That's full time! The Diego Milito show has ended and Inter have run out 5-0 winners over Parma. The away side were truly outclassed and outplayed and Ranieri will be hard pressed to ask for much more from his men. Thank you for joining us tonight on Goal.com!
90' + 1'
Faraoni cuts inside and tries another shot on goal but Mirante is able to get a hand to the ball this time.
Ranieri's renaissance looks to be complete. As usual, the veteran coach has shown once again that he can stabilize a sinking ship and get his players firing on all cylinders as Inter are two extra time minutes away from their biggest win of the season.
The home side nearly nick a sixth but Motta's pass to Pazzini is cut out at the last second by Parma's defence.
Zanetti's cross is deflected out for a corner as Inter refuse to cease playing. The side do take their time in getting the ball forward and lose possession via Coutinho.
Less than five minutes to go, which Parma are undoubtedly anxious to get through. The side are looking for a consolation goal but Inter simply are not having it at the moment.
Biabiany tries to get past Lucio but again the veteran defender is able to hold his ground. Along with Giovinco, Biabiany has been one of the few on the away side to save face tonight.
This is Inter's first five goal game of the season and brings their tally to a whopping nine in their last two matches.
Giovinco trying to work his magic again but he's unable to get past Lucio's slide tackle.
Giovinco tries his hand at another corner but Pazzini is able to clear it. Inter have dominated this game and Parma have looked truly dreadful. Colomba may have less than 10 minutes left in his managerial career at the club, who will be winless in six barring a miracle here.
WHAT A GOAL! FARAONI!!!! A superb volley from outside of the box hits the underside of the bar and dips into the net! What a way to open his Inter goalscoring account! 5-0 to Inter.
Faraoni on for Milito who goes off to a standing ovation after a superb performance. This has been the Milito of old, the striker that led Jose Mourinho's men to the treble, after two great goals and an assist.
Gobbi gets on the end of a great cross and tries a volley which is hit very well but centrally towards goal and Julio Cesar is able to parry. It falls for Floccari but the striker is stuck on his own feet and is unable to shoot before Inter can clear it!
Ohhhhhh and that was nearly very embarrassing! Zanetti scores an own goal as he tries to clear a dangerous through ball but the offside flag is up! The captain is saved there.
What a chance from Giovinco! The striker tries a solo run and nearly nicks a goal as the ball goes agonizingly wide of the far post. Just after that, Alvarez comes off to applause for Coutinho after a very strong showing- definitely one of his best in the Inter colors.
Milito once again trying to set up Pazzini after intercepting Biabiany's poor pass but the Italian's first touch disappoints him and the chance goes begging.
Pazzini commits a foul to give Parma a free kick as Milito is fuming from Brandao's physical challenge on the Argentine striker.
Giovinco plays the ball in a very dangerous area, deep into the box, that causes Nagatomo to hesitate before lashing it clear. Biabiany was lurking dangerously just behind the fullback.
Musacci on for the disappointing Galloppa as the away side make another change.
Inter casually strolling about the pitch now, carefully picking passes as they go towards Parma's net. Maicon is seeing a lot of the ball as per usual but is losing it fairly often as well.
Parma doing well to press now, but Inter rarely look in any serious kind of trouble and are still able to slide into the away side's box at will, even with their foot off the gas.
Julio Cesar does very well to punch out Pelle's flick across the box. Promising from Parma.
Galloppa gets in a fantastic position on the edge of the box and tries to curl a shot but unleashes an absolute howler that goes nowhere near on target! Parma's awful shooting has cost them today.
Maicon crosses the ball deep for Pazzini, and thanks to a fortunate bounce he nearly gets on the end of it but Mirante is there to collect.
Marrone off for Pereria as Parma put some fresh legs on and likewise try a youngster out with little left to play for at this point.
Inter looking much better now; on the backfoot before the goal, the side have now continued their first half form since Pazzini's goal. Giovinco earns a throw-in on the counter as his pace forces Samuel to slide.
Ranieri using the occasion to test out some youngsters as Poli comes on for Cambiasso. The former Sampdoria player has seen his minutes limited this season due to injury but has looked solid in the few moments he has played.
GOOOOOOAAAL PAZZINI! Milito makes an excellent run into the box and slides the ball through to the Italian international, who lofts it over the onrushing Mirante. 4-0 to Inter and it's all but done and dusted.
The first change of the match occurs with Pelle coming on for Modesto for the visitors- hopefully that'll shake up proceedings and give Parma a much-needed boost.
Giovinco spearheads a charge into the box. and despite rendering Lucio static, fails to unleash a shot on goal as Julio Cesar rushes out to collect the ball.
