Kicking was a little nervous in the opening stages but recovered well and made some good saves from crosses into the box.
Marshalled Emenike extremely well and didn't allow the Nigerian any time to turn and shoot on the edge of the box. Continually ushered attacking players into benign areas.
Was given a torrid time in the opening stages by Musa and Emenike but found his feet as the game went on and showed the Nigerians down the wing.
Was impressive in the opening stages as he put in a couple of good blocks, most notably tackling Onazi a few yards out to stop a certain goal.
Was perfectly content to just sit right in front of the back four and provided an excellent screen for the defence. Also tracked midfield runners into the box well.
Displayed a turn of pace and upper body strength that was much needed against the pacey front three of Nigeria. Stopped more than one Nigeria attack with a strong tackle.
Collected the ball plenty of times down the left-hand side but reactions were pretty poor as he allowed defenders to get in far too easily to snatch the ball away from his feet.
Slotted in neatly beside Nekounam and did the leg work for his captain, sticking out legs to block penetrating passes through the middle.
Barely saw the ball in the final third as he was mainly utilised as part of the defensive midfield unit. Did show some pace down the wings a couple of times but not nearly enough.
Was played in a more advanced role just in front of Montazeri, which was effective in halting the runs of Musa and the overlaps of Oshaniwa.
Was by far Iran's biggest threat going forward and forced a brilliant save out of Enyeama in the first half with a glancing header at the front post.
Kept on his toes to deny the bullet header of Ghoochannejhad in the first half and was generally a calming presence between the sticks.
Was bright in the opening 20 minutes as he linked up with Musa and got beyond right-back, Montazeri, on the overlap to get some decent balls into the box.
Had all the time in the world at the back to collect the ball to feet and play the ball out from the back. Did lose the runs of Ghoochannejhad a few times though.
Barely had anything to deal with defensively and didn't make much of a contribution to the match as he was brought off with an ankle injury in the first half.
Showed attacking ambition down the right-hand side but his final ball was woeful as he continually floated the ball out behind the back post.
Saw plenty of the ball during his time on the park but had no joy up against the sturdy Iran defence. No dribble or pass seemed to come off and he was hooked early in the second half.
J. Obi Mikel
Was desperately lackadaisical in possession as he took the tempo of the match to walking pace even when his side were in the ascendancy. Neat on the ball, but incredibly slow to move the play forward.
Took a lot of time to get into the match as he seemed content to sit deep alongside Mikel. Did show more attacking ambition in the first half but passing in and around the box was poor.
Was the only member of the midfield trio who looked to get beyond the attackers and made some bursting runs into the box. Should have scored in the first half but scuffed a shot wide form inside the box.
Changed wings two or three times throughout the match but couldn't get any joy and failed to prosper without any space available to run into.
Hold up play was non-existent as the ball bounced and fumbled away from his feet. Made a few lumbering runs in which he was easily dispossessed and smashed a couple of wild strikes wide of the post.
Was called into action in the first half and slotted in at centre back seamlessly.
Added some much needed tempo and was unlucky with a volley past the post.
Physical presence proved a threat and things may have been different if he was allowed to bully the Iranian defence for more of a extended period.
