  • Man City created enough chances to win the game themselves, but Weidenfeller, like his opposite number, had an excellent game between the sticks. Silva should have given City the lead in the first half, and it took a typically calm penalty from Balotelli in stoppage time to secure a slightly fortuitous point for the hosts.
  • Dortmund created countless chances, but Hart was a match for all but Reus' fine goal after Rodwell had conceded possession to the German deep in his own half. Lewandowski missed a sitter, but was almost unplayable otherwise, creating numerous chances for his team-mates.
  • FULL TIME! Man City extend their unbeaten run at home in Europe, but what a struggle it was. Dortmund played so well, and will be aggrieved with the decision to award a slightly harsh penalty, but one player who certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side was Joe Hart.
  • 90' + 4'
Man City win a free-kick after Santana uses his arm to control the ball. Kolarov's free-kick is cleared and Dortmund break with pace. Reus plays a crossfield pass for Bender, who knocks the ball down for Lewandowski inside the box, but the tall Polish striker can't control the ball to release a shot.
  • 90' + 3'
    Yellow CardMarco Reus
  • 90' + 1'
Lewandowski holds up the ball, turns and advances on goal before firing a rasping low drive towards the bottom corner. Once again, Hart gets across to make the save. England's number one has been heroic tonight.
  • 90'
    Penalty GoalMario Balotelli
GOAL!! Aguero shapes to hit a volley on the turn but it hits the arm of Subotic and the referee points to the spot. Balotelli steps up confidently, walks towards the ball, waits for Weidenfeller to make his move and then passes the ball into the opposite corner. Pure confidence. Can Man City win from here?
  • 88'
    SubstitutionMario Götze Sebastian Kehl
  • 87'
Balotelli holds the ball up and feeds Zabaleta. The Argentine whips in a dangerous cross which lands on the head of Aguero. His glancing header is well saved by Weidenfeller.
  • 85'
    Yellow CardYaya Touré
  • 85'
Toure, unable to affect the match amongst the swarms of yellow and black shirts that have surrounded him, is booked for dissent.
  • 84'
Man City have created few clear-cut chances since going a goal down, and they appear to be playing more directly since the introduction of Balotelli.
  • 82'
    SubstitutionIlkay Gündogan Kevin Großkreutz
  • 82'
Kevin Grosskreutz replaces Gundogan, who has had an excellent game in the heart of midfield but took a heavy knock minutes earlier.
  • 81'
    SubstitutionGael Clichy Mario Balotelli
  • 81'
The man, the myth, the legend: Mario Balotelli is on in place of Clichy, with Kolarov switching to left-back. Mancini's side need a goal.
  • 79'
Gundogan is floored and the Dortmund team and fans are furious, but the referee waves play on. City attack and win a corner, but it is subsequently cleared.
  • 78'
Dortmund's pressing hasn't let up in the second half, and they still look able to rip Man City apart on the break.
  • 76'
WHAT A CHANCE! Gundogan robs Toure, nutmegs Clichy and then plays a sublime pass across goal for Lewandowski. The Polish forward, about 6-yards out from goal, tries to strike the ball past Hart with the outside of his boot but misses. That's a terrible finish after stunning build-up play from Gundogan.
  • 74'
    SubstitutionMats Hummels Felipe Santana
  • 74'
Hummels, who landed awkwardly earlier, is replaced by Brazilian centre-back Felipe Santana.
  • 71'
Kolarov pokes the ball behind the Dortmund defence for Aguero. The Argentine is through on goal, but opts to square the ball for Dzeko rather than shoot. Hummels sticks out a long leg and clears the ball.
  • 69'
Kolarov's introduction changed Man City's shape to a back three, but, unhappy with how his team have played since that reshuffle, Mancini has now reverted back to a four-man defence.
  • 67'
This is Joe Hart vs Borussia Dortmund now. Hummels plays a long ball over the top of the City defence, who are appealing for offside, but the linesman's flag stays down and Gotze drives into the box. His shot is blocked as far as Gundogan, whose curling shot looks to be going into the top corner until Hart makes another excellent save to tip the ball over the bar.
  • 64'
Dortmund are in again. Reus makes an inside run and is found by Lewandowski. The German takes a touch and shoots low and hard, but Hart makes the save with his feet.
  • 61'
    GoalMarco Reus
GOAL!! Rodwell plays a blind pass intended for Nastasic, but Reus anticipated it. The German intercepts the ball and drives towards goals with incredible speed. The City defence can't keep up and Reus closes in on goal before releasing his shot. Hart manages to get a hand on it, but there's too much venom in the shot to prevent it from going in.