Perhaps it's no surprise that this match is rather open as the same fixture last year was a seven goal thriller. Inter ran out winners, scoring five of the goals largely thanks to Stankovic's hattrick.
Much better from Parma early in this half but no real chance on goal as Gobbi is caught offside.
Parma making marginal inroads up the pitch as they try to claw their way back into the game. Inter have more players back now however as they're committing fewer players up front.
Maicon tries to slip a pass through to Pazzini but it's well read and blocked. The early minutes here have been a bit slower paced as Inter perhaps seem content with their lead.
Here we are after the break. Parma's two missed headers look well likely to haunt them unless they can somehow turn the tide in this game very very quickly.
That's the half. Milito's double and Motta's rifle have left Inter 3-0 up against Parma in a game that's all but over unless the away side can finally wake up.
Parma look simply outclassed on the night. Poor defending, terrible marking, nearly non-existent pressing as Inter are running the show entirely.
Giovinco tries an immediate response with his shot on goal and it takes a deflection to earn his side a corner. The away side manage to keep the ball but cannot break down Inter's defence before Marrone fires his shot wide.
MILITO GETS HIS SECOND! Maicon whips an absolute peach of a ball into the box that Milito heads right into the net! And Parma should be taking notes on how to score headers from that! Once again, there was no one to be found marking the forward and Inter are now 3-0 up before the half.
Biabiany makes a fool of Nagatomo and lifts a great cross in towards Modesto, who fires his header wide from mere yards out! Another terrible header wasted from the away side.
Parma now have a succession of throw-ins that allows them sustained possession. Motta races back to intercept Biabiany's play perfectly, but the away side soon win it back. Galloppa tries to cross the ball wide but Samuel chests it back to Julio Cesar.
A last gasp challenge from Paletta once again prevents Nagatomo from squirming his way into the box.
Inter are so dominant that even Samuel has left the backline to join the attack up front! It's well and truly all Inter until Maicon loses the ball foolishly for a throw-in.
Parma are leaving massive holes in the midfield that Inter are exploiting with ease. The home side have all the time in the world to play the ball exactly where they want it, in most situations. Very dire stuff from the away side.
It's nearly end to end now as Lucio is forced into a headed clearance to prevent Gobbi's cross from getting into the box. The defender clears the ball again seconds later before Inter are finally able to counter.
Inter have a corner which Mirante collects easily after Alvarez tries nearly the same exact play he tried from their last corner. The home side get the ball again almost immediately, though Marrone is able to stop Alvarez this time.
Milito playing full of confidence at the moment, as his great run into the box begets another chance on goal which he just volleys over.
Yellow CardDaniele Galloppa
Alvarez and Biabiany battle on the left for possession in an intriguing battle. Shortly after, Galloppa is booked for a poor challenge on Motta in which his foot just took out the midfielder.
Another free kick for Parma in a similar position after Lucio's foul on Giovinco. The player unleashes a shot that nearly sneaks into the far post but a sprawling Julio Cesar is able to parry it out for a corner, which comes to nothing.
Milito cuts into the Parma box from the left and tries a quick exchange with Alvarez, but Paletta once again prevents the play from occurring as he checks the forward's run.
Paletta makes a superb sliding challenge in the box to prevent Miltio and Pazzini's exchange from setting the latter free in the box. Stellar defending there in a very crucial moment.
Parma have improved somewhat in the last few minutes but failed to have a solid chance on target. Inter still look much more threatening every time they have possession.
The free kick is in a fantastic position for the away side, perhaps 30 yards out and just about in the centre of the pitch. Giovinco stands over it and smashes it towards goal but it goes marginally over the crossbar.
Yellow CardWalter Samuel
Alvarez whips in the free kick and finds Motta's head, but the player is unable to get the ball on target. Parma win a free kick just after for a collision in the box involving Motta. From that, Maicon gets the first booking of the game after a technical foul to prevent Lucio from being caught out of position.
Inter are encamped in front of Parma's box, like a cat toying with a mouse. Alvarez goes on another great run that begets his side a free-kick.
What an attempt! Biabiany races into the box and crosses to Giovinco, who's all alone in the box. He gets a head on the ball but heads it wide from a great position! Terrible miss from the short forward.
Some more awful defending on that from Parma who look in shambles without Lucarelli. Not a soul to be found near Motta despite him standing centrally on the edge of the box! This could turn into a rout for Ranieri's men unless the away side quickly right their ship.
MOTTA GOAL!! Inter 2-0 up already as Motta rifles in a belter from outside the box! Milito was at the heart of this one, as his deflected shot fell kindly to Motta just outside the box in a central positions. He smashes his shot without stopping the ball into the back of the net, far too quickly for Mirante to do anything about.
