Live Commentary

  • The referee blows his whistle for the last time, after a minute and a half of injury time, and confirms the result that had been in no doubt for quite some time. Great performance from Barcelona, even by their own high standards, and they prove in emphatic fashion that there is no crisis in the Camp Nou. The result doesn't do Mallorca justice, as they pplayed quite well, but poor finishing and the sheer brilliance of their opposition on the night hands them a heavy defeat. Thankyou for following on!
  • 90' + 1'
The referee calls for two minutes of added time.
  • 90'
Affelay looks to attack down the left wing, but he goes to ground and the ball goes for a throw. There was contact from the defender, but it appeared minimal, and the young dutchman may have simply realised the ball was going out of play and looked for the free-kick.
  • 88'
The Blaugrana defence are again made to work, but they do show good composure and prevent a real threat to their goal.
  • 86'
Martin Montoya comes on for Barcelona, to replace Adriano. The young full-back is considered one of Barcelona's best prospects, and this will be his first league appearance for the first team, albeit a short one.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionAdriano Montoya
  • 83'
Barcelona look to attack again as Iniesta switches the ball to Bojan on the wirght wing, but the young forward runs out of space, and the ball goes out for a throw-in.
  • 81'
This win could prove to be hugely important for Barcelona, who have been rather unconvincing in recent fixtures. Not the case tonight however. They have really taken this game by the scruff of its neck.
  • 78'
Barcelona forced to defend back-to-back corners, but they do so relatively easily.
  • 76'
Los Bermellones looking to attack down the right wing through Nsue, but he can't find the ball into the box, and Barcelona are able to clear.
  • 73'
Barcelona again come close! Iniesta rushes into the box after a great pass played him through, skips over the keeper who had come off his line to stop the marauding midfielder, and fires into the side netting! Good opportunity for Iniesta, who has had a great season in terms of goals, already scoring more than he had in the last two seasons combined.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionJonathan De Guzmán Sergio Tejera
  • 72'
Though Barcelona have generally dominated proceedings tonight, one cannot help but wonder what might have been for Mallorca had they only been more clinical. Goals change games, and the islanders had a few good opportunities early in the game. Could this game have gone differently if they were only able to put one or even two of those away? Difficult to say now, but they can definitely draw some positives from their performance tonight.
  • 70'
    SubstitutionChory Castro Akihiro Ienaga
  • 70'
    SubstitutionDavid Villa Bojan Krkic
  • 70'
    SubstitutionPedro Ibrahim Afellay
  • 70'
Barcelona make a double switch now, with Afellay taking the place of Pedro, and Bojan coming on to replace Villa. Both players have had a good night, and it is likely that Guardiola wants to keep them as fresh as possible for the game in mid-week.
  • 69'
    SubstitutionAkihiro Ienaga Chory Castro
  • 69'
Mallorca looking for a quick response to the latest goal, playing some great passes around the box, but eventually the flag goes up as the last of the series is called offside.
  • 66'
    Assist Seydou Keita
  • 66'
    Goal Pedro
  • 66'
PEDRO SCORES A SCREAMER! 3-0 for Barcelona, and another dominant win in the bag! Pedro cut in from the left wing brilliantly, before curling a shot into the top corner of the goal! The defenders seemed to be standing off him, waiting for him to cut inside the box, but no need, as he takes the shot from distance and scores! One for the highlight reel for sure.
  • 65'
Mallorca enjoying a period of possession now, looking to go forward but doing so patiently.
  • 62'
Barcelona back to basics since the goal, once again enjoying another period of absolute dominance as far as possession goes.
  • 61'
SubstitutionJoao de Albuquerque Bruno Michael Pereira
  • 60'
Villa has been in great goal-scoring form of late, and it continues in this game. In truth he looks good value for another goal tonight, but despite the big lapse in concentration to let him through for his goal, Mallorca's defence has generally been great tonight.
  • 58'
    Yellow Card Marti
  • 57'
    Assist Busquets
  • 57'
    Goal David Villa
  • 57'
GOAL! Villa makes it 2-1 after some sloppy defending! Mallorca's defence were absolutely static, as a through ball from Busquets found Villa ran nearly the length of the opposition half, rounded the keeper and scored a simple tap into the net.
  • 57'
The home side rush forward again, but Pique shows great composure to cut out the move and get the ball back in Barcelona's control.
  • 53'
Barcelona trying to get the ball forward again, as Messi charges towards the box looking for his second, but Ruben makes a vital tackle and prevents any real danger.
  • 52'
The link up play being shown by Barcelona in midfield is nothing short of exemplary, as they continue to dominate that area of the pitch.
  • 50'
Free-kick looks threatening, as Guzman attempts to cross into the box but it is not met by Mallorca, and Pinto catches it.