  • 58'
    Yellow CardJakub Blaszczykowski
  • 58'
He's only been on the pitch for a minute, but already Kolarov is involved in the action. First he tackles Piszczek inside the box, with the Dortmund fans claiming a penalty, then he's on the receiving end of an overly robust challenge from Blaszczykowski, who is subsequently booked.
  • 57'
    SubstitutionSamir Nasri Aleksandar Kolarov
  • 57'
Aleksandar Kolarov, who scored against Real Madrid, replaces the peripheral Nasri.
  • 56'
Zabaleta powers forward from deep past Schmelzer and plays a dangerous low cross into the box, but Hummels clears.
  • 54'
Blaszczykowski slides a ball down the channel for Piszczek, who cuts the ball back to Gotze just inside the box. The German playmaker takes his shot first time, curling the ball towards the far post, but Hart dives across his goal and makes the save.
  • 51'
Lewandowski looks to have played in Reus. The German is clean through, but just as he is about to pull the trigger Zabaleta sticks a leg out and robs the ball. A crucial last ditch challenge from the Argentine.
  • 50'
Man City are retaining the ball much better at the start of this half. Toure lofts a pass towards Dzeko from deep, which the Bosnian chests and volleys in one movement, but it's a comfortable save for Weidenfeller.
  • 47'
Kompany passes straight to Reus, and the German counters. He tries to release Lewandowski, but Kompany steps up and intercepts.
  • 46'
Both sides have put on new, dry shirts at half-time. They won't stay that way for long.
  • 46'
Dortmund get the second half underway.
  • Dzeko has had a quiet game for Man City so far, but when Aguero and Silva are fed in the final third they look dangerous. The City defence has struggled to deal with the speed and movement of Dortmund's front four, and have Joe Hart to thank for still having their clean sheet intact at the break.
  • Dortmund have regularly exposed Man City on the break, with Lewandowski's deft first time flicks and passes unlocking the Citizens' defence at will. Subotic and Hummels have been troubled on the turn, but City haven't exploited that frailty enough. Gotze had two brilliant opportunities to score after fantastic interplay.
  • HALFTIME! It's been attack, attack, attack in the last 15 minutes. Both sides have created excellent chances and should have scored. Dortmund have perhaps edged the game so far, with Hart making a number of excellent saves to deny the German side.
  • 45' + 1'
CHANCE! Dortmund break once more. Lewandowski pulls off down the channel and plays a perfect cross for Gundogan. The Dortmund midfielder controls the ball and shoots, but it's right at Hart and the Man City keeper makes another save.
  • 45'
CHANCE! Dortmund may have had the better chances, but Man City should be going into half-time 1-0 up. Aguero is tackled and the ball breaks to Zabaleta down the right. He crosses into the box and the ball reaches Silva, a couple of yards out from goal, who somehow manages to volley over the bar.
  • 44'
Blaszczykowski receives the ball outside the box and whips a brilliant cross across the face of goal. If anything, it's too good a delivery, evading everyone.
  • 42'
Former Dortmund player and now Manchester resident Shinji Kagawa is in the crowd to watch his old club. He's accompanied by Arsenal/Wigan's Ryo Miyaichi.
  • 39'
OFF THE BAR! Joe Hart has just kept his side in this match. First, Gotze and Lewandowski play a wonderful one-two which sees the German clean through on goal. Gotze goes to wrap his foot around the ball but Hart rushes out and saves. Man City fail to fully clear the danger, allowing Reus to play Gotze in on goal again. He takes a touch and thunders an effort on goal, which Hart pushes onto the bar.
  • 36'
City win a corner but Dortmund deal with the danger and break, winning a corner of their own within seconds. The initial setpiece is punched clear by Hart, but only as far as Subotic. The centre-back fires a shot on goal which misses Hart's far post by inches.
  • 35'
Silva twists and turns in an attempt to escape the high pressure of Dortmund. Wriggling free of multiple challenges, he bursts forward and releases Aguero. Dzeko makes an excellent run to open up space for the Argentine, which he drives into before releasing a powerful shot that is tipped over by Weidenfeller.
  • 34'
    SubstitutionJavi García Jack Rodwell
  • 34'
Javi Garcia is down with what appears to be a thigh injury. A stretcher is called for, but the Spaniard is able to walk off the pitch. Jack Rodwell replaces him.
