2 minutes of added time, Inter fans have gone for a late aperitvo or a beer to drown their sorrows. If you're ready for more football early tomorrow you can catch me commentating Novara versus Catania from 12.30 CET live on various English TV networks around the world. Commiserations for Inter, expect a full enquiry into the referees decisions in the papers tomorrow. Walter Mazzari and his side win 3-0 in the San Siro after beating Milan 3-1 at the San Paolo. Title contenders? I wouldn't bet against it. Thanks for joining me Owen Neilson. Brap.

Processional feel to the end of the game but that 0-3 scoreline is a hive of activity. A little sad it's coming to an end, certainly one of the better games I've watched this season. Napoli weren't spectacular, but showed enough quality when they needed to to profit from Inter's weakness.

Commentators talking about how Zarate hasn't touched the ball since he came on. I wonder how many games you could get away with that, just trotting about and picking up your paycheck at the end of the week. Score an occasional goal just to keep the heretics get the idea. Ooo Zarate's first touch, a shot from the left that goes for a goalkick.
  • 84'
Inter fans in the stadium are clearly devastated by this result. Talk of it being a new beginning, yada yada yada, and they looked so good for forty minutes until the abysmal decision's' by Gianluca Rocchi, and they've never recovered. Next week is the real start, never fear Interista!
  • 80'
Maggio and Stankovic going head to head for a 'pleasant' introduction, Inler parts the angry young men and the Napoli fans are Ole-ing every pass. And why not.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionEzequiel Lavezzi Cristian Gabriel Chávez

And Fabio Cannavaro is smiling like a Cheshire cat, or a Napoli on animals that begin with N that smile, newt? In fairness he looks better than a newt, might have had his teeth whitened in fact. Not sure newts have teeth per se. Enough of amphibians, Lavezzi goes off, Mazzarri is wishing he could be 50 every week.
  • 75'
    Assist Ezequiel Lavezzi
  • 75'
    Goal Marek Hamsik
  • 75'
Hamsik!!!! 0-3 and it's a rout. Inter are being dismembered, dismantled, torn apart by Napoli and it's too easy. Ranieri looks lost. Maicon plays Hamsik on side and he has all the time in the world to slot past Cesar. Catastrophe Inter. Jubilation for Napoli.
  • 74'
Italian football's capital I should add before those from Barcelona/Madrid/Manchester start flinging darts. Inter are trying to force their way back into the game, long balls, short balls, but as Brian Clough once said, it's about the right ball. And so far we haven't seen that. I've got a sneak feeling another goal is coming....
  • 73'
    Yellow Card Giuseppe Mascara
  • 72'
Sorry for all you Napoli fans, the updates have been very Inter focused. Props to the southerners. Chaos all around but they've gone about their business with aplomb. 219 minutes without a goal and they turn up in football's capital and are well in charge.
  • 70'
Haven't been massively impressed with Forlan since he arrived, obviously needs time to bed in, but his claims of wanting to win the Champions League midweek look unlikely after this start to the season.
  • 69'
Maicon takes a mouthful of turf in a fairly pathetic effort to win a penalty as the ball comes in from a corner. Zarate comes on for Forlan, scored a peach against CSKA to win it on Tuesday. Inter need a goal soon.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionDiego Forlán Mauro Zárate

Zuniga!! How in all that is holy has he missed that! Hamsik slides the ball across the six-yard box, all he has to do is touch it in, but blasts it over. To borrow a Geoffrey Boycott phrase which I'm prone to do, my 94 year old nan could have scored that.
  • 64'
Giuseppe Baresi, the Inter legend, brother of Milan hero Franco is working the touchline for the home side now. Former head of the youth side from 2001-2008. Can't imagine him losing his cool like that.