  • 49'
Mallorca win a free-kick in an attacking position, as Pique pushed into Webo whilst challenging for a header.
  • 48'
Barcelona looking to attack with Villa down the right wing. He tries to centre the ball for Messi, but it is cut out before it can reach him.
  • 46'
    The second-half is underway!
  • The referee blows his whistle for half-time, after less than a minute of injury time. The first half has been a close affair, Mallorca really showing the reigning champions that they are no pushovers, but their finishing has been rather poor. The same can be said for Barcelona to some extent, as they have squandered a couple of decent chances, but they lead at the break, thanks to a rather rare headed goal by Messi.
  • 45' + 1'
Villa is presented with a golden opportunity to double Barcelona's lead, as he picks up a short pass just outside the 18 yard box, but he seems to trip over his own feet and the opportunity is wasted.
  • 45'
Iniesta launches a long ball forward, looking for Pedro, but it is cut out before it can reach him.
  • 42'
Barcelona seem a little more loose having opened the scoring here, pushing forward more in the last few minutes. No real opportunities produced since the goal, but the stage looks set for this game to really come alive.
  • 40'
That goal puts Messi two goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, at least until his Madrid side travels to Riazor later tonight to face Deportivo. That game can of course be followed here on
  • 38'
    Goal Lionel Messi
  • 38'
    Assist Seydou Keita
  • 38'
GOAL! MESSI! The little man latches onto a long ball into the box from Keita, controls the ball fantastically with his head and, again with his head, sends the ball over Aouate and into the net! Great goal!
  • 37'
So close for Adriano! He broke into the six yard box brilliantly, before firing a shot across goal, which simply trickled along the goal-line without passing it. Great effort from the summer signing, whose Barcelona career has been slightly undazzling so far.
  • 36'
Mallorca flattering to decieve now, as a tasty looking attack is cut out by Busquets, as Barcelona calll extra men back to defend.
  • 33'
Mallorca unlucky not to take the lead, as two seperate players get on the ball and fumble inexplicably! The Balaeric side's build-up play has been fantastic so far, but not even a sniff of finish.
  • 31'
Messi again! After connecting brilliantly with Andres Iniesta, he finds the ball just a few yards from goal, and fires narrowly over the bar! Good effort, but it would be fair to say we've come to expect better from the Argentine magician, who simply hasn't looked his best in recent weeks.
  • 30'
Messi again charging forward, but this time he is tackled by Ruben Gonzalez, who gives Aouate enough time to come off his line and cut out the danger.
  • 28'
Barcelona really are providing something of a passing master-class here, but this game could do with some spicing up.
  • 26'
Messi looking to damage the islanders now, charging into the box, but the defence keeps the pressure on him, and he eventually runs out of space on the by-line.
  • 25'
Los Cules still very much in charge of the game here, moving the ball around rather nicely indeed.
  • 23'
Barcelona produce their best chance of the game, as Villa breaks into the box and tries to play a short pass to Messi in front of goal, but the Argentine's touch is uncharacteristically poor, and Mallorca are able to get the ball out of danger.
  • 22'
Interesting tid-bit, Barcelona have failed to win on the last two occasions that they have worn their away kit. Can the minty jersey regain some pride tonight?
  • 20'
Barcelona looking dangerous going forward, as David Villa appears clean through picking up a long ball, but the assistant's flag goes up and he is called offside.
  • 18'
Unsurprisingly, Barcelona are enjoying the lion's share of possession here, but Los Bermellones have been producing more in attack, looking sharp on the counter.
  • 16'
Mallorca again threatening, this time from a corner, and it is Webo again who fires the header wide.
  • 13'
The Balugrana are still moving the ball about well in midfield, but have not produced too much in attack so far.
  • 11'
Barcelona starting to get into the swing of things now, dominating possession in the last few minutes.
  • 9'
Barcelona under threat again, as Mallorca get the ball into the box, but their effort goes well over the bar.
  • 7'
Mallorca really making Barcelona work in these opening minutes, troubling the defence and doing a good job of stifling their passing game in midfield.
  • 5'
Mallorca again, as Nsue swings in a cross, but can't find anybody to connect, and the danger passes.
  • 3'
Barcelona looking dangerous now, as Adriano swings in a cross from the right wing, but it's too close to the 'keeper, who is able to pick it out easily.
  • 2'
First opportunity of the match falls to Mallorca, as Webo has a blast from just outside the box, but he puts it straight at Pinto, and it's an easy gather for the Barcelona shot-stopper.
  • 1'
    Mallorca get the game underway!
  • Hello and welcome to's coverage of the La Liga clash between Mallorca and Barcelona. Mallorca have a good home record in recent years, and this is far from a formality for Barcelona, who will have to be at their best to take home the three points. Should be a good one.