  • 31'
Piszczek runs forward from deep and squares the ball for countryman Blaszczykowski. The Polish winger bursts into the box but Kompany sticks out a leg and wins the ball.
  • 28'
    Yellow CardVincent Kompany
  • 28'
Reus touches the ball past Kompany and looks set to race through on goal until the big Belgian centre-back body checks him. Kompany is duly booked.
  • 28'
CHANCE! Silva slides a cut pass in between Subotic and Hummels for Aguero. Once against Weidenfeller is off his line very quickly, narrowing the angle, and saves the Argentine's shot.
  • 27'
Dzeko is clean through after a long ball from deep. He controls the ball with his chest and looks to be about to shoot, but the linesman's flag is up for offside.
  • 25'
Dortmund aren't allowing City to settle or establish a tempo. The Black and Yellows are pressing high and with great intensity, and it's resulting in a slightly scrappy game.
  • 22'
Sir Alex Ferguson is in attendance tonight, but judging by his enormous yawn he isn't enjoying the match very much
  • 19'
It's raining cats and dogs in Manchester, which is contributing to a sloppy period in the match with neither side able to take control of the contest.
  • 16'
Dortmund's pressing is quite incredible. The front four are granting Man City no time on the ball, Toure and Silva especially.
  • 14'
Silva looks to be crowded out near Dortmunds byline, but he reverses a pass to an onrushing Zabaleta. The Argentine is about to pull the trigger but the Dortmund defence swarms him and eliminates the danger.
  • 12'
OFF THE POST! Lewandowski drives at goal and feeds Gotze. The young German advances, using the dummy run of Reus, before firing a shot towards the bottom corner. Hart makes an excellent save, pushing the ball onto the post and out for a corner which City subsequently clear.
  • 11'
Man City are getting in behind the Dortmund defence with relative ease so far.
  • 8'
CHANCE! Silva lofts an beautifully weighted through-ball over the top for Aguero, but Weidenfeller races out of his goal, narrows the angle and makes a good save. Man City recover possession and pass around Dortmund's box before Zabaleta takes a shot from just inside the penalty area which goes high and wide.
  • 7'
Blaszczykowski drives forward and offloads to Piszczek, who crosses for Lewandowski, but his header goes over. Good interplay between the Polish trio, and the tall striker will fancy his chances against Zabaleta at the far post.
  • 4'
After a frantic start to the game from the home side, the match has slowed to a less frenetic pace.
  • 1'
Aguero goes down inside the box, claiming foul play. The referee, rightly, waves play on.
  • 1'
Almost the perfect start for the hosts. Nasri picks up the ball just outside the box and fizzes a shot towards Weidenfeller's far post, but the keeper (who captains the side in Kehl's absence) makes a good save.
  • 1'
Manchester City get the match underway
  • Dortmund have taken part of "The Wall" with them to Manchester. There's a very loud and very yellow pocket of Dortmund fans singing their hearts out in one colourful corner of the Etihad Stadium.
  • The players are on their way out of the tunnel in Manchester and we're just minutes away from kick-off.
  • Man City beat the last German side to visit the Etihad Stadium (2-0 against Bayern Munich), and Dortmund lost on their last trip to England (2-1 against Arsenal). Omens.
  • Man City haven't kept a clean sheet this season, while Dortmund have scored 13 goals in their last four games.
  • Robert Lewandowski returns to Dortmund’s starting XI after he was rested in the Black and Yellow’s 5-0 league win over Borussia Monchengladbach. Jurgen Klopp has favoured Sven Bender over club captain Sebastian Kehl in midfield. Dortmund are otherwise unchanged.
  • Roberto Mancini makes two changes to the side that beat Fulham at the weekend. Edin Dzeko, scorer of the winning goal against the Cottagers, replaces Carlos Tevez, and Samir Nasri is picked ahead of Gareth Barry, so Yaya Toure drops back into his deeper role. Matija Nastasic continues in defence alongside Vincent Kompany, with Joleon Lescott remaining on the bench.
  • Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Schmelzer, Hummels, Subotic, Piszczek: Bender, Gündogan; Blaszczykowski, Götze, Reus; Lewandowski. Subs: Langerak, Felipe Santana, Kehl, Leitner, Grosskreutz, Perišić, Schieber.
  • Manchester City: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Garcia, Yaya; Nasri, Silva; Aguero; Dzeko. Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Milner, Kolarov, Rodwell, Tevez, Balotelli