Just to give you a little realia, I can hear people in the building next to mine in Milan, and they're clearly Rossoneri fans because I keep hear joyous screaming after each goal. You've got to love a city rivalry.
  • 58'
Sweet child o' mine. This game has been a brilliant advert for Serie-A. It's hard to see a way back for Inter who certainly lost their cool at the end of the first half, but who knows how this one will end. 2-4, 4-2...
  • 57'
De Sanctis punches from an Inter free-kick but there was an earlier offside. Ages to go but you have to feel the gap is stretching between Inter and the rest if it stays the same. Lavezzi breaks down the left and fires over when there was more promised.BUT...BUT....Maggio!!!! 0-2 Napoli. Where did that come from? More embarrassment for Inter. Nagatomo tries to shield the ball for Cesar who gets caught in no-mans land and Maggio dinks it over the Brazilian. Shocker!
  • 56'
    Assist Giuseppe Mascara
  • 56'
    Goal Christian Maggio
  • 53'
Despite having an extra man Napoli are happy to sit back and play counterattacking football, which we know they're good at. The Tinkerman looks a tad calmer in the stands a full 40 metres from the action.
  • 52'
Alvarez latches onto a Pazzini cross, worked in from the tightest angle by the former Sampdoria striker but can't get a touch as De Sanctis claims.
  • 51'
    SubstitutionGoran Pandev Giuseppe Mascara
  • 51'
Campagnaro almost making a mistake with Pazzini allowing the ball to bounce across the six-yard box. Mascara comes on, and Pandev the builder takes a seat.
  • 49'
Space for Hamsik on the right and it goes for a corner. Nagatomo on for Chivu if you didn't see that in the maelstrom that engulfed my fingers in the closing moments of the first period. The corner comes to nothing as Inter come again.
  • 48'
Don't think the second half can live up to that. Cesar and Zanetti both on yellow cards. Inter need to score as Forlan drops deeper with Pazzini ploughing a solitary furrow up the field.
  • 45'
More action and re-action in that first half than Alien vs Predator, not sure which one is Ranieri as he starts the second half from the stands. Off again at the San Siro. Mazzarri must be loving his 50th birthday.
  • 45' + 1'
    Yellow Card Julio César
  • 45' + 1'
Lucio with a crucial tackle on the edge of the area as space opens up for Napoli. Maggio, who was brought down for the penalty can't get his head on the cross. As the ball goes out, Cesar goes absolutely ballistic at the referee, standing in front of him screaming, poking the official and he is more than lucky not to get sent off. He gets a yellow then gives him another five mouthfuls and somehow stays on the pitch. Even Ranieri is getting in on it!! Red in the face as they go down the tunnel. Wowzers, what a half!! I need a grape.
  • 45'
    Yellow Card Javier Zanetti
  • 45'
Campagnaro was already in the box when Hamsik took the penalty, so it should've been retaken. Obi shouldn't have been booked in the first place and his challenge was outside the box. Inter are feeling seriously hard done by. Zanetti gets a yellow for descent, maybe the ref isn't scared of him.

