R. Sterling 4'
D. Sturridge 29', 105'+
J. Henderson 109'
Y. Arquin 62'
A. Coombes 84'
I've been Tom J Doyle, and thanks for joining me. Stick with Goal for more reaction to this game and all the rest from the Capital One Cup tonight - and you can also find out whether Arsenal progressed in the Champions League. Bye for now.
Daniel Sturridge showed his class tonight, but County keeper Bartosz Bialkowski will certainly feel he could have done more tonight. However, it's back to League One for the Magpies, and Liverpool have Manchester United up ahead on Sunday, albeit with three injuries tonight.
That's it! What a cup tie. Liverpool progress, but not in the manner anybody would have expected. It took two goals in extra time to overcome a resurgent Notts County side, who gave a brilliant account of themselves in the second half after a poor opening 45 minutes.
Liverpool fans start to cautiously sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' now - after all, it finally looks like they'll be winning this one.
Notts County may be heading out of the competition tonight, but this has been a superb cup tie - the visitors can take comfort in outplaying Liverpool for much of the second half, and should be able to climb League One from here.
Arquin almost gets a third for the Magpies! Good work from the forward to force a smart stop from Mignolet at an acute angle, and it's a corner to the visitors...
Goal Jordan Henderson
HENDERSON MAKES IT FOUR!!! That's surely it as the Englishman scores a superb goal, taking the ball from Sturridge from 45 yards before cheekily nutmegging a County defender and driving through to finish confidently past Bialkowski from 16 yards. A wonderful effort from the midfielder.
What have County got left in the tank? They've got 15 minutes to find yet another equaliser. Any more heroes left?
105' + 4'
Goal Daniel Sturridge
STURRIDGE MAKES IT THREE!!! Oh dear Bartosz Bialkowski - the goalkeeper's had another nightmare as he somehow lets Sturridge's shot from the left squeeze past him and roll agonisingly into the net. Coutinho played the ball through, unsurprisingly. Heartbreak for the visitors.
105' + 3'
Massive shouts for a Notts County penalty here - the fans and players are furious...
105' + 2'
Four minutes of injury time in extra time here after Toure's injury - can you ever remember so much injury time in a 15-minute half?
105' + 1'
Yellow Card Raheem Sterling
105' + 1'
Arquin shows some quick feet but his low cross from inside the box is cleared by Wisdom. They really feel there's a winner for them now.
Sterling is playing at right-back now, and it shows as he gets a deserved yellow for a hack here. It's all coming apart at the seams for the hosts...
Stevens swings a ball into the Liverpool box from the left but Mignolet collects - County mus feel an upset is on the cards now with Liverpool's defence being rejigged.
Oh dear, Toure needs a stretcher now - let's hope it's not too serious for the veteran defender. What it does mean is that regardless of the result tonight, Roders could have a massive problem in the coming weeks in defence.
Yellow Card Andre Wisdom
Don't try and tell Gerrard or McGregor the Capital One Cup doesn't matter - they both absolutely fly into a challenge here, and it's clean from both players. Great to see.
Coutinho has a great chance to put Liverpool back in front as he shapes up to finish from the left of the area, but his low right-foot finish is rather tame and Bialkowski easily holds.
Coombes almost gets a second! A free kick is pumped into Liverpool's area and they again fail to deal with it, as Mignolet has to get out quickly to deny the sub a dream goal.
Kiwomya is shouting like a man possessed on the touchline, while Rodgers is quietly seething - it would be quite a scalp for the Magpies boss.
We're underway again, and Liverpool look fairly annoyed. Johnson wins a free kick out on the left wing...
Wisdom needlessly gives away a free kick on the byline - Arquin is almost there to head the ball in, but the ball is cleared. The referee stops play as Toure has a real problem on the line here, and may have to go off injured.
The ball is a good one but Toure can't get his head to it and Johnson wastes the resulting chance. What has happened to Liverpool - did Rodgers let them have a celebratory roast dinner at half-time?
90' + 7'
This could be the perfect tonic to kick-start County's season though. They're languishing on one point after four games in League One, but the way they played in the second half, they're a match for the best of them.
90' + 6'
That's it! Against all the odds, Notts County have forced an extra 30 minutes of extra time. Can they do the unthinkable and beat Liverpool after the hosts led 2-0 at half-time? The Reds really, really didn't need this before David Moyes' side visit on Sunday.
