scoresheet after it seems the first goal was credited as a Bradley Johnson own goal. He connects with Nasri's cross from the right but it is well blocked by Martin.
  • 49'
Norwich have made a strong start to the second half. Clearly Hughton must have had some stern words. Pilkington surges into the box but his cutback is just behind Elmander and the attack breaks down.
  • 47'
    Yellow Card Pablo Zabaleta
Zabaleta picks up the first booking of the game after he brings down Murphy who had sped past him. Norwich have high hopes for this 18-year-old.
  • 46'
    Substitution Gary Hooper Johan Elmander
  • 46'
    Substitution Steven Whittaker Josh Murphy
  • 46'
    Substitution Negredo Edin Dzeko
  • 46'
Norwich City kick off the second half. Josh Murphy is on for his Premier League debut whilst Johan Elmander is also on for the visitors. A change for Manchester City as well as Edin Dzeko replaces Alvaro Negredo.
  • HT: Manchester City 4-0 Norwich. An own goal from Bradley Johnson and strikes from David Silva, Matija Nastasic and Alvaro Negredo have put Manuel Pellegrini's side into a commanding lead at the break. It's been all too easy for the hosts who have been helped by one or two strokes of luck along the way. If Norwich don't sort themselves out at the break, it could get canary ugly.
  • The Norwich players are relieved as the referee blows the half-time whistle. It's been a nightmare half for Chris Hughton's side.
  • 44'
Four goals conceded in the cup against Manchester United and a further four in the first half alone against Manchester City today, it's not a great time to be a Norwich fan. Can they give their fans something to celebrate? It seems unlikely at this rate, Pellegrini's side are utterly dominant.
  • 42'
TOURE NEARLY MAKES IT FIVE! The Ivorian finds space to swivel on the edge of the box but his powerful shot goes straight at Ruddy. Norwich attack straight down the other end but Johnson's shot is well blocked by Nastasic.
  • 40'
It's been a busy week for Sergio Aguero. After last weekend's goal against Chelsea, he was on the end of a scathing verbal attack by Diego Maradona. However he has responded magnificently today, with a goal and two assists so far.
  • 38'
PANTILIMON MAKES A SAVE! Pilkington strides forward from midfield and with Demichelis and Nastasic backing off, he sends a low, fizzing shot towards goal which is tipped behind excellently by the Romanian goalkeepeer.
  • 36'
    Assist Sergio Agüero
  • 36'
    Goal Negredo
NEGREDO MAKES IT 4-0! There's a hint of offside about it as Aguero appears to be beyond the last man when he receives Toure's pass but the flag is not raised and Negredo is on hand to convert from the Argentine's square pass.
  • 35'
Norwich are affording Nasri and Silva way too much time on the ball and the pair are being able to pick their passes with ease at present. I imagine Hughton will have some stern words at the break.
  • 33'
Clichy and Negredo combine neatly down the left to cut the ball back for Silva but his shot is well deflected behind by Turner. From the resulting corner, Aguero flashes a half volley over the bar.
  • 31'
The possession statistics show that Manchester City have enjoyed 68% of the play. For all their 32%, Norwich have done very little with the ball. It seems a question of how many goals Manchester City want here.
  • 29'
The Norwich defenders just cannot cope with the movement of Aguero and Negredo at the moment. Nasri looks to pick out the run of the latter on this occasion but it is just too far ahead of the Spaniard who had peeled away from his marker.
  • 27'
Manchester City are toying with Norwich at the moment and Hughton's side just cannot get hold of the ball. Silva looks to pick out Aguero with a crossfield pass but Martin makes a desperate lunge to intercept.
  • 25'
    Assist Samir Nasri
  • 25'
    Goal Matija Nastasic
MANCHESTER CITY LEAD 3-0! Nastasic will try and claim it as his header from Nasri's corner deflects off of Martin and leaves Ruddy wrongfooted. This could get ugly for the Canaries.
  • 24'
Incidentally, the last five Premier League games between these two teams have produced no fewer than 30 goals. We could see a few more today I imagine.
  • 22'
Manchester City are in firm control here and Aguero attempts an acrobatic volley but cannot make contact with Nasri's cross from the right.
  • 20'
    Assist Sergio Agüero
  • 20'
    Goal David Silva
SILVA MAKES IT 2-0! Nasri's superb through ball picks out the run of Aguero and the Argentine waits patiently for Silva who fires the ball underneath the arm of Ruddy and into the net. A long way back for Norwich now.