Parma's gameplan is failing to spark so far, as Inter's defence look more than equal to the side's attempt to counter.
Inter counter immediately and Alvarez is once again at the heart of it. He whips in a great cross from the right this time towards Pazzini, whose volley is off-target but promising nevertheless.
Parma earn a free-kick; Giovinco whips it in well and Maicon has to race to clear it. The away side now have the first corner-kick of the match, which is awkwardly cleared by Inter after some initial confusion.
MILITO GOAL! Alvarez and Cambiasso battle to win the ball in the midfield very well. Inter press forward from that and Alvarez is able to whip a cross in towards Milito who just jabs it into the net with the side of his foot. Parma's defence was far, far too slow on that play and Inter are deservedly ahead.
Giovinco tries a lofted through ball over Inter's centre-backs towards Biabiany but Samuel is able to race towards it and clear. The message is nevertheless evident: Parma look to use their frontline's pace to unsettle Inter's aging defence.
Galloppa does well to stop Maicon from getting into his box but then fouls Alvarez almost immediately after to concede a free-kick. Nagatomo battles for the ball on the left and loses possession.
Giovinco just tries to slip a pass through for Marrone but Motta gets his body in the way. The away side seem content to concede most of the possession to Inter and instead look to hit the side with smart passing on the counter.
Floccari gets the ball in the box and tries to turn around Samuel but the veteran centre-back keeps his cool and is able to get between the striker and the ball. Excellent defending.
Great play from Inter involving about half of the side ends in a Maicon cross that Giovinco is able to clear. Ranieri's men are full of confidence and playing some very good football at the moment.
Some scrappy play in the midfield and now Parma have the ball. Former Inter player Biabiany leads the charge but a key pass is cut out by Samuel and Inter surge forward once again.
It's the Ricky Alvarez show in these early minutes, as the trequartista dribbles to the byline with some fancy footwork and wins a corner. Samuel gets on the end of the chance with a header though he fires it right at Mirante. The first true chance of the evening has fallen the homeside's way.
Motta and Alvarez exchange passes beautifully to get the ball to the edge of Parma's box. It falls kindly for Pazzini who tries a looping shot into the top corner but it's off-target.
Kick-off! Parma begin by attacking to the right, and shrug of Lucio's header and Cambiasso's challenge to whip a cross in to Giovinco. Julio Cesar is able to collect the ball before the tricky forward can get to it.
Inter are decked in their usual blue-and-black jerseys, whereas Parma are wearing their yellow and blue striped alternate kit.
We're moments away from kickoff now! The two teams are walking out of the tunnel for the usual pre-match processions.
Both sides have a fair bit of firepower to call on from the bench in multiple areas of the pitch, from Ranocchia and Santacroce to Zarate and Palladino. Inter bench: 12 Castellazzi, 18 Poli, 23 Ranocchia, 28 Zarate, 29 Coutinho, 30 Castaignos, 37 Faraoni Parma bench: 1 Pavarini, 14 Pereira, 22 Palladino, 24 Musacci, 33 Santacroce, 80 Valiani, 99 Pellè
The visitors have had to reshuffle as well due to Alessandro Lucarelli's ban and have kept the likes of Palladino and Santcroce on the bench. 83 Mirante; 5 Zaccardo, 29 Paletta, 13 Brandao, 18 Gobbi; 7 Biabiany, 4 Morrone, 8 Galloppa, 23 Modesto; 10 Giovinco, 11 Floccari
The lineups have been announced. The winter break has not been too kind to Inter who still have numerous injuries to deal with, including the exclusion of Wesley Sneijder, Diego Forlan, Cristian Chivu, and Emiliano Viviano. Ranieri today has opted for Ricky Alvarez in the trequartista role. 1 Julio Cesar; 13 Maicon, 6 Lucio, 25 Samuel, 55 Nagatomo; 4 Zanetti, 8 Thiago Motta, 19 Cambiasso; 11 Alvarez; 7 Pazzini, 22 Milito
Parma have been quite dreadful away from home this season: in seven matches, the team has recorded five losses, one draw, and a single win. Inter however have been far from a fortress at home, only winning 50% of the time. Recent form would have to side with Ranieri's men nevertheless.
Franco Colomba's men, conversely, have had four successive draws, two of which ended without a goal and two of which featured three for each side. Before the break, they proved the could score in their 3-3 draw at home to Catania- but can they score away for the first time since the 2-1 loss to Novara at the end of November?
Welcome to Goal.com's match coverage of Inter-Parma! Matchday 17 finally sees the end of the winter break in Italy, and today we have the fifth placed home side squaring off against the 13th places visitors. Claudio Ranieri's men will look to continue their revival with a fifth successive win.