90' + 4'
Gerrard to win it...no, the captain hits a trademark piledriver from distance wide of the mark. Seconds left...
90' + 3'
What is Sterling doing?! Johnson does brillaintly to set him up from the left, but the youngster slices his shot wide from 16 yards with time and space. What a waste - a real rush of blood to the head.
90' + 2'
Sturridge has a chance to win it here, but he tries the spectacular and fails miserably as his chip over Bialkowski goes well over with the keeper advancing.
Four minutes of injury time - is there enough left for a dramatic finish? County fans are shouting 'Attack, attack' - who'd have thought it?
I suggested at half time that an early goal for Notts County could make things interesting, but nobody could have seriously predicted this. What a treat for the away fans, and what a headache for Brendan Rodgers - he will have wanted a calm second 45 minutes with Manchester United up ahead on Sunday, and he definitely hasn't gotten that...
Agger almost scores! The Dane hits a rocket from 25 yards but Smith superbly blocks it just wide for a corner.
Goal A. Coombes
IT'S 2-2!!! Wow. Just wow. 22-year-old Adam Coombes has made himself the hero by calmly netting the equaliser in front of 3,000 County fans. Arquin breaks the offisde trap and is in on the right, but elects to pass rather than shoot - luckily, the former Chelsea youngster is all alone at the back post to stroke the ball home from eight yards. Bedlam.
Gerrard and Sturridge are still exchanging neat passes but County are blocking them out now - we always end up saying the same thing, but if only the League One side had had this much belief in the first 45 minutes, things could be so different right now.
Young sub Curtis Thompson is free on the right of the Liverpool box and has a chance, but his thrashed effort is blocked - can he make himself a hero tonight for the visitors?
Almost curtains for County as Bell plays a square ball across his area, but Sterling can't make the most of the interception and Bialkowski collects.
The game is a little flat now - presumably Brendan Rodgers wants his players to stem the enthusiasm of the Magpies a tad. Then again, putting on Coutinho suggests he wants to publish them for their insolence like the Empire's Death Star blowing up Alderaan in Star Wars. Still - football, eh?
Yellow Card Yoann Arquin
We've entering the closing stages of the game, and Chris Kiwomya's men have given a superb account of themselves in this second half. Can they find anything in reserve now? We've seen stranger things...
Debutant Luis Alberto goes off to a warm reception and is replaced by the buoyant Brazilian Philippe Coutinho - that could spell the end of County's comeback, as the youngster is simply top class. Watch this space.
TOURE HITS THE POST!!! Oh no Kolo, how have you missed that?!? The centre-back was all alone six yards out and meets Gerrard's lovely curved cross from the right, but can only side-foot it against Bialkowski's left-hand post with the goal gaping. Will yet another miss prove costly for the hosts?
Sturridge beautifully twists and turns away in the County area here and wins a corner...
The ball is in the Notts County net but the whistle went way, way before. Gerrard found Johnson with a glorious ball, and he is tackled before Ibe rolls the ball in - but the visitors had already given up as Johnson was offisde. The Kop still cheered - is a whistle really that confusing for fans?!?
Goal Yoann Arquin
ARQUIN SCORES!!! It's been coming, it has to be said. County win a free kick, and Emmanuele Smith meets the cross-field ball with what is effectively a header-cum-cross for Arquin in the centre. The big forward absolutely powers a header past Mignolet, and it's game on!
I told you about Johnson cutting in from the left - he twists and turns here on the wing before getting away a low effort that Bialkowski holds on to.
Mignolet saves from McGregor! The midfielder gets a nod-down from Arquin and his County counterpart takes the ball down before striking a deflected effort at goal. This is turning into a real game.
Another corrner! The visiting fans are loving this as Labadie gets a header in on goal - it ends up going well wide, but the County fans are in fine voice.
Corner to Notts County! Celtic loanee Callum McGregor does well to force Andre Wisdom into giving away a corner - can they get a goal?
Sturridge turns in the box after a neat pass from Alberto and goes down - the forward wants a penalty but the referee says no - it would've been a soft decision as Sturridge was looking for the decision.
There is definitely more about the visitors now, but they're beginning to leave gaps for the likes of Gerrard to exploit - and he'll relish that space.