  • 18'
Manchester City look to snatch a second goal instantly but Negredo's cross is just too long for Aguero in the middle.
  • 16'
    Own Goal Bradley Johnson
1-0! AGUEROOOOOO!! Manchester City are in front but it's hardly going to be the goal of the week. Clichy's low cutback picks out Silva in the box and his volley is well blocked but the rebound falls to Aguero who witnesses his shot loop off of Johnson and over the helpless Ruddy. Desperately unlucky for the visitors.
  • 15'
NASRI GOES CLOSE! The Frenchman produces a splendid feint to jink past Whittaker and Bassong but after doing the hard work, he can only blaze his shot wide of the target.
  • 13'
This is a decent period for Norwich and Pilkington in particular has made a good start to the game. Surely they can't win at the Etihad Stadium for two years running?
  • 12'
Joe Hart looks on gloomily from the bench. It has been 123 league matches since he last missed out for Manchester City. His replacement, Pantilimon, has not had much to do so far however.
  • 11'
Pilkington produces a splendid dummy to deceive Zabaleta and he leaves the Argentine in his wake but also leaves the ball behind him as Demichelis is allowed to sweep up the danger.
  • 9'
Norwich are defending bravely at the moment and Hooper is the only yellow shirt not to be camped deep inside their half. Neither goalkeeper has been tested so far.
  • 7'
David Silva produces some fantastic footwork to dribble his way along the byline but he cannot produce the cross to match as his ball is just too high for Negredo.
  • 5'
Norwich enjoy their first attack of the match as Fer produces a neat piece of skill to set up Howson whose low shot deflects off of Hooper and falls kindly for Pantilimon.
  • 4'
The yellow Norwich shirts have yet to venture into the opposition half and Manchester City have already begun to exploit the visitors down the right, with Zabaleta looking particularly bright early on. Can they snatch an early goal?
  • 2'
It's a strong start from the hosts and they win a corner when Bassong nervously scrambles Zabaleta's cross behind. Nasri whips the ball in but Demichelis can only glance his header wide of the target.
  • 1'
The referee blows his whistle and Manchester City, in their traditional sky blue shirts, get the game underway.
  • The two sides emerge from the tunnel with captains Yaya Toure and Sebastian Bassong leading out the two sides. Will Manchester City take advantage of Chelsea's earlier defeat to Newcastle or will Norwich end their three-game winless streak in the league? Kickoff is minutes away.
  • Chris Hughton also makes two changes to the side which drew 0-0 with Cardiff. Steven Whittaker and Bradley Johnson come into the team with Robert Snodgrass and Alexander Tettey dropping out. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and Nathan Redmond are not fit enough to make the bench.
  • Manuel Pellegrini makes two changes to the side which lost 2-1 to Chelsea. Joe Hart is dropped, meaning that Costel Pantilimon starts in goal whilst Alvaro Negredo comes in for Javi Garcia.
  • NORWICH (4-4-1-1): Ruddy; Martin, Turner, Bassong (c), Whittaker; Pilkington, Fer, Johnson, Olsson; Howson; Hooper.
  • MAN CITY (4-4-2): Pantilimon; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Nastasic, Clichy; Nasri, Fernandinho, Toure (C), Silva; Aguero, Negredo.
  • Without further ado, here are today's lineups...
  • Both clubs were in Capital One Cup action this week, with Manchester City beating Newcastle 2-0 and Norwich suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.
  • As for Norwich, they had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Cardiff at home last weekend despite dominating the match for large periods. They have only managed one away league win this season - a 1-0 victory over Stoke -  having lost at Hull, Tottenham and Arsenal. Can they pick up some more points on the road today?
  • Manuel Pellegrini will be happy to be back at the Etihad Stadium after last weekend's last-gasp defeat to Chelsea which involved Joe Hart's late blunder. Incidentally, the England No.1 is on the bench today, with Costel Pantilimon between the sticks. Under Pellegrini, Manchester City have won all four of their home league matches.
  • When Manchester City and Norwich meet, you're normally guaranteed to see goals. The Canaries lost 4-3 to Manchester City at Carrow Road last season before earning a famous 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium on the final day. Will it prove a happy ground for Chris Hughton's side again this afternoon?
