Into the final minutes as Italy win a corner. Pirlo takes it short and plays it for Aquilani. It's back with Pirlo who crosses, but Nocerino fails to connect in front of goal.
Villa goes for glory but his effort is wayward and flies past Buffon's goal.
Italy looking to hold onto their narow lead now with just five minutes to go in Bari. Spain are pushing hard for a late leveller.
GOAL! Italy score through Aquilani who shoots after being set up by Pazzini. The ball takes a deflection to beat Valdes on the way in.
Pirlo wins a free-kick on the edge of the box for Italy after pressing Martinez well. Great effort from Pirlo who curls one over the wall, forcing a good stop from Valdes.
Ohhh! Great play by Aquilani on the right, but his final ball for Pazzini in the box is cut out. Spain break and Villa tests Buffon who makes a good save.
Great play by the Italians as Criscito receives from Balotelli. The stopper crosses for Pazzini, but Casillas is there to claim the ball.
A great night's work comes to an end for Montolivo as Nocerino comes on.
Silva finds Llorente with the cross, but the Athletic Bilbao man is all over Criscito and he commits a foul.
Balotelli leaves Busquets for dead with a double dummy, but his curler is over the bar. Great play by the Manchester City man!
Chiellini fouls Llorente and Spain win the free-kick on the edge of the box. Villa wants it as does Alonso, Villa takes it, but it hits the wall. Alonso hits the follow up, but Buffon is there to save.

Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani gets ready to come on for De Rossi as Balotelli is closed down. The Manchester City man is not looking great tonight.

Cazorla finds Villa who crosses in search of Llorente, but it's too long. Spain hold onto the ball and the move ends with Villa firing wide. Italy have lost some of their bite in the second half.
Great save by Buffon who does well to scramble across goal and stop Llorente's lob effort from going in.
Balotelli and Pazzini have come on for Cassano and Rossi.
Ohhh! Pirlo finds Cassano who shoots with his right foot, but Valdes gets down low to make the save for Spain.
Pazzini and Balotelli are warming up and look ready to come on for Italy as Prandelli makes further changes to his team.
Spain attack on the left as Alcantara picks out Silva, but Buffon does well to claim the cross.
Ohhhh! What a great chance for Italy. Rossi plays it back for Cassano who tries to pick out Montolivo in the box, but he is unlucky as the move breaks down.
Maggio gives the ball away to Silva who sees Buffon off his line and tries to lob him, but the ball is well over.
Rossi comes under pressure from Busquets who wins the throw for his Spain side. It's back with Italy though as De Rossi sparks up another move.

Italy get the second half started and there have been several changes to the Spain side.

Ohhhhhhh! Great play by Italy. De Rossi finds Maggio who crosses for Cassano, but his well-placed header is just over the bar. Spain escape!
Iniesta shoots from distance, but his effort is charged down. Llorente wins it back, but his effort is poor.
Brilliant work by Iniesta who dances past the Italians. His cross though is cleared by Criscito on the back post. The game is lively and packed with action.
Ohhh! Rossi plays it back for Pirlo, but Cassano is in the way and Spain can clear the ball. Italy have raised the bar again as they search for another goal.
Ohhh! What a save from Casillas who does brilliantly well to save a diagonal shot from Cassano!

GOAL! Spain are back in the game as Xabi Alonso tucks his penalty past Buffon.
Penaly for Spain! The referee gives the world champions a spot kick following contact between Chiellini and Llorente.
Ohh! It should have been 2-0 to Italy. Rossi slips in behind and finds himself in front of Casillas. But, with just the goalkeeper to beat, the striker fires low with his left, bringing out a good save from the Real Madrid man.
Despite their slow start, Spain are building up confidence as Martinez wins the corner from Chiellini. The ball reaches Albiol who shoots, but his effort is deflected off Maggio.
Good ball from Montolivo in behind the Spain defence, but Cassano is caught offside.
The last time Italy found the net against Spain was in 2004 when a Christian Vieri goal on the hour mark ensured the game ended in a draw. Since then Italy and Spain have both been crowned world champions!
Good play from Rossi up front. The Villarreal ace has show flashes of brilliance up front as he plays the ball back towards Montolivo as Italy keep tempo and movement flowing.
The ball falls to Silva following a Spain corner, but his left-foot effort is no problem for Buffon who makes a comfortable save.
For all the pre-match hyperbole, Spain are looking weak and disappointing. The World Cup 2010 winners appear stuck in reverse and forward progress is non-existent.
Shouts for a penalty as Cassano goes down inside the box following a challenge from Pique. Spain are being subjected to serious pressure here.
Spain are dazed and confused as Torres comes off for Llorente little over 15 minutes into the game.
Ohh! Italy almost double their lead as Criscito picks out Cassano in the box, but the AC Milan man fails to connect with the ball.
GOAL! Italy take the lead through Montolivo with a brilliant strike. Criscito plays the Fiorentina man in and he lobs Casillas to give his side an early lead.
Italy win a corner following some persistent play from Cassano. The ball eventually falls to Ranocchia, but his shot is wide of the mark.
Go-slow start from Spain who are rattled by that post from Criscito following a great move. Vicente Del Bosque's men cannot string a decent pass together.
It's an aggressive start from the hosts in Bari. Cassano is in fine form as Italy start playing some free-flowing football.
Ohhh! Criscito hits the post for Italy. The defender sees the ball played square and fires with his left to beat Casillas, but not the upright.
Cassano is the captain tonight, and he has started well as he partners Villarreal's Rossi up front. Rossi will no doubt be familiar with plenty of these Spain players.
And we are underway in Bari with Italy earning an early free-kick. Pirlo delivers, but Spain are able to clear their lines.
Cassano was recently described as "crazy" by Spain's Iker Casillas, but Prandelli is of a different mindset as he hands the AC Milan forward the captain's armband.