Campbell-Ryce gets a deserved booking for clumsily taking down Sterling from behind - it's been a relatively clean match, but there was no escaping a card for that one.
Yellow Card Jamal Campbell-Ryce
County are giving it more of a go in this half, but they're lacking in quality in the final third. Still, their fans will be pleased to see some more fight about them.
Arquin takes the ball down wonderfully in the air and has the Liverpool defence on the run, but he has little support - by the time he can get a pass away, the hosts regroup and force County back to their own half. It's easy to say it, but the visitors really need to support their lone striker with more courage.
Arquin really should be in on goal here, but the pass is a panicked one and the ball rolls beyond him after a good run offer the shoulder of Agger. He'll need better service to make an impact tonight.
We're off again, and County need at least two goals to force the issue - can they offer any more than they did in the first half? They'll have to, to be honest.
Say what you want about the opposition, but you can only beat the players in front of you - and Liverpool's attack looks very very good tonight. Sturridge, Sterling and Gerrard are linking beautifully, Ibe is promising, and Allen is tenacious. Oh, and Johnson is having the time of his life on the left wing.
STAT ATTACK (via @OptaJoe): 9 - Daniel Sturridge has bagged nine goals in his last eight appearances in all competitions for Liverpool. Streak.
That's half-time, and Liverpool are truly, madly, deeply in control. Notts County seem lost, and it's now simply a question of whether Brendan Rodgers will want to rest some of his stars on Sunday or go for more goals here. Still, an early goal for the away side could make it more interesting, so there's still hope for Chris Kiwomya's men.
One minute of injury time now...
Arquin didn't need a stretcher but Liverpool's kit man Graham Carter almost does as he takes a tumble on the sidelines here before skipping off down the tunnel. There's a joke in there about edge-of-the-seat action, but I won't make it...
This is not what County need - Arquin is injured after an aerial challenge. He's back on his feet and should continue, but the League One side don't need injuries on top of a probably defeat tonight.
Sturridge is dribbling at goal with menace and it takes three or four County defenders to show him wide and eventually win the ball back - but make no mistake, he has them running scared.
OFF THE POST AGAIN!!! It's Gerrard's turn this time to taste the woodwork as Sturridge finds Sterling in the box - the youngster holds off until his captain overlaps on the left, and he smashes a shot back off the near post. He could have pulled the ball back, but it was worth an effort nonetheless.
Now then, should Liverpool have had a penalty? Ibe drives into the area and Gary Liddle clumsily barges him over with no intent to play the ball, but the referee waves play-on. An odd call to say the least.
Notts County makes a rare foray forward and Agger has to get a good header on a cross to prevent Yoann Arquin from getting a chance to snatch a reply for the visitors.
Allen drives in a low effort at Bialkowski's goal from 25 yards, but it's too central and the keeper gets everything behind it. It's nice to see him showing more attacking intent though - he'll need to this season.
What a save from Bialkowski! Agger has another great header at goal from a corner, and the County keeper gets a strong arm up to his left to prevent a certain third. He'll be happy with that after letting in the soft opener.
Even Kolo Toure wants in on the action as the Anfield crowd urge him to shoot from distance, but his potential rocket is blocked. When Kolo Toure is being urged to shoot against your side from distance, you may be in for a tough night.
Gerrard swings in a teasing corner and a desperate County head gets the ball clear, but Liverpool are not relenting. This could get very messy for the League One side if the hosts fancy a bit of fun.
Goal Daniel Sturridge
STURRIDGE MAKES IT TWO!!! This is a top-class goal from Liverpool - Allen nips a quick ball into Gerrard, who has the freedom of Anfield to pick a beautiful ball through to the striker in the box. The England forward takes a touch and smashes it past a helpless Bialkowski 12 yards out on the left of the box - a lovely finish.
Sterling wants another as he intercepts a poor cross-field ball 40 yards out, and quick as a flash he's away before powering a rising shot over the County bar. It was never troubling the keeper, but Rodgers will be happy with the young winger's enthusiasm.
The Magpies are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment, but that won't stop their fans from enjoying themselves tonight. They're cheering every pass as if they're cruising to victory as their defence play a bit of rare keep-ball. That's what football's all about.
Ooh, Sturridge should really score here. Allen almost definitely handles the ball before seemingly going through the whole County defence to tee up the England striker, but with time and space he can only curl an effort wide from the right of the area. A waste by a a man of his talents.
