Inter will look to follow up their Wednesday night victory over Chievo by securing their first home win of the season. Following their shock defeat to Siena, Andrea Stramaccioni altered his team’s formation, opting to field a three-man central defence en route to a 2-0 victory. Buoyed by this success, he will now deploy it against a more accomplished outfit.
Stramaccioni is unlikely to rotate his team and although the absence of Wesley Sneijder will undoubtedly be a huge blow, they have Antonio Cassano, who scored as a substitute against the Flying Donkeys, to partner Diego Milito upfront.
McDonald Mariga, Dejan Stankovic and Rodrigo Palacio are unavailable due to injury, although Christian Chivu is fit again, having just failed to recover in time for the Nerazzurri’s previous fixture.
After a highly accomplished performance against Juventus, the Viola will look to cause trouble for another of Serie A’s giants. So impressive were Vincenzo Montella’s side against the reigning champions that a draw could be seen as two points lost rather than one gained.
On the back of this performance - and with Alberto Aquilani and Mounir El Hamdaoui still unavailable due to injury - the Italian coach will name an unchanged side as he looks to gain all three points against an Inter team which has been anything but convincing at home.