  • 43'
Hamsik to take....OoooOoooOooo GOAL!! Marek Hamsik...misses!!! Saved by Cesar, but... and it's a big BUT, Campagnaro like lightning gets to the rebound and makes it 1-0 to Napoli. So many talking points over that first goal.
  • 41'
    Yellow/Red J. Obi
  • 41'
Obi must be gutted. His first yellow wasn't a card, and the foul for the penalty was outside the box.
  • 41'
Chivu taking a heavy breather in defence after Napoli took control of possession in midfield.Maggio goes down, Obi, already booked, gets a second yellow!!! Drama at the San Siro. Penalty to Napoli.
  • 38'
Maicon getting to the line and crossing but again Pazzini can't get a touch on it, meanwhile Chivu's back doing what he does past, scything attackers down. Puts a notch on his bat, ala Gangs of New York for a challenge on Lavezzi. Pandev goes through from a quick free-kick and those that used to cheer him, jeer. The comforting fickle nature of football fans.
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Cristian Chivu
  • 35'
Ooo Cynical from Zanetti but the ref says no foul!! Not sure if Rocchi is afraid of the Argentinean's ridiculous thighs or freakish powers of youth, but it looked a free-kick and a yellow card.
  • 32'
Apols to Aquilani, he obviously hasn't made much of an impression on me as I took away his early goal against Napoli. Milan 1-3 Napoli.
  • 30'
It's difficult to know how there hasn't been a goal yet. Pazzini almost getting on the end of a ball whipped in and shows his frustration afterward. Remember Milan lost 3-0 in the San Paolo, so it would really boost Inter's confidence if they can win tonight.
  • 28'
    Yellow Card Camilo Zúñiga
  • 28'
Zanetti showing all his 759 caps experience bringing the ball out of defence and gets Zuniga a yellow-card. Top class from the captain.
  • 27'
Almost too much to say. Inter were 6 on 5 on the edge of the box, Chivu even having a holiday up the pitch. There were almost too many options and it was crossed to the Romanian who attempted something far beyond his skill level, a leaping-sideways volley type attempt. You're not Johan Cruyff Cristian, know your place, left-back.
  • 24'
Forlan put through after Napoli lose possession needlessly in midfield, but the Uruguayan goes wide. Seconds later the ball is in the net!!! But the referee, Gianluca Rocchi chalks it off. The offside flag was up, and on replay it looks about, just about fair.
  • 22'
30 yard free-kick for Napoli blasted over by Inler, at the other end Pazzini is crowded out by Aronica and Campagnaro.
  • 20'
Half-chance for Zuniga at the back post, Maicon and Lucio both decide heading isn't for them but the Colombian can't direct his header goalward. Maicon does better moments later as Campagnaro gives away a free-kick.
  • 17'
Inter certainly looking the most dangerous side in that opening period in stark contrast to the lifeless performance against Novara when Gasperini got the boot. The Tinkerman has brought Zen, for now.
  • 15'
Lavezzi thinks he beat the offside trap as we get an eyeful of Fabio Cannavaro looking extremely dapper and Wesley Sneijder looking his usual self. The tempo has dropped slightly as the players get their breath back, it really was end to end stuff....just as I say that, Pazzini gets onto Maicon's cross and loops a volley over the bar.
  • 13'
Maicon looking to put Pazzini through but well cut out by Cannavaro then...Chance!!! Diego Forlan blasting one from outside the box, De Sanctis rooted to the spot as it narrowly goes wide.
  • 10'
    Yellow Card J. Obi
  • 9'
How much are Napoli going to miss Cavani tonight, we will see. After commentating the Chievo - Napoli midweek game potentially a lot, and this time they can't bring him on with 30 minutes to go. Forlan gets on the bloopers reel for a fresh air volley from the edge of the box then Obi gets booked for a tackle on Lavezzi. Poor decision.
  • 6'
Inter look like they really mean business, going after that first home win like Gattuso after a Scottish pensioner.
  • 6'
Both sides playing in their home colours, not confusing exactly, but if you struggle with different shades... Inter win a throw-on deep in the Napoli half as Aronica clears. Lucio strides forward like he owns the ball and Inter are compressing the play into the final third.
  • 4'
Goran Pandev leads the line for the Nerazzurri, the most workman life of all strikers. He looks a lot like a builder down my road. Maicon involved again as Inter carve open Napoli but the Brazilian can't get the shot off inside the box. Bright start.
  • 2'
Maicon has his first foray down the right but dithers on the ball, that's not the Douglas Maicon we know and love, runs straight into Zuniga and Napoli attack quickly at the other end winning a corner.
  • 1'
Ready, steady....GO! And we're off at the San Siro, no Wesley Sneijder tonight as well, but all the absentees shouldn't detract from the quality.
  • Happy Birthdays to Walter Mazzarri who turns 50 today, the Tinkerman, Claudio Ranieri 60 plus but rubber faced as ever.
  • Douglas Maicon returns!! I still haven't shaken those memories of Gareth Bale destroying the Brazilian right back last season. Giampaolo Pazzini also gets the nod despite picking up a knock against CSKA Moscow.
  • Oh and perhaps most important from a Napoli point-of-view, no Edison Cavani shock!! The Uruguayan limped off in the midweek win over Villareal, Miguel Britos and Blerim Dzemaili also miss out.
  • Some early stats for you to get your chops round. Inter are unbeaten in their last 14 appearances at the San Siro. That was a 1-0 loss to city rivals Milan back in November 2010, but are yet to win at home, though granted they've only played once.
  • Roll up Roll up! Interisti and Partenopei it's another mouth watering clash coming to you live from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, for Inter Milan against Napoli. Potentially a firecracker of a game tonight with me your resident keyboard tapper Owen Neilson, fresh from commentating Bari - Livorno for the English speaking world. Novara - Catania awaits tomorrow, but before we get ahead of ourselves...