OFF THE POST! Liverpool go so close to a second as Gerrard whips in a trademark free kick from the right wing, and substitute Agger glances a powerful header off of Bialkowski's right-hand post. County survive for now.
The hosts are almost toying with the visitors at the moment - Ibe gets into a great position to cross, but he dallies and the chance goes begging.
Liverpool youngster Jordan Ibe looks nifty on the ball - he drifts across the pitch from the right to inside the penalty area on the left and looks for Sterling through the middle, but his cute chipped pass is cut out.
Gerrard is hungry to open his account this season by the looks of things as he lashes another effort over from distance. Not a good sign for the away side.
Glen Johnson has swapped to left-back now and he gets down the wing with ease to put in a cross, but can't find a team-mate - County had better watch out for him cutting in on his right foot.
Poor Aly Cissokho - he's tweaked his ankle here and he'll have to go off less than 10 minutes into his first start at Anfie;d. He looks devastated as he limps off, but the sight of Daniel Agger replacing him will be a good tonic for Reds fans.
BOOM! Labadie thunders an effort at goal from 30 yards which is too hot for Simon Mignolet to keep hold of, but the rebound is put wildly over much to the Liverpool 'keeper's relief. A great start here.
But Steven Gerrard swings it narrowly over. Now it's County's turn from a set-piece as Luis Alberto takes out Labadie...
Liverpool win a free-kick 30 yards out now...
It was a fantastic dribble by Sterling, but Bialkowski won't be happy when he sees that again - it was a forceful shot from the Liverpool forward, but the keeper could only palm the ball into the side of his net when stronger hands would've pushed it clear. Not a great start by any means.
Goal Raheem Sterling
GOAL!!! Raheem Sterling scores an absolute cracker here to celebrate his England call-up today. The young winger picks up the ball from 40 yards and drives at goal - Sturridge pulls defenders away and Sterling rides a challenge with ease before blasting past Bialkowski from 18 yards.
Joss Labadie intercepts in midfield and gallops down the right wing, but he's got nowhere to go and the ball runs out for a goal kick. Promising though.
And we're underway! Liverpool are already zipping the ball around confidently at the back. Notts County will have to do a lot of running tonight.
Magpies goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski is seemingly praying in the goal-mouth before kick-off - he'll need everybody on his side to get a result tonight.
The teams are out, Anfield is predictably electric with 'You'll Never Walk Alone' ringing out, and we're about ready to go...
With Liverpool seemingly in a groove already, it's a big night for Joe Allen, who will have to work hard to establish himself back into a strong midfield. Elsewhere, Alberto makes his debut for the home side, with Aly Cissokho making his full debut - he's an absolute beast down the left.
It's not looking pretty for Notts County in the eyes of Goal readers - just 4.2 per cent have backed the League One side to progress tonight, compared with 95.4% plumping for the hosts. Over to you, Chris Kiwomya.
As if talent wasn't enough, Liverpool also seemingly have history on their side, with an unrivalled record of bagging the trophy eight times.
So after a disappointing start to the campaign with just one point from four games, the Magpies will have to overcome a formidable Liverpool XI if they are to progress to the next round. Expect Daniel Sturridge in particular to relish the chance to keep up his impressive form with a few goals tonight.
Notts County subs: Speiss, Thompson, Tempest, Boucaud, Coombes, Murray, Nangel.
Liverpool subs: Jones, Agger, Coutinho, Henderson, Lucas, Aspas, Borini.
Notts County XI: Bialkowski; Dumbuya, Liddle, Smith, Stevens; Bell, Labadie, Campbell-Ryce, Fotheringham, McGregor, Arquin.
Liverpool XI: Mignolet; Johnson, Toure, Wisdom, Cissokho; Alberto, Gerrard, Allen; Sterling, Ibe, Sturridge.
Brendan Rodgers' side have had a perfect start to the season - they've kept hold of Luis Suarez and have won both their opening fixtures 1-0 - but can their League One opponents cause a massive upset tonight? Let's look at the team news to find out...
Good evening and welcome to Goal's LIVE commentary of Liverpool vs Notts County in the Capital One Cup second round. I'm Tom J Doyle and I'll be guiding you through all of tonight's action at Anfield.
